When Is A Republican In College Not A College Republican? Ask CNN

Los Angeles Times:

The president of the College Republicans at the University of Southern California is charging that CNN used a "fake College Republican" in its broadcast report today, claiming there was a lack of enthusiasm for the GOP candidate, Sen. John McCain.

A CNN spokeswoman now says it was an inadvertent error.

In its Thursday morning report, according to a news release from the student organization, CNN interviewed someone identified as Eric Pearlmutter, who was said to be a USC student and College Republican.

"We try to get people out to our College Republican meetings, but we can't seem to get the same amount of support," he said.

Ben Myers, the president of USC College Republicans, said, "I have never met Eric Pearlmutter. I have never seen him at a College Republican meeting. He is not on our membership roster. I don't know why someone would think he speaks for us. As far as I know, he could be a Democrat."

This sort of thing has been ongoing for some time and a practice not confined to just CNN. For some reason, networks are either easily duped when doing pieces on campus politics or use shills to advance opinion?

Don't know if it is intentional or clever students just havin' some fun? Fortunately, none of it will sway an election one way or the other, at least IMHO.

Stick with me folks, this is complicated. While he is a republican and a college student, he claims to attend and be afilliated with a group that is named "College Republicans". So, when he claims he tries to get people to the meetings but cant, and then turns out that the people who do attend the meetings and keep track of membership know nothing about him, well therein lies the problem.

Just realied the editors have deleted 50 of my posts since i've joined. I suspect this will join the ranks. But before you delete, pass the word along to the folks who draft the headlines. Sounds like they need some help understanding the story.

Ben Myers never heard of him? He's not on the roster? Maybe Ben Myers forgot his name. Maybe he went to the library instead of hanging around to sign the roster. Or maybe he doesn't think it's important to sign a roster. Doesn't prove he's not a Young Republican. After all, who would claim to be one if they weren't. The humiliation would be overwhelming.
