Stephen Colbert's Latest Stunt: Hack The Democratic Convention

Over the past week, there have been rumblings that Democratic Convention-attending supporters of once (and future?) presidential candidate Hillary Clinton are not content with the privilege of honorably discharging their DNC duties and receiving all of the attendant perks of membership to which they are entitled. No, no! In addition, these delegates will require some manner of extra-super-special treatment like a cake or a party or a hug or, as the candidate herself puts it, a "catharsis."

Well, as aggrieved cults of personality go, none are more dedicated -- or more anarchic -- than the green-screen animating, Wikipedia vandalizing, Hungarian bridge-vote hacking Colbert Nation, and on last night's Colbert Report, the eponymous host, after pointing out how his own White House hopes were undone by Democratic Party machinations, sicced his followers on the Denver festivities:

"Like Hillary, I selflessly stepped aside once I had no other option....You need to be acknowledged...You deserve to have you have me have a speech at the Democratic convention."

As you'll see in the video, the threats begin at ominous chanting, but have the potential to go much further. We can only encourage such lovely foolishness!

Stephen is awesome! The Colbert Nation says let Stephen speak or we'll all vote for Ron Paul! ;P

Dammit people wake up! Stephen helped the Dem's in the 2006 election and he could help them here if they only had the sense to let him.

You don't suppose the Democrats learned anything about Stephen from the Correspondents Dinner do you?

Besides, He is a Republican.

He is no Republican. His character is an absurd caricature of a Republican loudmouth blow-hard. Huge difference.

Stephen Colbert, who would give the speech at the Convention is a REPUBLICAN.

Stephan Colbert who plays Stephan Colbert is . . . who knows.

But there is no doubt: His writers are liberals.

And the Democrats should take a lesson from the Correspondents Dinner.

Do not invite Stephan.

All though I am sure it would be very funny.

Ohmygod! You can't be serious. Stephen was brilliant at the correspondents dinner. Stephen's "Republican" character is full of "win". He deals in satire and truthiness. He's funny. You're not an it-getter. Watch the show, people! Geez!

I'd love a Colbert speech at the convention!

So the message here from Hill is "If you've got pent-up desire get behind President Obama"?

Chant "Where's Colbert?" during Bill & Hillary's speeches. Taht would put proper perspective on her "victory".

Just one more reason to be damn glad Hillary will never, ever be president. Can you imagine putting up with this pathetic circus for four years?

Maureen Dowd's piece today is required reading as well... unless you're a die hard Clintonian.

Dittos.

Is that how they say that? Sorry. But really, what you said.

I couldnt have said it any better. Colbert is the comedian of our time, he and Stewart woke up the youth of America to politics.

I think Colbert is the most brilliant satarist to come along since... well... Mark Twain. When he skewerd BushCO at the National Press Club with BushCO sitting there, he became an instant legend.

What if Stephen opened for Hillary on Tuesday night. Just a thought.

I wonder what happened to the poor misguided soul who booked Colbert for that event. He's probably wasting away in Gitmo.

I loved that speech he gave at the National Press Club - my favorite part is how he ridiculed the press:

Addressing the reporters, he said, "Let's review the rules. Here's how it works. The president makes decisions, he"s the decider. The press secretary announces those decisions, and you people of the press type those decisions down. Make, announce, type. Put them through a spell check and go home. Get to know your family again. Make love to your wife. Write that novel you got kicking around in your head. You know, the one about the intrepid Washington reporter with the courage to stand up to the administration. You know -- fiction."

What do you think are the chances that the Repugs will invite him to their keynote speaker?

Since Will Rogers.
