How big a deal is today's veepstakes comment from Sen. Joe Biden that "I'm not the guy"?

A figure familiar with Biden's thinking says the remark is hardly consequential.

"That is a comment that he typically gives for people who ask about [the vice presidency]," the source said, adding that it has been the senator's stock answer to the question for weeks now.

In other words, let the speculation continue.

Biden would be wasted as VP.

He needs to be either SecState(though I prefer Richardson) or, and this is the greatest idea EVAR!...

Joe Biden Senate Majority Leader.

No reason that as a potenial either of those he couldn't still act as a bulldog.

what a great way to start a presidential campaign intent on changing politics as usual: Have the Vice Presidential candidate lie to cameras on national televsion.

Biden is one of the problems in Washignton, not a solution. Obama will lose a great deal of credibility if he puts a McCain equivalent on his ticket.

I've been a fan of Biden, however, Michael Moore pointed out yesterday that like Hillary, Biden supported the Iraq war in the beginning. Since that was one thing that Obama has loudly and proudly declared his better judgement, shouldn't he pick a candidate who also was against the war from the beginning? Michael's idea was Caroline Kennedy, I am not sure I agree with that, but there must be someone else that's a good match.

Biden voted for the war, he didn't support it in the beginning. I know, I KNOW, that sounds stupid, but it's true. He tried slowing down the rush to war. And lets not forget, the books were cooked on this one. Saddam went to a lot of trouble to appear to have weapons, and the Administration went to a lot of trouble to reinforce those appearances.

Well that then leaves Russ Feingold, and I very much doubt it will be Russ. I would love Russ as VP more than anything. Unfortunately, it won't be him....too much of a progressive to help the campaign, divorced and unmarried, and Wisconsin is more of a purple state that chose Obama over Hillary in the primary. Wisconsin will vote dem this November (barely) but I doubt that Feingold can bring anything to the table that Barack needs. Okay, maybe some Jewish votes?

Biden is the perfect choice. in every way. The choice has Caroline and Ted Kennedy's hand all over it. Mostly because of his Foreign policy and Senator experiencee. A perfect countweight to Obama. Biden can talk turkey to the militaristic hawks with great authority and not seem weak and wimpish. on defense, the most effective weapon the hawks use against the Democrats..

35 years in the Senate is a reason NOT to chose Biden. And foriegn policy experience? He voted for the Iraq War, the biggest foreign policy blunder in American history. So much for experience AND judgment. Putting Biden on the ticket is like running with McCain, not againt him.

I believe Sen. Biden sealed the vp nomination a few months ago while questioning Gen. Petraeus and Amb. Crocker. Petreaus was telling Biden what he needed, and Biden promptly corrected him by saying the general makes recommendations to the Foreign Relations Committee and "we tell you what to do."

He turned to Crocker and told him, "We need to see a "surge" diplomatically that now just isn't surging."

Sen. Biden is a good match with Obama. He will speak Obama's subtext without hesitation or any silly soft-shoe political bs.

The problem is that Biden never stops speaking, even with both feet in his mouth.

Wow, talks a lot. Sounds terrible. And the fact that he's smart? send shivers down my spine

In an ideal world, one without Rovian tactics, perhaps Biden would not be the ultimate Democratic pick.
That said; Joe Biden is the best choice for us to regain the Presidency.

He takes no guff, he is brilliant and has the respect of world leaders!

Can't wait for my text - make it Biden!

He'd be a good pick. He'd also be an excellent choice for heading the State Department.

everyone loves Joe Biden. He is very respected on the Hill and can help push through those things that need to be done to help fix this mess.

Obama needs somebody who can kick ass since he is so unwilling or unable to fight back against McCain. Joe is the man for the job.

But Obama's got to LET HIM DO IT.

Not muzzle him (Leahy) or let him twist slowly in the wind (Clark).

Otherwise, he should choose someone meek and bland like Bayh..and pray.

Agreed. Biden's best when he's left to be Biden. It will cause some panics in the Obama campaign, but the rewards are so much better than the losses.

Biden . . . great choice . . . his foreign policy experience complements Obama perfectly. If he can get NATO countries to match his billion dollar pledge, world opinion obviously agrees . . . not that domestic opinion isn't critical, but if we can bring our men and women home and simultaneoulsly avert a cold war with international unity . . . . great news, great choice . . . hope thrives eternal.

read Clarks response about Georgia:

http://securingamerica.com/node/3074

Did Clark say Obama was not ready to be president? I can;t find that quote anywhere. He did say Hillary was ready.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:15 AM on 08/20/2008

If Hillary is ready, from now on, only First Ladies need apply for the USA presidency. A USA president should have a better character than the narcissitic Clintons and also we don't accept Imelda Marcos' style, family power, of governing here. If the wife was a co-president, she is out of the race due to the Constitution's ban of the third term presidency. Bill won in 1992 with 43% even though some people doubted his foreign policy experience being a governor of the small state Arkansas. And now people forgot about his inexperience then.
But how about McCain? No one talks about McCain's experience or what his 26 years of experience done to Washington DC!

I just want to know if the claim that Clark said Obama was not ready to be president is true or not. It would disappoint me, if Clark had said that.

This weeklong anticipation is a great PR move by the Obama camp and Biden is compromising it by not being a team player. He should have said, "you'll find out soon" and that's all.

Oh, I hope Obama doesn't waste Joe on the VP slot. If ever there was a ready made GREAT Sec. State, it is Joe Biden. Wes Clark for Sec. Def. and some vote-getter for VP.

He would not be a waste, he is President material. I just went back over his performances during the primaries (debates). He is pretty fiery. I like that :)

I agree procrustes... not that Biden is a waste, but Hillary would make the better mobilzer of Democrats. We've got to get elected first. 'Bama will also need a strong Senate. Biden is better there where he is.

I'm hoping its Hillary.
