Seth Rogen went on "The Daily Show" to promote his marijuana buddy movie "The Pineapple Express." Rogen cowrote the movie and stars in it, and as he told Jon Stewart, his advice to high school kids is to drop out of school, smoke a ton of weed, and then write a movie about it. That was his path to success. Other topics: how strong weed is these days and how old Rogen looks.

It's so crazy how different marijuana laws are across the country. Get caught with a joint in Georgia...your life is probably over. In Oakland, Ca, you can smoke wherever and whenever you want so long as you're not literally blowing it in someone's face.

In my home state of Massachusetts, they don't even fine you until the THIRD time you get caught with weed (so long as it's under an ounce and you're not on school grounds). I myself as well as several friends have been caught by the cops smoking in public and ALL they did was ask us to take it inside. It's expected to become completely decriminalized this year as its on the ballot and EVERYONE (okay, not really, but it seems like it) is toking up or has at one point. I'm middle class and everyone I knows smokes at least occasionally. Every September we have the Boston Hemp Fest in which thousands of people converge on Boston Common and smoke completely out in the open.

I remember a bumper sticker I saw once that I loved...

"Man made beer. God made pot. Who do you trust?"

Oh the trials and tribulations of pot use...baloney! Addiction says more about the person, than the object of their vices. Many individuals use marijuana responsibly, but you don't hear about those cases. I've been smoking pot since I was 16(33 now), I run a profitable business, I have a beautiful 9 month old daughter, own my own home, and pay my taxes. I have NEVER had a desire to experiment with hard drugs, I don't have a criminal record, and lazy or slacker is not in my vocabulary. Much of the these negatives associated with pot are stereotypes, alcohol has destroyed far more lives than pot, but it's accpeted. The federal governemt should legalize pot, regulate and tax the industry, and stop wasting the taxpayers dollars.

I saw this interview and thought it was great.

Takes some balls to say what he said, even in jest.

He's a smart young man who is not afraid to speak his mind. The way this country has demonized marijuana is totally hysterical. Legalize it, tax it, spend the money on education and set free non-violent drug offenders sitting in jail. quit wasting billions of our tax payer dollars on the silly war on marijuana and the prisons to house the victims of it.

I love Seth, but he did a crappy job of selling his movie on The Daily Show.

He needs instruction in this area.

He was better on Charlie Rose, but Judd was there and Charlie does a much more structured interview.

The Daily Show interview actually made me uncomfortable.

if you're not bothering anyone and handling your business it shouldn't matter whether you smoke weed, drink alcohol, smoke cigarettes, or are a vegan..............

All the people on here who are denigrating this guys acheivements, remember a couple things.
1. He writes and produces his own material, doing just what he wants for a living, making it look easy because to him it is.
2. You don't have to like it or buy it.
3. A lot of people have.
4. He doesn't really give a sh*t what you think.
5. He makes movies, you write angry tripe on internet forums.

I only wish every rich, famous, 26 year old in LA were HALF as down to earth as this guy.

At least he's not a coke-head like a large chunk of the studio-ites down there.

God bless ya, Seth and here's hoping you're on the scene for a long time.

I'm a former smoker..and Seth..enjoy it now..once you have kids you have to go straight...I'm too scared to even think about copping weed. Why? If I do, I'd lose my job, my livelihood. It'd be the beginning of a downward spiral. Enjoy it Seth!

It depends on where you live. Seth lives in California and most places there the consequences for smoking are minimal or non existant. Yes for some people it is a big risk to themselves and their families to smoke. But where I'm from (Boston) you don't even get a fine if you have under an ounce. if cops see you smoking they either don't do anything or ask you to toss it out or take it inside. Other cities across America are the same way. In Hawaii everyone smokes on the beach.

I was born in Boston, not like I live here just because I can smoke here with impunity, but it sure is a nice bonus!!

Every time Stewart has stoners or slackers on as guests, I just skip that portion. And these male 'stars' who are 38 acting like 14 and pushing their latest lame movie, I am sick of them. How come Colbert doesn't have to endure this sort of rubbish? Maybe Stewart should step up to his level. There are enough places all over Comedy Central and the Internet for these stoners and slackers to peddle their juvenile wares, why not steer them away from The Daily Show? It makes it look stoopid.

shengirl: Give Stewart a meaty interview subject and he will rise to the challenge. His demolishing of Ben Wattenberg was brilliant: Stewart joked around a bit, but he was never less than civil, and Wattenberg just looked like a jerk. And some celebrity interviews can be fun: the recent one with Maggie Gyllenhaal was great, and when he had on Dustin Hoffman a couple years ago, it was wonderful TV.

However, neither one is served by the 10-minute interview segments. I saw a DVD of Dick Cavett interviews with various movie legends (Bette Davis, Orson Welles, John Huston) and it was a revelation. He actually spent 70 minutes (an hour and a half with commercials) with each guest!

sounds like you're not the target audience shengirl. maybe you forgot that the daily show was on comedy central- the same station that has cheech and chong and how high running for a 24 hour marathon on 4/20. i think that girls just don't understand these types of films/people (in large part, there are always exceptions..)

and how on earth is he a slacker? the man has done more in his 26 years than you have probably done in your 45 (you sound like ur hell4 old..)

Jon is an avid supporter of marijuana legalization and used to be a huge stoner himself, therefor, I think he's not exactly "suffering" in the presense of stoners.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:19 PM on 08/08/2008

but our culture of glorifying alcohol consumption is so mature. anyone can go on tv and talk about drinking, but if it's pot, you're an immature slacker even if you're productive and successful. i smoke every day and i'm getting my phd...hmm, slacker? nope. "stoopid"? i'd like to think that's not the case.

not to mention, why are you advocating silencing an entire subculture of people? everyone deserves a voice...

LOL, first off, why on earth would his 4 year old be watching the Daily Show?

Considering Jon Stewart used to be a huge pothead and talks openly about that fact ALL THE TIME, and starred in the movie "Half Baked" I'm guessing he's not exactly offended.

Seth Rogin showed that he had nothing of any importance to say or anything that was particularly funny. He's a very lucky man and will be the next Chris O'Donnell in 5 years. Or maybe Martin Lawrence.

I'm with Jane on this one. As much as I don't care what people do to themselves, I just want to state my conviction that creativity is amplified when your mind is clear.

Yeah Seth - make better movies. Because 40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up, and Superbad will go down as horrible and unfunny. Oh wait, you have no idea what you are talking about?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:50 PM on 08/07/2008

What an incredibly stupid statement. He's already, clearly, surpassed both. He is who he is, he writes what he writes....just like any artist, you either like it or you don't. 'Superbad' was hilarious, and probably the best/funniest youth comedy ever made. If he retires tomorrow, he'll have had a very nice career....one that would be the envy of anyone in Hollywood who isn't a superstar.

Legalize it.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:18 PM on 08/06/2008

Superbad the best youth comedy of all time? Pushing it a little Duck, you need to see more movies. I liked it but it was not even close to fast times, dazed and confused etc. and the fat kid getting the pretty girl in the end? We all know that only happens in the movies.

I think his movies are pretty entertaining and I think pot should be legalized.

I also agree with Gary. He didn't have anything any importance to say nor did he say anything that was particularly funny.

I've seen Rogan interviewed at a writer's symposium. He is who he portrays and it's getting very old. The guy is only where he is because of Apatow. If he didn't have a high powered mentor, he'd be nowhere. The guy can't act and he certainly can't write anything other than pot and masterbation jokes.

And before someone posts that I must be a prude or worse, a Republican, sorry but I'm a left of center liberal who thinks pot should be legal. I'm also someone who expects a little more talent from my entertainers than what this shlubb has.

Agree, and I'm not a Republican either, and I think pot should be legal. It's just that Rogen is kind of a one-trick pony.

Yup. Apparently, like Pavlovian dogs, the minute the weed schtick is dragged out by Hollywood (which is about making bucks, right?) we are supposed to laugh ourselves stupid. And let it be understood that we just cannot get enough of it, so great is the hilarity of any weed humor. I support legalization too, and I don't want to ruin anyone's party, but do we get to ask some questions? For example: is it really, like, totally cool that kids as young as 12 or 13 are already heavily smoking weed? Can we, like, WONDER if there aren't some psychological or developmental concerns here? Before anyone out there jumps down my throat, I am JUST ASKING, because it's not clear to me that everything is just absolutely fine with that. And it's not like Rogen's films don't have any influence on adolescents. Now here comes the part where all the virtuous partisans of freedom and individual rights crucify me for daring to even ask. Any one got ABSOLUTE proof that kids aren't affected? And none of the "I'm-fine-so-everyone-else-is" ad hominem crap.

Well I don't think many people are PROUD of it. I'm not proud of smoking pot anymore than I'm proud of drinking coffee. Just not ashamed of it either. Then again I live in Amsterdam and Boston where a huge amount of the population smokes and is open about that fact; doctors, lawyers, firemen, teachers, etc. If you live in an environment where pot is socially acceptable, you're not going to hide the fact you love you some goood ganja!
