A House Republican will circulate a letter among his colleagues on Wednesday asking the New York Times whether a third-party group can take out a full-page advertisement in the paper to run a previously rejected editorial by their presidential candidate, Arizona Sen. John McCain, according to people familiar with the decision.

The letter, drafted by California Rep. Kevin O. McCarthy with the blessing of his leadership, is an attempt to paint the venerable newspaper as a Democratically-aligned media company.

...

House GOP sources suggest a Republican leadership PAC may pay for the ad if no outside group steps forward to do so, although the cost would run into the tens of thousands of dollars.

the incoherent ramblings of a a feeble-minded fool...how much does the NYT want to put the op-ed "AD" up? I'll chip in.

I knew that piece from McCain was no OP-Ed the whole time -- which is why the OP-Ed page rejected the piece.

I knew the first time I read it, it was nothing more than an infomercial, in print, with NO clarification, and NO details of McCain's foreign policy with the MidEast. McCain wanted to have his infomercial printed free of charge -- The NYT said, no, submit and OP-Ed and we'll publish but we're not publishing political infomercials.

It got rejected from the Op Ed page because it was NOT AN OP-ED.

I'm glad the GOP are having to pay to get his distorted talking points published ... as it should be.

Please tell me when it might be published so I can ignore it.

It would be even more funny for the Democrats to pay to print it.

They TOTALLY should..although, i like the idea of the GOP wasting their money on that tripe. I also like the fact that nowhere in his op-ed did he define victory in iraq.

yes, America, take a good hard LONG look at mccain and see him for the failure that he has become.

Fine, as long as the Times clearly prints "advertisement" in the margins.

To bad the Times can't use an old trick for dealing with crank letters. Dear Mr. McCain. We thought you should know that some scoundrel is writing unintelligible nonsense and trying to publish it in our letters to the editor column under your name.

If you can't garner public support, buy it, that's the GOP way.

The GOP is having to resort to vanity press?

No. They just have to pay for the same NYT coverage that 0bama gets for free.
It's not that big a deal.

Hey I'll chip in!

I understand jony's op - ed piece wouldn't pass a fifth grade exam. The NYT wanted to save him the embarassment. I say: don't coddle him - let the embarassment begin!

It must be a big deal to them since they are willing to pay. I am sure they can better spend their money to save their own skins.

Did you even READ the op-ed piece?

Or is that what passes as a "think piece" to the people who support McCain?

"Vanity press" is exactly what the ad will be--and what it deserves.

Oh, I certainly hope they do!!! It's so bad, let everyone read it and get bored to tears by it.

Enough of news papers and MSM protecting McGaffe from himself. Let the presses and cameras roll, I say!!!

I read that response.
It was pretty sad, just recycled campaign speech tripe with no substance.

NYT did McSame a favor. He should have cleaned up his statement and resubmitted it.
It would be a smarter move.

Maybe the GOP can also pay some people to be their friends--Oh, I forgot--that's the lobbyists' job.

Was it an Op-ed or an advertizement to begin with? Oh my, oh my...!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:06 AM on 07/23/2008

I think you nailed it.

Certainly it must work as an advertisement, or it would be silly to pay to publish it like MoveOn's add on general Betrayus.

You have to pay to publish propaganda.

Except for 0bama, who gets it published for free.

We need to start a fundraising effort to get the NYT to publish that ad! In light of the Katie Couric clip job on the McSame "surge" blunder, this BS op ed piece would be the icing on the cake!
