I Like ItI Don’t Like It

A Barack Obama ad airing in Colorado contrasts John McCain's sunny economic outlook with working people's serious problems. "How Can John McCain Fix The Economy, If He Doesn't Know It's Broken?" the ad concludes.

Watch:

Marc Ambinder explains how these ads are being distributed:

As widely noticed, Barack Obama has been running tough contrast ads ... negative ads, fine... in at least a half dozen states. The campaign has taken to not informing the media of their ad buys, on purpose, so as to give themselves a few days or even hours worth of deniability and a competitive advantage.

How can this ad be characterized as negative when it quotes McCain's own words assessing the economy? A negative ad would be equating John McCain with right wing celebrities like Rush Limbough, Michael Savage, Glenn Beck, and Sean Hannity. Although I am not sure whether that would be factually inaccurate because the McCain campaign seems to be doing everything to out demagogue those despicable right wing, chicken hawks, nuts, who specialize in mud slinging. The tragedy, of course, is that these right wing smear merchants, who are multi-millionaires, have been able to poison the minds of decent working class while they cynically laughing at them all the way to their fat bank accounts. At the same time, the average Joe's and Jane's have increasingly been loosing economic ground as jobs are shipped overseas, gas prices are soaring, many are loosing their houses, no health care, price of educating their kids going through the roof, and the roads and bridges all crumbling around them. Sometimes McCain, Limbough, Hannity seem to be more concerned about reconstructing Iraq than they are about reconstructing America's crumbling infrastructures. Hey, who needs better roads and bridges if you can get around by private jets.

The economy is not in the tank "as far as I know" say John and Cindy McCain.

They and their oil cronies are set for life no matter what happens next.

The very real threat that somebody will not take a liking to Mr. Obama for whatever reason, plus the fact that people may already be aggravated by his skin color has caused the utmost professionals around Obama to consider how to win this thing without seeming overly aggressive, it does appear. Fiery speeches he can do, but if you look at the statistical trends in recent political history, aggressive rhetoric causes dangerous anger in some.

Reminds me of the old line from Adlai Stevenson: "If the Republicans stop telling lies about us, we'll stop telling the truth about them".

It's been shown that the most devastating ads are ones exactly like this one. Show the other side saying what proves your point. So McC saying that he thinks things are just fine, not once, but several times should be effective. Don't you think people are a bit past all that Rovian junk? That's why playing O's 'bitter' remark hurt him.

If there is an ad unleasehd about the whole abortion fiasco Obama finds himself in (as reported on this site today), I fully expect to see you defending the ad. My guess is you will be nowhere to be found.

There is nothing wrong with pointing out what a candidate says- except when Obama is doing the talking.

As one who believes the soul enters the body with the first breath, I find " conservative" view on abortion totally abhorrent.

But then lies, misrepresentation and fearmongering are the strengths of the GOP and conservatives in general.

I am ashamed that we reside in the same city. You know fully well that the ad planed by 527 about Obama is not about facts but about inflaming people with the baseless charge that Obama supports "infanticide." If McCain thinks this is legitimate why not run the ad himself where he acknowledges that he approves the message of the ad? Why hide behind the unaccountable 527's? He is not doing it because he knows that the charge of "infanticide" is a vile and despicable lie. Just to think that this lie, which is really beneath any decent debate on abortion, will be promoted by people who claim to be Christians. It seems to me that for many right wingers lying is part of their moral values. Talk about hypocrites who preach false Christianity.

McCloneBush does not have a clue, and if he is elected, this country will be solidly headed into the realm of the third world (fiscally).

Scary that my fellow citizens are so damned dumb, but then again, they vote not to educate our children. And then have the nerve to complain when we cannot compete globally.

This is not a negative ad. This ad is the truth. I think that Huffpo mislabeled the title to this article.

McCain is out of touch with what the people needs. This ad goes and proves it. Obama is just telling the public what we all know - and that McCain doesn't think the economy is in bad shape at all.

I'm not seeing alot of aggressiveness coming out of camp O. McNutty has been running around talking about O legislating failure in Iraq. Why don't we hear Obama's responses talking about Iraq being an even bigger failure thanks to Bush/McCain? The ads need to be more hard hitting and they seem really soft IMHO...

Why don't we hear about McCain's absence of a voting record?
Why don't we hear about McCain voting again and again against vets?

Obama has not gone negative. By now you know many of the issues against McCain that can be negative (his entire campaign for one).

However this is not a negative ad - it's the truth.

and is sindie still on drugs and does he still think she's a c&nt?

I have no problem with McCain putting out negative ads, but if ONLY their contents were true.

Negative ad? GOOD!

The Republican party has done some tremendously negative things, so negative ads are required in order to highlight the truth. Negative ad does not equal personal attack.

I figure what's good for the elephant is good for the donkey. McCain has consistently run negative ads against Obama. turn about is fair play even if Obama doesn't really want to fall to that level.

There is nothing negative about ad. This is a great ad that uses McCain's own words. I could have wrote a better article than this one. How did this story even make it on the psot?
