Today Kathy Hilton weighed in on the controversial John McCain ad featuring her daughter Paris, as well as the singer Britney Spears, in a blog on the Huffington Post. Mrs. Hilton called the ad "frivolous" and a waste of "money" and the "country's time":

I've been asked again and again for my response to the now infamous McCain celebrity ad. I actually have three responses. It is a complete waste of the money John McCain's contributors have donated to his campaign. It is a complete waste of the country's time and attention at the very moment when millions of people are losing their homes and their jobs. And it is a completely frivolous way to choose the next President of the United States.

McCain has said the ad was an attempt to inject some humor into the campaign, while Obama cited it as evidence that McCain would rather launch negative attacks than debate important issues:

McCain, the Republican presidential candidate, said last week that his campaign ad mocking Democrat Barack Obama with images of Hilton and singer Britney Spears was part of an attempt to inject humor into the presidential race...

...The ad plays on Obama's popularity by dismissing him as a mere celebrity, like Hilton and Spears. The Obama campaign has said the ad is proof that McCain would rather launch negative attacks than debate important issues.

McCain on Friday denied that his campaign had taken a negative turn, saying, "We think it's got a lot of humor in it, we're having fun and enjoying it."

Kathy Hilton, however, was unpersuaded, calling the ad "a complete waste of the money John McCain's contributors have donated to his campaign."

Kathy Hilton and her husband donated a total of $4,600 to McCain's campaign earlier this year.

Kathy Hilton would know about "frivolous" , "waste of money" ,and waste of "time". But that is what she is all about.

Oh how quickly those people forget.

February 24, 2005, Washington Post

"Andy Warhol said we all get our 15 minutes of fame," says Barack Obama. "I've already had an hour and a half. I mean, I'm so overexposed, I'm making Paris Hilton look like a recluse."

It's Ok for Obama to compare himself to Paris......it's "evil" and "racist" and "rethug" for others to do it!

LAUGH.

I understand Paris Hilton is famous for being famous. That she does things like calls reporters and tells them she is going to the beech, they can come and take her picture.

I'm afraid I wouldn't cross the street to see her, or Obama. In my opinion, if Obama becomes president, he will be famous for the damage he does to our nation and will make Bush look like "the good old days".

In response to "your opinion", That is not likely!

Yeah, Bush has done such a bang up job, that to get any worse, we would have to elect someone almost exactly like him...oh, wait...I think I have someone in mind!!! What a coincidence!

A February 24, 2005, Washington Post article begins:

There's nothing exotic or complicated about how phenoms are made in Washington, and, more to the point, how they are broken.

"Andy Warhol said we all get our 15 minutes of fame," says Barack Obama. "I've already had an hour and a half. I mean, I'm so overexposed, I'm making Paris Hilton look like a recluse."

Sorry the Hilton name isn't worth much as far as respected opinions these days.
Conrad Hilton the Hilton hotel founder must be spinning in his grave.

I guess her political party's hatred of people is much worse when it's a member of your family. Keep donating money so the hatred can go on, and on, and on.........
07:44 PM on 08/04/2008
Ok, so about all it seems that Paris Hilton does, is to wander around to one party after another, posing for cameras with that idiotic tilted head pose (really....does she have some kind of congenital neck defect ?), and get stopped for DWI and put into jail.
Britney Spears, love her or hate her, has worked, actually worked, at her career of singing. She may not be everyone's cup of tea, but neither is Led Zeppelin. But, you can't deny, that the woman gets into a studio, records, and goes on concert tours-not easy work, whether or not what you record actually sells enough to keep you off the unemployment and welfare rolls, or from working three part time jobs...and hopefully, her days of wandering around from party to party are at an end.
If I were Ms Spears, I think I'd demand an apology from McCain. Ms Hilton...I don't think has one coming. McCain only pointed out what everyone knows.

Spears is not going to show up as an Obama supporter unless she has really grown from a few short years ago when she told an interviewer "We should believe the President [Bush] and do everything he says."

Paris is embarrassed of her mother. Mother has been riding on her daughter's coattails for some time now. But I guess now she is important enough to merit an entire storyline from Huffy.

Poor Mrs. Hilton. She does not mention here the fact that she donated the maximum amount to McCain's campaign. So....ouch.

Talk about pouring from the empty into the void.
I love the way Obama counters by saying he would rather debate the issues than what, be mocked by John McCain? If Obama wants to debate so bad then why doesn't he start showing up at some joint events with McCain. These low information voters, that intellectuals deride, see this for what it is, a fear of direct confrontation.
Perhaps Obama only has confidence in his message when his is the only voice you can hear?
McCain is going to keep aiming up in the clouds at Obama with these cheap shots until Obama comes down to earth and does some mano o mano with his opponent.

This type of ridiculous male bravado is exactly what is wrong with the Republican party. Now, pay attention, because I'm not going to use ugly criticisms or redneck euphamisms to illustrate my point: John McCain only proved how irrelevant he is by pointing to Paris and Britney. The average person visiting Perez Hilton or buying Us Magazine is much more likely to vote for American Idol than in a presidential election. The rest of us consider them jokes well past their prime. Direct confrontation comes from civilized debates, not cheap pot-shots and mean-spirited commercials. Please know that we are all tired of the bullies ruling the playground. It's time to elect a respectable person into the highest office in the land.

Thank you for replying, however, It's not just male bravado, this election is actually a contest that someone will WIN. Agree or disagree, McCain thinks Obama is taking the low road in not having joint events. Obama is not above the fray and not quite as far out of the reach of the Republican spin machine as he and his staff imagined. These ads and the more to surely come prove that. I say enough of these high flung policy wonk speeches clearly designed simply for the audience of the moment. I want to see them together. Does it occur to anyone that Obama just might prove himself the better candidate in these joit events? And yes, this election is about proving to be the better candidate. It's an election not an annointing.

Republicans are not funny. Bush? Cheney? McCain? Not a true wit in the bunch. McCain has an annoying habit of telling a "joke" and then laughing at it. That worked for Red Skelton years ago.
The lone Republican "funnyman" is Dennis Miller and he comes across as desperate and bitter. I cannot think of a right wing politician who is really funny. Am I forgeting someone or do Republicans lack a sense of comic timing and originality? McCain's idea of joke is always mean-spirited. I know that his media pals describe him as engaging but I cannot recall him ever saying anything that was truly funny.
