Richardson Helping Clinton Retire Her Debt

Governor Bill Richardson is set to announce today that he's hosting a pair of fundraising events for Hillary Clinton in New Mexico August 17, which is being cast as one of the higher-profile installments of Obama's effort to help Clinton retire her debt.

Though Richardson seems to be hosting the events in his capacity as an Obama backer, it's also a move which could repair Richardson's own relationship with the Clintons -- some of whose supporters resented his Obama endorsement . It could also soothe Clinton backers concerns that Obama isn't raising enough money for Clinton.

"Stop the general election campaign. We must retire Hillary's primary debt."

. Has either Clinton ever done anything that isn't entirely self-serving?

You don't hear Mitt Romney begging for the VP slot nor crying about the 25 million he is out. He told his supporters, forget about my debt, concentrate on our nominee.

HRC set this situation up. She went into debt by dragging this contest on far beyond what was reasonable. If Obama had lost, his 18 million supporters would have each sent in $10 and he'd be flush. Since HRC was backed by old-school big money, her 18 million sits on their hands and waits for someone else to come to her aide--because her own supporters will not give money to her or to Obama.

Now Ricardson has his heart in the right place, by why does he have to beg people to give money t Sean Penn--I mean HRC? Why would anyone want to support that sort of reckless spending?

Posters who support her in the comments should first tell us whether or not they have send her their 10s and 20s to help pay the debt before asking us to send in ours.

Interesting move on his part, although I'd think it would take a truckload of money raised to mend that fence.

I don't really think mending fences is his purpose.

Hillary: If it pains you so much to spend part of your fortune to pay your bills, why not ask hubby to give a couple of speeches in Columbia (or somewhere else that'll pay big bucks) with the specific intention of using that money to pay campaign debts. That way you can raise big money fast and painlessly.

To me that makes more sense than expecting BHO to take care of it for you.

then she'd have to pay **gasp** income tax on the money,....

One thing for sure. If Bo loses in Nov., I predict these same people will push him again in 2012. Then, we will get an actual splitting of the Dem Party. Hillary may let it go this time, but she won't be screwed over again.

Obama should stay entirely focused on winning the presidency and spend little time raising money for the Clinton's.They spent millions of their own money and now want reimbursed. This was a huge risk and they lost. Do you think Ross Perot was reimbursed after spending 60 million of his funds in a losing cause in the early 90's? The Clinton's can very effectively raise money on their own. How about a new book from ex President Clinton entitled "Why I think Barach Obama will Win?"

Hill has already raised millions for him. O is just not much of a team player.

She is.

What millions?

What Millions are you talking about?
Right now u r just becoming McCain. Just speak because u r used to the words. No sense comes out of them.

Fact: there are 311 Hillraisers. That is people who each raised at least $100K for Hilary.
Fact: of that number only 8 have raised money for Barack and a combined total of $20K.

So where are the millions u r talking abt? How much did u contribute?

Richardson is one of my favorite Democrats. I'm still hoping for him as SOS.

But why is he fundraising for Hillary? I thought the PUMAs said not to worry, that they'd already taken care of it?

Has she raised ANYTHING to pay the vendors? How much does she currently owe (including the $10.5 million to herself)?

He's a personal friend of the Clintons. Why would anyone care if he wants to do a fundraiser for her?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:54 PM on 07/30/2008

Well, #1 because they treated him disgracefully for having his own choice for president (i.e. Obama rather than Hillary).

And, #2, why raise money for her if PUMAs have already paid off her debt?

Do keep up. The Clintons trashed him mercilessly after he endorsed Obama. Now he's raising money for her. This is politics. It's news.

I think Bill Richardson is a good guy and always have. He has a good head and heart. As far as the Clintons and the debt, well what should we pay for when she went on and on long after we all knew she could never win enough delegates. She blew through money and the Penn arse, she chose him and she should pay for him and his losing ways. The last issue I have with toosing money at Hillary is quite clearly she has come up with her own deal here. She wants the money paid towards her debt to go in a 2012 fund or her hilpac instead of toward her debt which is partly to pay herself back. Even Mitt wrote his 44 million plus debt to himself off. Why should the clinton backers be pissed when any rational person who saw it played out knowing the truth about her chances and they must still be deluded to think she might have won in the late stages when she pressed on then they can stay pissed off. Her fault her debt. If they are ok with putting the money in 2012 or the hilpac then why should anyone else pay anything at all?

She was winning state after state and still has not technically lost the race. Remember she won 8 of the 10 most populous states. I don't think a nomineee has ever lost having won those states. Bo won the nomination with the red states helping him. Let's see if he wins them in Nov.

Anyone else think that if Hillary had released her delegates and made a few loud and strong statements to the PUMAs that she would have gotten a lot more help with that debt?

And maybe even conceded? And publicly chastised 25 of her biggest donors who met with McCain's Fiorina a few weeks ago?

Ya think?

PUMAs are what is keeping me from giving her any money or giving her any other kind of support.

When she denounces them and makes it clear they are not working with her support or approval, I'll consider it. Until then, she's the enemy, as much as the neocons are.

Anyone not working to end the carnage and thievery of the Bush administration is my enemy.

Send money to the DNC. It's 10 million short for the convention spectacle planned.

It needs O supporters!

Hurry up. They are having to cancel parties right and left due to budget shortfalls.

I would much prefer to see the Governor raising money for the presumptive nominee, not the has-been who is stiffing small businesses across America. Very disappointing.
