"Bachelor" Matt Grant Splits With Fiancee Shayne Lamas

Bachelor Matt Grant and fiancée Shayne Lamas have ended their short and often-rocky relationship, they tell PEOPLE.

"We tried hard to make it work but we realized that we were both heading in different directions," the two said in a statement to PEOPLE. "We truly care about each other and will remain close friends."

Neither would elaborate.

Grant, 27, and Lamas, 22, have been plagued with reports of trouble since their televised engagement on ABC's The Bachelor: London Calling in May.

Aw ... that's too bad 'cause I was really hoping they'd make it. They're well-matched astrologically (he's a Cancer, she's a Scorpio---both water signs) and I really thought this was a good match. My only concern was her brattiness and constant need to be in the spotlight, which I thought might subside. Really, though, I think she's too immature and Matt is more worldly and looking to settle down right now while Shayne still wants to party.

Hopefully, the next break-up will be DeAnna and Jesse --- they are so ill-suited it's not even funny!!!!
I hope Jason (the one DeAnna should've chosen) is selected as the next Bachelor and he & his son find someone worthy and who sincerely wants to build a life with them.

NOBODY on that show is going to find anybody "worthy"...the method of competition that puts all of the power into the hands of a narcissist will see to that.

I am probably alone in thinking that Matt is a woman hater, but each week he seemed to make one woman or another feel that she was the only one in the world for him, get that woman to preening with expectation, and them BOOM...he sent her home first chance he got.

Both of them seemed to be publicity seekers, as do 99.9% of those who come on this show. There has NEVER been a successful match...no big surprise that anybody who has 25 members of the opposite sex competing for his favors turns out to be dissatisfied sooner or later (usually sooner) with the last one to be rejected.
