British band Oasis gets back to its stripped-down rock roots on its upcoming album, "Dig Out Your Soul."

Due October 7 via Big Brother/Warner Bros., the 11-track set from the famously sparring Gallagher brothers is led by the strident rocker "The Shock of the Lightning," which is already racking up airplay well ahead of its late September release date.

The album begins with the two-chord dirge "Bag It Up," harking back to "Columbia," from the band's 1994 debut, "Definitely Maybe." It's followed by the insistent "The Turning," which winds its way down to "Blackbird"-style finger-picking and the sounds of passing traffic and car alarms.

oasis will release 2 cuts on 7" vinyl before "dig out your soul" on oct 29. they could creep into the oasis set this weekend at the leeds festival. mission to burma "red", and brits athlete and the editors have strong fairly new releases. brand new hawthorne heights "fragile future" restates their pre-eminence after the loss of casey calvert. the academy is dropped "fast times at barrington high" 3 days ago. it's as good as "santi"
oasis 7" in pre-release

too bad "the ego has landed" was already taken. They are so full of themselves and nothing to back it up.

I love oasis - and the new tracks sound great - but they've not been the same band since bonehead left.

Examples, please? I think you might mean Liam - Noel is actually quite humble these days. Oh, and it's "bollocks" not "bullocks";)

Cheers.

Yeah! I love Oasis. They used to be my favorite band. Um..they've had hits in the US when they were very popular. I'm not sure what you're talking about, situationcritical. The only people who have hits now are rappers and pop stars. Rock bands rarely have hit albums or records anymore.

I understand it's working title was "Waiting for a Hit in the USA".

Yep. It's a shame - they're actually one of my favorite bands, great roots-rock with a wink to all the UK bands that preceded them (Beatles, Stones, The Who, Sex Pistols). Too bad we in the good ole' USA have drivel like Rhianna? and karoke acts like Kelly Clarkson dominating the charts. Though the UK does have their share of crap pop bands ( I do like Coldplay, however) IMHO, they've always had better musical tastes and better bands dominating the charts than the US. And just for the record, if you're a fan of good solid guitar driven rock music, check out OASIS's last album "Don't believe the truth" - it's brilliant.
