Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili on Wednesday called for John McCain and other American leaders to do more for Georgia in their response to the conflict in his country.

"Yesterday, I heard Sen. McCain say, 'We are all Georgians now,'" Saakashvili said on CNN's American Morning. "Well, very nice, you know, very cheering for us to hear that, but OK, it's time to pass from this. From words to deeds."

Nogovitsyn said Russian troops went to Gori to establish contact with the local civilian administration and take control over military depots left behind by the Georgian forces. "The abandoned weapons needed protection," he said.

Rumsfeld asks "Why?".

The one question that needs to be asked is: what were our intelligence agencies doing? Either they failed us again, or we were in the know on Georgias actions in ossettia, either option is not good.

Now "W" knows why Putin was whistling Ray Charles tunes when they met in Bejing!

Why did Russia invade Georgia? Remember this name -- Randy Scheunemann. Neocon extraordinaire, and Iraq hack and flack. Chief McCain "foreign policy adviser." Lobbyist who promised Georgia President Mikheil Saakashvili the world re: Russian problems in exchange for hundreds of thousands of dollars paid directly to... Randy Scheunemann.

What Mikheil should have realized is, as Jonathan Alter said tonight on Keith Olbermann: We don't do shooting wars with Russia.

Hey Randy. Give the money back.

Dear Mikheil Saakashvili:

Ignore the man behind the curtain and his words of encouragement. Maybe you didn't know this but we are currently in election season where McCain will say anything to get noticed. Sorry he got your hopes up. He is only a candidate and not a POTUS, and even though he has worked on your behalf since 2001, it appears that he did not garner the favor you required...please refer your requests to GWB in the future, well at least for the next 4 months..

Saakashvili said (in the CNN John Roberts interview,) ""our troops were always there. we always controlled most of south ossetia; they were fired at by russian controlled forces...
we didn't react for a long time. i announced a cease fire...and we didn't respond until 150 tanks moved into georgian territory, and started open intervention..."

this is from an article by Carol Sweeney of Reuters, reprinted in the International Tribune Herald's website, iht.com
(Published Wed. Aug 6): "South Ossetians say Georgian forces have been firing on their villages, forcing the evacuation of women and children into Russia. Weekend clashes in the region killed several people and fuelled fears Georgia was preparing to strike.

Georgia rejected the allegations Tbilisi is behind the increased violence.

Russia has peacekeepers stationed in South Ossetia and says they are needed to avert a new war, though Tbilisi wants the Russians replaced by an international force, saying Moscow's troops are not impartial.

Last month Russia sent its warplane to fly over South Ossetia in a move it said was needed to discourage Georgians from striking the separatists. Georgia has denies such plans."

The fact that there needed to be Russian "peacekeepers" in South Ossetia goes unmentioned by Saakashvilli, as well as any mention of fighter planes flying overhead; why? Wasn't there more to this than he was making it out to be? I smell a rat.

Well,, I study Vladimir Putin, I am NOT A SUPORTER OR condoning ANY of his actions in Georgia, but this was coming,,, 4 years ago.

What are we seeing?

The hardliners against President Saakashvili, possible demands for his resignation. Continuing discussions at the UN Security Council, LONG before this Russian Invasion.

About Putin? He is one,,, hell,,, of a strategist.

World Press at the Olympics, Iraq bleeding American Military to near exhaustion.

Respond? Hell yes! America has 500,000 troops in ready status,, ships, planes and transport, BUT about 3 months away,,, logistically.

Remember,, Rumsfeld stripped our BOOTS on the GROUND GRUNT Forces and ARMOR,, in favor of his--- Nintendo Warrior Plans. Americans fed up with ALL wars. NATO tied down in Afghanistan, FRANCE not about to oppose Russia in a Heavy Armor, limited GROUND WAR, in their back yard. Tactical Nukes are out, as the Russians are imbedded with Georgian Civilian communities.

America open a 6th front? Not hardly.

WE,,, have a Lame Duck President, who has no support, Pants down, SAME as 911. A failure of imagination, elections to complete.

And we thought the Cold War was won?

What"s Putin to do?

NOTHING!!!! Check Mate.

Quietly,, reinforce his Ports control, occupy and protect strategic roads and pipelines.

And do NOTHING!

Just set and do nothing, AND WAIT.

Moral Outrage? International support? Arguments over National Sovereignty,? Bush pounding his Shoe on the podium?

Right!

Iraq,,,, took that from America.

JMO

All the best

How dare the President of Georgia suggest our republician administration risks it's blood and treasure for some country that most Americans have never heard of!!!! We don't go marching half cocked into wars............Unless we get paid for it. Sign over that oil pipeline that runs through your country and well... I guess we can send over few soldiers from Kentucky, Alabama West Virgina, Mississippi, and Texas.

Just what we need -- a plea to old 894 class ranking out of 899 at war college McCain from someone he just committed to being in "solidarity" with. So the guy to whom stupid McCain committed to is one of 2 bad actors, one from each side, but with old stupid John making commitments, endangering our troops in Afghanistan because the Russians could decide to have their surrogates provide SAM missiles to secular Afghans who would use them to shoot down American air forces (a Russian version of Charley Wilson's war with Americans dying), stupid McCain may get us into another useless, not-in-our-interests, extremely costly in American lives, limbs and treasure war without his even being President.

It's pretty clear that two-bit, ambitious leaders, all smarter than old 894 class rank out of 899, looking out for their own interests are lining up waiting for stupid 894 to get elected. And old 894 will fight to the last drop of American blood and American treasure to fight for something that is not even close to worth the cost or even in our interests.

Senator Obama's Statement on Georgia

Below is a statement from Senator Obama in response to President Bush"s announcement on Georgia...

I welcome President Bush's decision to send aid to the people of Georgia, and Americans stand united in support of the men and women who will carry out this humanitarian mission. As soon as possible, we must follow this aid with broader reconstruction assistance, including emergency economic loans, to help the people of Georgia rebuild their lives and their economy.

The situation is still unstable, and Russia must back up its commitment to stop its violence and violation of Georgia's sovereignty with actions - not just words. The United States should now join our European partners in direct, high-level diplomacy with both Georgia and Russia to seek immediate implementation of a cease-fire, and to achieve a lasting resolution to this crisis. There must be independent monitors to verify the implementation of this cease-fire, and Russia must not use this moment to consolidate a position that violates Georgia's territorial integrity, or to violate the human rights of the people of Georgia.

As we move forward, the United States and Europe must review our multilateral and bilateral arrangements with Russia in light of its actions. The loss of life over the last few days has been tragic, and there are no winners in this conflict. Now we must rededicate ourselves to achieving a lasting peace in the region.

And to wrap it all up John McCain thinks he can pretend to be president and Obama cannot simply because McCain thinks only white people are allowed to act presidential. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me, fool me three times you deserve it america.

What would John McWayne do?

He could go to Georgia, and call them all "Pilgrims," and lead them into battle.

This would clearly show that John McWayne is ready to lead, and be Commander in Chief.

I think John McWayne should go to Georgia. Condi's there... or so they say.

I would also love to see John McWayne "John Wayning" a belt fed .30 cal.

That would be priceless...
