Harrylouise

In 1993, the Health Insurance Association of America aired an ad featuring Harry and Louise, a couple confused by Bill and Hillary Clinton's bureaucratic health care plan. The ad is credited with helping kill universal health care. Now the couple is back, but this time health care reform is their top priority:

Ad expensive "victory" for the universal coverage crowd. How many Americans needlessly suffered and died between the two Harry and Louise commercial versions due to lack of access to health care?

A high price for the privilege of saying "I told you so." Thank you Newt Gingrich and the GOP.

This time 56% of the Fortune 500 Company CEOs want a single payer system and 56% of the DOCs do and 70% of the American people do...

The American people want the inusrnace companies out of the mix. They are 50% of the cost... a very expensive middleman.. Wal-Mart got rid of the middleman... we have to do it in healthcare.

And we have to regulate drugs prices. Its not a free market when we are the only country that does not and we end up payingg 3-5 times more for the same drug and subsidize our competitors healtchare.. costiing us more jobs.

But of course no politician is propsing that!

McCains Plan is to eleminate your 20K of employer health insurance and give you a 4K tax credit... duh? Whats worng with that picture. McCain and his freinds are so out of touch they dont know what healthcare insurance cost for a family. Of course theirs is paid by the govenment.. thats you.

Regards

and gee, had harry & louise supported single payer healthcare back '93 they might not be so concerned about their fictitous neighbor's cancer-since he'd be getting treatment and not being put through the insurance mill.

Life, Liberty and the Pursuite of Happyness.

One cannot have Liberty and Pursue Happyness without life and as such quality of life cannot be increased so long as we have healthcare insurance corps that ream the people

Mc Same says he wants to imitate the French with Nuclear Power. Well Old Yeller, if you want to imitate the French, the UK, Australia, and Canada, put universal healthcare on your platform.

Well, yes, because, according to McFrancais, "we all want to be like the French!"

I don't.

He's made that same tired comment several times now and I always wonder: "who is he polling?" Is there some secret French enclave out there waiting to come out from the shadows?? Honestly, have you--or anyone you know--ever sat around wishing you could be like the French??

(I have nothing against France or her people, but McCain's "observation" is so ridiculous. On the whole, I don't give a rip about the French and I certainly don't strive to be more like them!)

I have been working since I was 16 and am now 59 and yes the French have a number of things I would give my right arm for.

Time to spend with your family - 6 weeks every year
Freedom from fear of healthcare costs - priceless
Good Pensions when they retire at 57
Tax credits for commuting expenses
Child care when the child turns 3 years old
Annual Cash subsidies for children
Decent transportation system so the annual expense of $6000 per car is not needed.
Free college and graduate education

For us in the working class these are priceless!!! Yes the taxes are higher on the top 10%, just like they were here in the 50s when the economy was really strong!

I posted this in an article yesterday...

My wife works with a company that works with pharmaceutical company software. They receive various messages periodically regarding various health issues. Today, the headline issue was regarding McCain's health care plan.

http://www.ahiphiwire.org/News/Default.aspx?doc_id=193259&page=1

The most important issue I got out of this was, after all the healthy people drop their company health plans, insurance companies would be left with only the very sick. Eventually, they would not be able to operate anymore. So over time, no more company health insurance plans would exist.

At that point, the very sick would not be able to find anyone to insure them, leaving us in a worse situation we are in now.

Bottom line is, McCain's plan would completely destroy health care in the U.S. for a large percentage of the U.S.

The article is worth reading and you can come to numerous conclusions about various issues brought up in the article. Enjoy

I read the article (interesting reading). On the last page there was a comment about the "frills" currently covered such as infertility. As someone who has experienced this facet of our health care system, I can tell you that it is a bold faced lie. Most insurers provide almost no coverage for infertility and as a matter of fact, use it as a pre-existing condition to deny coverage for other things later.

Basically, sticking with the same insurance company system we have now, the only way to buy cheaper insurance will be to reduce the amount of coverage you get. Insurance companies are out to make money, which in and of itself is not a bad thing. However, this encourages collecting as much as possible while paying out as little as possible.

"He who establishes his argument by noise and command shows that his reason is weak." -- Jean Baptiste Poquelin Moliere
Too bad they didn't understand then what they do now. Just goes to show that even a 17th century Frenchman knew more about life than Harry and Louise - and their handlers.

Thank you insurance companies for once again reminding us what greedy self-serving jerks you are.
