Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal said Wednesday he will not run for vice president on the GOP ticket, making him among a growing number of those pulling themselves out of the race.

Jindal's comments come as speculation is swirling that John McCain might announce his running mate choice imminently, as a way to draw attention away from Barack Obama's high-profile overseas trip.

The Louisiana governor told "FOX & Friends" that he'd be "surprised" if the McCain campaign came down with a decision this week. And he threw water on the buzz about his own chances.

I now think it's gonna be Portman. This is a typical GOP choice. They think he safe and could help OH. Jindel was never a serious option please he's not a white male. I still think McBush hates Romney too much and Pawlenty will be too much of a contrast to McBush. Portman is the type of conservative Washington insider the Rethuglicans love.

Give it up! He'll hint at anybody ( I'm waiting for Cheney ) to stay in the news.

Jindal would bring in some amusing discussion of Intelligent Design mixed with Voodoo which would get him into a lot of doo doo.

he's freaky, spooky.

Jindal is the exorcist. His talents are needed desperately elsewhere.

Jindal was never going to take the VP spot. He is way too smart. Jindal is usually the smartest guy in the room, so he knows McCain is largely un-electable and would not give up his newly won governors seat to campaign nor would he taint his career by association with Mr. McCain. I sai it two months ago when talking heads got heavy into the Jindal possibility and stick by it now.

Besides old John would have a tough time attacking a minority candidate if he were on the same tick as a minority. Those Republicans like lily white.

carex: I think you have it exactly right! ANYONE who has enough brain cells to rub together for friction (and isn't totally drunk on the Kool Aid) would run, not walk, from such an association. McCain has a no-win situation, the weight of Bush's legacy will help him plummet to a record low and leave a crater the size of a Red State, where it hits. Who would willingly sling THAT albatross around their neck?!?

Jindal may be a wack-job in many ways, but I caution people not to equate ideological/relgious delusions with stupidity. He seems smart enough to distance himself from the coming fall without appearing to be unsupportive. That shows some basic political savvy.

Regarding Pawlenty...

What is all this lame talk about Minnesota being a 'swing state'?

Trivia Question: What state has the longest current streak of voting Democratic for President?

Answer Minnesota, It hasn't voted for a Republican since Nixon vs McGovern in 1972.

'Swing state'?

Wishful thinking., nothing more. If Mc'Cain picks Pawlenty, I would expect his numbers to go DOWN, not up.

Pawlenty is the safe choice, it wont hurt, but it also will not help. McCain would be better to wait and the move Obama makes. There is no rush. It may seem like Obama is having a good week, but it is way to early to be playing your aces.

"Buddy Buddy" Jindal would top off the campaign ticket nicely... right in line with all the other screw-ups that the mccain camp has made to date!

There are a lot of white bumpkins who won't vote for Senator Obama because his middle name is Hussein. How many of those will vote for somebody who looks like a terrorist?

Is McCain admitting that he needs Pawlenty of help?

While people speculate about possible match ups, how's this one:
Obama/Gore vs McCain/Lieberman ?

Pawlenty would actually be a pretty decent pick for McCain. Not that much can help him, mind you, but overall Pawlenty is better than that medieval fundamentalist freak show Jindal.

He pulled himself out my a$$. More like McCain told him that he wasn't going to be picked. They had a private meeting a couple of days ago, remember?
