Endangered Species Act

Sure, the Fish and Wildlife Service is interested in reading your comments about the Bush administration's latest gutting of the Endangered Species Act -- just not that interested. In what will likely come as no surprise to long time readers of this blog, the Bush White House has once again decided that, given the choice, it would rather not listen to your lily-livered, tree-hugging blatherings, thank you very much. That is, unless you're willing to deliver them by snail mail.

Unbeknownst to me and, I would imagine, the many of you who gave up on this administration's so-called "environmental" initiatives a long time ago, the Fish and Wildlife Service suddenly decided to stop accepting public comments on proposed changes to the Endangered Species Act last December.

Bush is at war with any eco-system without a field of oil laying underneath it. The administration is at war with many endangered species and science as a whole. For this reason and many others. the Bush administration is the most hated by the public, least competent, and will undoubtedly be assigned as the worst administration of all time. What a waste considering it has access to the best minds, if the administration would only listen. The learning curve of the Bush administration is a straight line.

Another case of blatant censorship from White House:

This is not helping the current state of public ignorance regarding critical issue of biodiversity loss:

What will environmentalism be in the face of approaching Global Climate Disruption?

How can we be concerned about protecting individual environments when Mother Nature herself will roll over and crush her babies?

I have asked this question repeatedly on H uffy over the last three years but no one has offered a sane answer. Usually folks just ask me where they can get some of what I am smoking. Okay, I have found some answers elsewhere.

Greg Craven argues that Global Climate Disruption disrupts, displaces and replaces ALL environmental concerns. If we fail to mitigate this, all other environmental (and left-leaning) concerns are lost anyways.

Some have suggested that the Environmentalist movement will become nihilist as evidence that human civilization has forced Mother Nature into destroying her puppies becomes more evident. Environmental t errorism may replace religious t errorism as public enemy number one.

Hello? Is there anyone here?

It's illegal. If we an prove that they did not accept comments, the regulations are not legally effective.

The Bush regime has stopped even pretending they listen to citizens. To Americans. Who's country this is.

Bush and Cheney have the kind of deep respect for nature that is seen in outdoorsmen. I too have fond memories of autumn quail hunts. Getting sh_t faced drunk while a chauffer hauled me around in a Hummer then the gun bearer handing me the shotgun so I could bag the stocked birds. Then, staggering, I turned toward my companion and......[ boom !! ]......ooops.......

But that's O.K. You think the NRA is going to endorse a sober Democrat??

Check out commentary from NRDC's endangered species expert Andrew Wetzler about how he discovered this "no-email" policy and what can be done about it at Switchboard, the NRDC blog. http://switchboard.nrdc.org/blogs/awetzler/tags/showtag.php?tag=endangeredspeciesact

Does anybody think that the administration gives a care about what the public (meaning those who dont give massive donations to the RNC) thinks?

This is the environmental equivalent of a last week presidental pardon. The rules will be in place just in time for in the last weeks of the term having the government approve a whole range of questionable permits. Then before anything can be done to restore the rules the bulldozers will have finished.

Perhaps this is payback for the asinine environmental suit to force placement of the Polar Bear, a non-endangered species, on the endangered species list based on a nebulous prediction that Polar Bears might become endangered in the future?

If we can attack people who might attack us in the future, why not this? Haven't seen your comment of the administration's "asinine" Iraq policy.

"The groups first petitioned to have the polar bear listed as threatened last February. The Endangered Species Act requires that the Secretary of the Interior respond within 90 days of receiving such notice, but the Secretary has yet to comply. The Secretary received another notice 60 days ago, but the groups have received no response. If today’s lawsuit is successful, polar bears could become the first mammal to be officially declared at risk due to global warming. "

It is a shame people must sue the government to get it to do what it is legally required to do.
