"The View" Fights Over John McCain As Whoopi vs. Elisabeth Heads Into Round II

America's breakfast table heated up again Thursday morning as the ladies of "The View" engaged in a screaming match prompted by the latest John McCain attack ad. Exactly two weeks after Whoopi and Elisabeth's showdown over the N-word, the pair — along with Joy Behar — sparred about McCain and Barack Obama.

The discourse was civil enough, if juvenile, until Joy suggested that McCain's celebrity equivalent is Quaker Oats and diabetes commercial star Wilford Brimley — at which point a pig-tailed Elisabeth asked, "You wanna get into friends of candidates? Let's talk Rezko. Let's talk Reverend Wright. Let's talk Ludacris."

When Elisabeth got some pushback on that point ("This is about the ad," Whoopi reminded her), she cried out, "This is a free country!" at which point the fun started.

Elisabeth: It seems to be that you can only have one opinion in this country right now.
Whoopi: Oh really? After the last eight years you can say that? Don't go there, please. On one opinion, I know. I got eaten by what one opinion should be in this country.
Elisabeth: I'm saying, you experienced that.
Whoopi: Yes I did, so that's not what I'm doing. I'm trying to get this ad out, to talk about this ad, whether you think it's good or whether you don't think it's good. Not because he went here... What was wrong with that ad is, Is there no other way to do this? John McCain is a great guy. I like him. But this was beneath him. He is a much better guy than this. And that's what agitates me.
Joy: Well, he used to be. He used to be. He's not anymore.

As Whoopi says it very well, a singularity of VIEW, world VIEW, Religious VIEW, that typified the certitude and abuse of the Republican Party of the last 8 years and before, nearly destroyed Whoopis career. Her show was canceled, for one statement made.

And for what?

Exercising her freedom of speech?

The same happened to Dan Rather, Bill Moyer, Bill Maher, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Kolbe Bryant, Paul Abdul, Tyra Banks, Snoop Dog, Jay-Z, Ellen Degenerus, Rose O’Donnell Ludicrous and a thousand others that the FOX News team attacked or BUSH placed on the Unpatriotic LIST.

For the most part,,, the BLACK LIST.

The Radical-Right agenda? Anti-Black, Anti-Gay, Anti-Jew, Anti-Discussions, Anti-Abortion, Anti-Immigration, Anti-Mexican, Anti-Affirmative Action, Anti-Civil Rights, Anti-Constitution, Anti-Civil Liberties, Anti-Womens Rights, Anti-FREE SPEECH,,,, only seen over time,,,, only clear when you BACKAWAY a bit and LOOK.

And Elisabeth doesn’t GET IT.

But don’t every say Elisabeth has not had her chance to SPEAK.

To have Elisabeth taken off the show, is pure foolishness,, and violates about every principle I hold dear. And MUCH, of what I shared above.

Soooo what to do?

If she is ignorant,,, TEACH.
If she is hateful,,, LOVE.
If she is fearful,,, Comfort.
If she is insecure,,,, Reassure.
If she is rash,, Patients.
If she is troubled,,, Encourage.

As Elisabeth GROWS,,, and LEARNS,,, so will MILLIONS of Americans like her.

I believe both Whoopi and Elisabeth are entitled to their opinion. I would prefer to see them argue their position versus share the political animus that we continously see on FOX or MSNBC. Clearly, Elisabeth is more partial to the GOP talking points versus developing a point by point argument to clarify and defend her position. Whoopi shared her opinion but, i seems like everytime she shares Elisabeth ends up crying or getting upset. I feel like this is Rosie and Elisabeth all over. Barbara its time for mediation.

Elisabeth isn't just partial to GOP talking points, she is GOP talking points pinata. It's interesting, sometimes, to see these political tete-a-tetes drawn to the surface on shows like The View because the cadence of talking head news shows gets disrupted and replaced with a more honest and extemporaneous exchange. But, Elisabeth always brings me down with a laundry list of party standards. I wish she would surprise me sometime with something new and stop seeming to be a chapter and verse proxy.

The ad per se is ineffective IMO because it's a typical preaching to the choir ad. People who dislike Obama because he is seen by some as charismatic are missing the point--as are those who like him for the same reason. It's all concern about style versus substance. And that make it beneath the dignity of someone like McCain, who is a man of considerable gravitas. This just makes him look silly.

The US is going through a normal economic adjustment, it happens constantly (Clinton had the dot com bubble burst in the late '90s which cause a recession that the MSM never talked about) and has already bottomed out. There were over 50 straight months of job increases, and the jobless rate during that time was below 5%, both records. Lately, the jobless rate is above 5% (which is still low) and the jobs have been lost many months in a row. This normal. If you were a true student of politics and the economy, you'd know that, and not make a fool of yourself.
