Jon Voight's Obama Op-Ed: "[He] Falls Short In Every Way"

Jon Voight accused Barack Obama of "sowing socialist seeds in young people" for an op-ed published in the Washington Times on Monday.

Writing on behalf of "we, as parents," Voight blamed the Democrats for waging a propaganda campaign against America's youth and insisted Obama is weak on terror.

Here are some excerpts:

On Obama's ties to "militant white and black people":

Sen. Barack Obama has grown up with the teaching of very angry, militant white and black people: the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Louis Farrakhan, William Ayers and Rev. Michael Pfleger. We cannot say we are not affected by teachers who are militant and angry. We know too well that we become like them, and Mr. Obama will run this country in their mindset.

On Obama's God-like stature:

The Democratic Party, in its quest for power, has managed a propaganda campaign with subliminal messages, creating a God-like figure in a man who falls short in every way. It seems to me that if Mr. Obama wins the presidential election, then Messrs. Farrakhan, Wright, Ayers and Pfleger will gain power for their need to demoralize this country and help create a socialist America.

On 1960s "hysteria":

The Democrats have targeted young people, knowing how easy it is to bring forth whatever is needed to program their minds. I know this process well. I was caught up in the hysteria during the Vietnam era, which was brought about through Marxist propaganda underlying the so-called peace movement. The radicals of that era were successful in giving the communists power to bring forth the killing fields and slaughter 2.5 million people in Cambodia and South Vietnam. Did they stop the war, or did they bring the war to those innocent people? In the end, they turned their backs on all the horror and suffering they helped create and walked away.

On Obama's homeland security credentials:

There's not a cell in my body that can accept the idea that Mr. Obama can keep us safe from the terrorists around the world, and from Iran, which is making great strides toward getting the atomic bomb.

Voight closes by warning Obama plans to usher in a "socialist era":

This is a perilous time, and more than ever, the world needs a united and strong America. If, God forbid, we live to see Mr. Obama president, we will live through a socialist era that America has not seen before, and our country will be weakened in every way.

He may be right with some of his statements (who knows). But why should Americans give two shia's about what some rich actor has to say about who should be president? That's always amazed me about some people who are going to vote for *candidate X* because John Travolta, George Clooney, Tom Cruise, or Bill Maher says that is who should be the next president.

People should take stock of which candidate is better for THEM. Most people dont have Hollywood-type money, and if anything should question how smart these rich democrat actors are. If anything you'd think they would be repub's to protect there holdings....Americans are sheep.

Of course, every policy that does not make the rich people RICHER and the poor people POORER is labled "socialist". In an "ideal" America, as the neocons see it, there would be a couple of super-rich people with trillions of dollars while the poor majority of people would simply die. Yeah, poor Angelina, growing up with that kind of spiritual toxicity. I know what I'm talking about; but at least I didn't have to grow up with my reactionary brother-in-law. I can just not visit. But if it were my Dad, I'd have to meet him halfway half the time.

Voight's stance on Vietnam is classic near-sighted "conservatism." War is always preferred, as a way of interacting with other countries, because the subtleties of respectful and supportive diplomacy escape them. The ideas that one can encourage charity in another BY BEING CHARITABLE, and can encourage another to trust and respect us BY TRUSTING AND RESPECTING THEM, strikes these borderline fascists as sheer nonsense -- despite overwhelming proof from all quarters, that that is exactly how people operate.

Modern conservatives want life to be simple, when it just isn't. That's why they (really!) think that progressives are "elitist" -- it's because so many core progressive sentiments and perceptions are simply over their heads, so they think we're always talking down to them. They litterally think that making life better for one's "enemy" means that that "enemy" will turn and kill us sooner rather than later, while laughing about what chumps we are.

It's school-yard logic, and as long as our country suffers under this sort of "thinking," we'll be unable to engage in real adult interactions with other countries and peoples.
