Iran has banned an award-winning young actress from leaving the country over her appearance in a star-studded Hollywood production, the state news agency IRNA said on Wednesday.

"Golshifteh Farahani was banned from leaving by the authorities at the airport on Tuesday when she was about to leave for Hollywood to examine a new offer," IRNA said quoting an informed source.

The state agency said the decision was prompted by her starring in Ridley Scott's latest movie "Body of Lies" with Hollywood heartthrobs Leonardo DiCaprio and Russell Crowe.

People, the movie is coming out before december. It's been done for some time. They're making it sound as if this just happened. It didn't

Wow she's really pretty. Plus she probably doesn't have that poor American attitude of selfishness and anger. I want that.

If one cannot stand up to a tyranical/religious government, they deserve to suffer. I would not listen to fascists. If she can't join Leonardo, I will (: .

Her loss, my gain. Call me Leo.

Well.... I guess one has to admire Iran for putting its acting talent where its mouth is... it would be hypocritical for her to work in a Hollywood movie when they detest us/our lifestyle so much.

Now, the question is: is there really no American actress of Iranian descent living in this country that wouldn't love this opportunity? Could Hollywood really not find local talent for this role? (Although, I am sure if Hollywood suits had their way, Jolie would be cast in the role.)

Why don't we send DiCaprio over there to live.
Fair deal.

Time to defect. I'm sure she'd make more $$ just appearing on "Law and Order" whenever they need an attractive Middle Eastern woman.

Let's see, crazy country:

Iran: the people there have very little say as to who their leader will be.

USA: the people vote to choose their leader.

USA's leader: Bush.

Which country is crazy?

Maybe this will prompt her and other women in that crazy country to leave and stop wearing that ridiculous head gear.

Actually, I think the way she's wearing it is rather attractive and a good balance between tradition and modern, without being too traditionalist. I find the full body and head outfits too disturbing, but understand it as a freedom of expression issue, even though it is totally counter to freedom and of expression. in the local context. But frankly some women prefer to wear it. No way of saying if the majority life it or hate it, and what motivates them to wear it? Fear or faith?

Iran is a crazy country, and many have left (unfortunately a lot of them progressives). But then again the US is a crazy country, and I know more people than we expect have left, or want to leave if they knew anything beyond our own borders (other than Canada and Mexico).

Of course, you've got a right to your opinions. I find the same retching impulse when I see big fat Americans with their beer gut hanging out from under a t-shirt with an imprint of the American flag and some silly jingoistic (or sexist) slogan swigging a beer and waving a flag in front of parades celebrating freedom when its such a narrow thing to many of them (that is, freedom is being able to get drunk and ride around on their Harleys or something).

But that's just me. You might actually like that type of gear.

Actually, as a woman, there have often been times that I wished I had "that ridiculous head gear." It's very annoying and frustrating to have to walk down the street each day and get yelled at by creeps like you.

Maybe women in our country will stop abusing their bodies for the crazy fake boobies. It is much easier to take off a scarf.

Note: Just because I think attacking them would be a bad idea doesn't mean I like them.

I realize you guys don't do nuance, but there is a wide range of options between "I like them and want to be like them" and "We should bomb them back to stone age, preferably starting this afternoon".

You can do that. But there is still no need for war.

Btw, why is Saudiarabia ok but not Iran?

Iran is heaven for women compared to Saudi Arabia. Read a book.
