BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. — Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi are married, according to reports. In the biggest celebrity union since California legalized same-sex marriage, DeGeneres, 50, and de Rossi, 35, wed Saturday night in an intimate ceremony at their Beverly Hills home, People and Us Magazine reported.

A publicist for DeGeneres confirmed People's report and gave no further comment.

After the California Supreme Court's ruling in May, the talk-show host announced that she and de Rossi would wed after four years together.

The ceremony was attended by 19 guests, including DeGeneres' mom, Betty, and de Rossi's mother, Margaret Rogers, who had flown in from Australia, People.com reported Saturday night.

DeGeneres said after winning her fourth consecutive Daytime Emmy for talk show host in June that a date had not been set, and that she would show "a tiny bit" of the nuptials on her show.

While opponents in California have gathered signatures to put a measure on the November ballot for a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage, Hollywood was throwing its support behind the newlyweds.

"One of my favorite people of all time is Ms. Ellen DeGeneres," Katherine Heigl, star of "Grey's Anatomy," told Associated Press Television News at a Hollywood charity event on Saturday night. "So I wish all the best, all the happiness, all the joy that comes with that certificate ... just the joy of being able to stand up and say that. In front of everyone you love and care about in front of each other and to walk away legal is huge."

Tila Tequila, whose dating reality show fame is built somewhat on her affinity for both men and women, passed along her good wishes _ with only one small complaint.

"I love Ellen (DeGeneres); I watch her show all the time," Tequila told APTN. "I just want to say congratulations, and I am really sorry you didn't invite me to your wedding."

So happy for Ellen and Portia! Brings tears to my eyes every time I think about it. Not just because its a lesbian union finally recognized, but because Ellen found love after Anne Heche broke her heart. And, this is coming from a big Anne Heche fan.

....No children will be hurt by divorce ... no halves will be omitted from inheritances ... fewer men and women will lose their lives because of jealousy, hopefully.

I am a strong Democrat, but I still believe marriage should be ONE man and ONE woman ... NOT multiple marriages of mothers and fathers who destroy the lives of their children.

So you believe divorce is evil?

Wow!!! People are so interesting. It's wild to hear everyone's perspective on gay marriage. I asked Jesus in my life on May 17, 1975 and it was the greatest moment of my life but I never stopped loving my cousin because he was gay. I read the Bible, all of it, and there is no way God had his hand on every little word in it. The Bible, especially the Old Testament, had to be written by some old guys that wanted to control society.
If God is going to make someone be attractive to their same sex and then send them to hell for acting on it, that is not a God I want to serve. I've got to tell you though, I loved what Jesus had to say. In his day, can you imagine what people must have thought of him? They probably thought he was nuts with his compassion and love for all people. Call me crazy but what I do know is that I don't feel so alone when things are bad and I pray or when things are great and I rejoice with Jesus. Maybe it is all in my mind but it is really cool.
Obama didn't stand up for gays Saturday and say they have every right to marry one another. That was disappointing. Stop the judgement America and let people be who they are without your condemnation. People don't choose their sexual preference, they are born that way.

Gays should have a special court that they go before to plead for an exception to get married. I would grant this couple the right to get married.

Are you serious? Why should anyone have to get a judges approval to get married? Gay or straight everyone should have the right to love, marry or divorce as they please. Life is far to short and should be far to full to be concerned about what someone else is doing in their bedrooms. We should be more concerned about who will be running our country.

Richard Dawkins-Religion is unusual among divisible labels in being
spectacularly unnecessary. If religious beliefs had any evidence going for
them, we might have to respect them in spite of their concomitant
unpleasantness. But there is no such evidence. To label people as
death-deserving enemies because of disagreements about real world politics
is bad enough. To do the same for disagreements about a delusional world
inhabited by archangels, demons and imaginary friends is ludicrously
tragic.

Anyone who would use some Bronze Age text, translated through 3-5 languages, across 2-5 thousand years, edited, added-to, and spun for local politics- to pass judgement on anyone-or anything, is badly in need of some therapy.
It is time for you religious bullies to some serious push back. There are plenty of theocracies where you can live happily ever after. Go live in one. The US is a secular, constitutional republic, and your fairly tales have no place in the making of laws for the rest of us.

I agree with you, except that the Bible is not a Bronze Age text in any sense.

Those fairy tales have everything to do with the making of our laws and constitutional republic. 95% of Americans believe in those fairy tales, so you "rest of us" (5%) will just have to continue to suck it up the best you can. So sorry.

Habeus Corpus comes from the Bible?

Civil and Property Rights?

American Law is the product of the Hammurabi Code, English Common Law, and Masonic Political Philosophy.

The only thing the Bible gave America was a rationalization for Slavery.

MeanGreenMachine your acting foolish when I know u got a brain. I know what happened will Wiliam Miller and the Millerite followers. The point is he read the bible wrong and had interpret Jesus coming in 1844. Theirs 2 comings Jesus first coming already came when he was here on the earth and his second coming will come one of these days. The point is William Miller read it the wrong way and came up with a date the bible says no one will no the day nor the hour in which Christ Jesus returns NO ONE! So u just have to be prepared.

About three years ago, a far-right ultra-Christian coworker of mine we real hot on End Times study. He was sure the end was near, and ran around pointing out (unconvincing) Bible verses to people.

Now he's up and bought a Prius. He figures we'll all be here for awhile more.

I do believe there's not a single word in the Bible concerning girl-on-girl action. Not one. Not the least little hint! Why doesn't the bigoted right assume (to quote an Oliver North line) that 'silence implies consent' in this regard? They just extrapolate unrelated prohibitions to include lesbians. The haters will find a reason to hate even if they can't find justification for it in the 'good book'.

Jesus Christ promised his disciples he would come again during his generation, and that some of them would not taste of death.

Time to get over it, people.

Some of u people on here are sick in the head and confused, the bible was written long time ago and is still current with today's events. When u read Daniel and Revelation u will understand the world is coming to an end and if u don't believe so then hey when the clouds turn black one day and the sky open u will say that guy on the huffington post was right. Get the king James Version its the most accurate and not corrupt like the other bibles that take out important stuff. READ THE BIBLE ITS DEEP AND U WILL UNDERSTAND TIME IS RUNNING OUT.

Then if the Bible is "still current with today's events", I'm sure you would agree that it's okay to kill your children if they curse you, that it's okay to own slaves, that it's okay to sell your daughter into slavery, that eating pork and shellfish is an "abomination" and that it is a sin to wear clothing made of more than one fiber FOR STARTERS! I can keep this up all day. Why don't you address THESE biblical passages?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:15 PM on 08/18/2008

Because putting down Shellfish doesn't make the "christian" feel better about himself. In order to get that "I'm better than you" feeling they seek, they have to be putting down another person. And they general pick on people who are not strongly supported throughout society. At one time it was Blacks, then native Americans -- now they are on to illegal aliens and Gays.
