Update: It's been revealed that LaBoeuf's passenger in the accident was Transformers co-star Isabel Lucas, reports Us Weekly:

Actor Shia LaBeouf was at the Troubadour club watching the Lemon Son band on Santa Monica Blvd in L.A. Saturday night, a source tells Usmagazine.com.

"He was dancing around and acting really crazy," the source tells Us. "He kept doing shots of whiskey.

"He stayed until the band was done and then stumbled out of the club by himself," the witness reported.

LaBeouf's Transformers co-star Isabel Lucas, 23, was a passenger in his truck when the accident occurred, a second source tells Us.

Shia LaBoeuf's rep has released a statement:

"Attorneys for Mr. LaBeouf confirm that an automobile accident involving an additional party occurred early morning in Los Angeles on July 27, 2008," said Melissa Kates in the statement issued Sunday evening. "Shia is currently recovering from extensive hand surgery with plans to return to work on the set of Transformers 2 within one month. No further comment will be issued at this time. "

LOS ANGELES — Shia LaBeouf was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving Sunday after an early morning wreck in which the "Indiana Jones" star injured his hand and knee, authorities said.

LaBeouf was trying to make a left turn at a West Hollywood intersection around 3 a.m. when his pickup collided with another vehicle, rolling the truck over, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Sgt. Scott Wolf said.

"It was immediately apparent to officers responding on the scene that LaBeouf was intoxicated and he was subsequently placed under arrest," Wolf said.

Wolf said LaBeouf was booked then released for misdemeanor DUI. The 22-year-old actor was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and was being treated for injuries to his left hand and a knee, as well as a minor head injury, Wolf said.

A woman passenger in LaBeouf's truck and the driver of the other vehicle were not seriously injured. Wolf did not know the identities of the woman or the other driver.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation, Wolf said. Two attorneys listed for LaBeouf did not immediately return calls from The Associated Press on Sunday.

Melissa Kates, a publicist for the actor, said LaBeouf underwent hand surgery and plans to return to work within a month. She declined further comment.

The accident occurred when LaBeouf, who was headed northbound on La Brea Avenue, tried to turn onto Fountain Avenue, Wolf said. The intersection is the location of "High Voltage," the tattoo parlor where the TLC reality show "LA Ink" is filmed.

LaBeouf starred in last year's summer smash hit "Transformers," and this year appears opposite Harrison Ford in "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull."

LaBeouf has had previous brushes with the law, but until now they'd been relatively harmless _ to the degree that they only served to reinforce his image as a Hollywood good guy with an edge.

A drunken confrontation with guards at a Walgreens in Chicago late last year led to misdemeanor criminal trespassing charges. Arresting police in that incident noted that LaBeouf was "very courteous and polite," and the charge was dropped because the drug store didn't want to pursue the matter.

In a lighthearted retelling of the incident to David Letterman on the "Late Show," LaBeouf said: "Drinking and driving is one thing, but drinking and shopping ... it's just as bad."

LaBeouf was separately cited in February for smoking where he shouldn't in Burbank, but a judge later dismissed the charge.

Associated Press writer Shaya Tayefe Mohajer contributed to this story.

This ungrateful little punk is so full of himself he's bloaty. He doesn't deserve one ounce of the success he's had. He doesn't care about the business or himself. He just put a multi-million dollar project on hold for a month because he cannot control himself. When is Hollywood going to stop giving the little idiot a free ride? There are so many actors his age who are better and really, honestly would love to work at his level. Wake up, people. He's a dirtbag. Let him crawl back into the sewer where he belongs.

Sheera Laboofhimself is a terrible actor, a terrible example, and a horrendous pick for any movie. He degrades the quality of anything he is in and should never have been chosen for any blockbusters. Its a waste of good movies.

Will someone PLEASE rescue Shia from himself? He's a smashing young actor and he seems to be half way down the slippery slope.......

He certainly is smashing. Smashing cars in to trees that is.

Strike two for this kid. He's not famous enough to have producers ensure him in spite of his rep. He better make a dramatic and sincere mea culpa (not cutesy like the other one), or his career's over.

The next question to ask is: why would a passenger get into Shia's truck knowing he was drunk?

Oh wait, Hollywood is not about smart people

If you're going to have a drinking problem, that's your business. But please call a cab if you've had too much to drink. This talented young man has enough bank to have called a car service - when will young Hollywood learn and when will Americans become outraged at this type of behavior?

what a waste of talent. I am a fan of Shia, but he should really know better since he's predisposed to substance abuse from his father. I hope he gets the help he needs before he ends up hurting someone and himself tragically. He's way too talented, smart, and charming to go down this road. He better clean his act up soon, fast, and in a hurry, before he loses all his blockbuster roles. I mean he's working with the likes of Bay, Spielberg, et. all.

Does he know how lucky he is to be in the position he's currently in career wise?

He definitely has a great deal of potential, and I'm a fan, but this is a kid who is very. tightly. wound. Does anyone recall the season of Project Greenlight he was in back in '02-'03? As I recall it was a pretty interesting insight into how much pressure this kid (16 at the time) puts on himself -- massive -- and that was just a little independent gig. I can only imagine the level of insecurity a Michael Bay/Transformers and Steven Spielberg/Harrison Ford/Indiana Jones franchise brings out. Throw in a truckload of young male machismo, immaturity and self medication and you're just looking for trouble.

He's always seemed to me like a basically decent kid. I'm very grateful he didn't kill himself or anyone else. I sincerely hope this is a wake-up call and he can get his sh*t together before things escalate any further.

Has anybody noticed that Steven Speilberg is almost always either a producer or director of LaBeouf's film's? Are they related? Speilberg won't be happy that his golden boy is doing stuff like this.

Rumor has it that LaBeouf is Steven Spielberg's love child. I don't know if it is true or not but Mr. LaBeouf has a great career and a great life in font of him if he can get things straightened out.

Good luck, Mr. LaBeouf. I hope you can pull it together...........

Flipped a car ? A daily occurrence with alcohol. How about those drunk British women smashing a vodka bottle over a flight attendant's head and attempting to open the emergency door at 35k feet ? I never read about these type of incidents from stoned people. And yet cannabis is a Class 1 drug ? (most dangerous)

go watch "up in smoke" and tell me again how cannabis ain't dangerous

If you drive drunk, hit someone, roll your car over in the process, maybe just maybe, the government should take your license away.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:41 PM on 07/28/2008

Agreed, aristippe. The liquor lobby is far too powerful and have basically taken the atrocious crime of driving drunk and made the punishment a slap on the wrist. One time pulled over drunk is a lifetime of no license. That's how it should work. Unfortunately, it never will and tons of innocents will be killed by drunks every year. Couldn't Shia afford a taxi?

Sounds great and all until you take into account the fact that, according to some studies, as many as 75% of adults who consume any alcohol at all, have driven legally drunk at least once.

I'm in favor of making sure the punishment fits the crime, too, but when 75% of the people who consume, have driven legally drunk at least once (if not on repeated occasions), maybe it's time to look at social and economic factors as well as just good old "throw the book at them" reactions. Maybe we need to see why our society is so prone to driving drunk -- are we a society of alkies? Is it impossible to get to a tavern by foot?

There are other answers. Putting more people in jail -- most of whom are not repeat offenders, but rather idiots like you and me who thought "I've just had a couple of beers, I'm FINE to drive..." -- isn't really going to solve the problem at its root.

Would the same rules apply if you drive drunk but are lucky enough not to hit somebody? What if, while you're driving drunk, another driver hits YOU and the accident wasn't your fault. Still the same loss of license for you?

It's way more complicated than you understand, isn't it?

What a lame comment. While there are other possibilities (such as the ones you cite) your assumption that it's more complicated than aristippe understands is just your own unfounded (and obnoxious) conclusion. Maybe you've had too much to drink?

And for the record, my opinion is: drink as much as you like. But drive drunk, you should have your license suspended, even possibly go to jail. And, before you jump to yet another unfounded, dumb conclusion, I'm for decriminalization, believe that the War On Drugs is wasteful and stupid, and think that our overall attitudes towards drug-crime is lame.

But when you drive drunk you drive worse. And as such, you threaten your life and mine.

Drunk driving is dangerous in any case. How many people have died because some drunk thought "it's okay, there's nobody's around," and proceeded to kill other people? How about the drunk who kills himself by crashing into a ditch? Selfishness, pure and simple.

"Two attorneys listed for LaBeouf did not immediately return calls"

This 22 year old self-indulgent piss-ant has two attorneys?

The piss ant is richer than god right now with two blockbuster movies within 6 months and another on the way.

Young Hollywood is out of control and very, very drunk. Its sad to watch and sadder to know that these piss ants do have a lot of influence on that generation. A generation with so much promise are pissing it all away.

Its all about alcohol, the most deadly and destructive drug. Easy to get, socially acceptable-deadly. Getting drunk, out of control, arrested, rehab...its all good press.

I have a recently turned 21 year old...I hold my breath for her, and pray that she will do the right thing and rise above what is put in front of her as Icons and role models.

Young Hollywood looses Heith to drugs and alcohol and it doesn't stop a single one of them.

Idiots.
