Hairspray Sequel

Variety:

Get ready for another shot of "Hairspray."

New Line Cinema has made a deal with "Hairspray" creator John Waters to write a treatment for a sequel to summer 2007's hit musical feature.

Planning to return are director-choreographer Adam Shankman, producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron and Tony-winning songwriters Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, who will write new songs for the film.

No cast has been engaged yet, and none of the stars of "Hairspray" had sequel options. But the studio hopes to reunite the original cast in a film that will be ready for release by Warner Bros. in mid-July 2010.

I really enjoyed the movie 'Hairspray'. It''s so nice to see decency and fun. I look forward to the sequel.

I saw a clip of the chubby girl on YouTube and if the potential success of the sequel is based on how much weight she can gain before filming begins then it is sure to be a huge hit.

This is one of my favorite movies! It had me from "Good Morning, Baltimore"! It is one of the great feelgood movies of all time. In fact, the first time I saw it in the theater, I watched an old man with a cane as the closing credits were rolling. He had stopped in the side aisle and hung onto the rail with one hand as he moved himself to the beat and tapped his cane with the other! I will be the first in line to see the sequel! At last, something to look forward to!

YEAH!
I LOVED the most recent "Hairspray" movie! I thought Travolta and Walken were fabulous together. (Did you know that Walken said that he wished Edna had been a real woman because he found "her" incredibly sexy?)
Kudos to John Waters. I think he's great!

Hairspray The Musical was bad enough, but a sequel?!?!?!?!?

has there ever been a good musical sequel??? there were two bad stage sequels to ANNIE, one bad sequel to BYE BYE BIRDIE (Bring back Birdie!), A bad sequal to THE BEST LITTLE WH*REHOUSE etc.

This can't be good.

The only thing that would make me see it? HARVEY FIERSTEIN as EDNA. As the original movie musical should have been cast.

I know this is sacrilege but I HATE Fierstein's Edna. It just becomes slapstick about his persona in a way that neither movie Edna does. For example, "Timeless to Me" was very sweet with Walken and Travolta. (The line "You'll always be du jour, mon amour" seems written for Walken's delivery style!) I have seen the vids on YouTube with various Ednas and Fierstein's has the least amount of sweetness and sincerity.

I saw it the 4th week it opened on Broadway. Harvey was incredible. John Travolta did do a sweet take on the role but that missed a lot oft the humor of John Waters. Edna is sweet but also kinda frightening. When Harvey said "want to get famous figure out how to get blood out of upholstery" - huge laughs. Travolta - none.
Divine was also sweet but scary in a funny way.

Also Travolta's horrible Baltimore accent was so hard to understand. Lots of his lines that should have been funny fell flat because people didn't know what he was saying. I can't believe the producers didn't say anything.

I'm not so sure about that this. I enjoyed the original and the remake but a sequel really isn't needed. Why ruin what I feel was a good remake?
