Mccain On Biden

Politico.com:

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) told Katie Couric of CBS News on Saturday that Sen. Joseph Biden (D-Del.) is a "formidable" but "wise" choice for the Democratic ticket.

Couric, anchor and managing editor of the "CBS Evening News," sat down with McCain at his cabin in Sedona, Ariz., hours after Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) announced his choice.

I found it interesting that McCain characterizes Obama as too young and too inexperienced while embracing Theodore Roosevelt as his (McCain's) role model. Theodore Roosevelt was 42 years old when he became president, 5 years younger than Obama is now.

Focus on the Family James Dobson said this about McCain...
"The Senator," Dobson said, "is being touted by the media as a man of principle, yet he was involved with other women while married to his first wife, and was implicated in the so-called Keating scandal with four other senators. He was eventually reprimanded by the Congress for the 'appearance of impropriety.' The Senator reportedly has a violent temper and can be extremely confrontational and profane when angry. These red flags about Senator McCain's character are reminiscent of the man who now occupies the White House."

What interesting is that Cindy McCain's father did EXACTLY what McCain did. Got shot down, went to hospital to recover, met someone, divorced his first wife and rarely if ever saw his daughter from that marriage again. That was 1945.

Following his discharge in 1945, Hensley and his brother went back to work and in 1948, both brothers were prosecuted by the federal government and convicted of falsifying liquor records to conceal illegal distribution of whiskey against post-war rationing regulations. Jim Hensley received a six-month suspended sentence while his brother received a year in federal prison. In 1953, Jim Hensley and Marley were charged by federal prosecutors with falsifying liquor records. Defended by future Supreme Court Justice William Rehnquist, they were acquitted.

There's lots more ...

Loved that. I especially liked when Wolf was trying to get an Hil lary or O bama endorsement and Joe said (I'm paraphrasing) "like I told you before, no I won't, I will work hard to make sure either one is president)". Well done, Bid en! And ironically enough, he will!

I recall one of the Dixie Chicks got death threats when she told an English audience she was personally ashamed that Bush was from Texas. Then Bush goes before the Israeil parliament and accuses his critics of appeasement. I thought the rule was that politics stopped at the water's edge.

Interestingly enough, the Israeli government started talks/negotiations with the Syrians shortly after Bush left Israel. Presumably, that made them appeasers as well.

With Biden now on the ticket, McCain is in a serious bind and it is very gratifying. The field for McCain running mate is VERY thin. Crist would not really be a bad choice, but the gay rumor, which may not be fair, won't go away. So he's probably out. Romney would add a lot of liabilities to the ticket and exacerbate existing problems. Not many pluses here: Mittens wouldn't make a dent in solid blue MA, won't make a difference really out west because most Mormons vote GOP anyway, and he can't guarantee Michigan. MI won't help McCain anyway if he loses VA and FL because of anti-Mormon bigotry on the part of southern conservatives. He is more disciplined and articulate than McCain, so it may help there. Pawlenty is probably the best choice here. He's a lightweight who would be shredded by Biden and while he MIGHT put MN in play, even then Obama wins there by 2-3%. Any other choice on the radar would be political suicide. Any pro-choice or Bush-related VP for obvious reasons would not work, Jindal fatally undercuts the only halfway decent argument they have against Obama, and Sarah Palin would make McCain look like the Crypt Keeper. I expect he'll pick Romney. Not the best pick, but then again if Republicans always did the right thing we would not be in the mess we're in.

Well, no matter how big a ditch he digs himself into, he can always count on Couric to save him from himself. It's almost like he's her dear old grandfather. A shill and her granpa.....touching.

McCain pulled out his "GET-OUT-OF-JAIL-FREE" card AGAIN!

McCain:
“I am grateful for the fact that I have a wonderful life,” “I SPENT SOME YEARS WITHOUT A KITCHEN TABLE, WITHOUT A CHAIR..."

Then he really tells a whopper:

McCain:
"Cindy's father, ...went off and distinguished himself in World War II in a B-17 and came back with practically nothing and REALIZED THE AMERICAN DREAM,"

[Cindy's dad came back and dumped his first wife for Cindy's mom]

McCain (continued)
"... and I am proud and grateful for that, and I think he is a role model to many young Americans who serve in the military and come back and succeed.

(Is this why McCain dumped his crippled first wife?)

That's what he calls SUCCESS?

(NPR) "Cindy McCain's Half Sister 'Angry' She's Hidden"
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=93708729

Here's what McCain calls "realizing the American dream":

"The Hensley family was involved with some of the most notorious... crimes committed in the state of Arizona, primarily the bombing and murder of Arizona Republic reporter, Don Bolles, and it’s on the edge, but it’s there. The key guy in the Hensley empire was ... Kemper Marley. Kemper Marley was a liquor magnate. ... Marley was implicated-–—never charged—in the murder of Bolles, and it was Marley who basically gave the liquor franchise to Hensley back in the 1950’s, and that built their empire from there."

After the interview, John excused himself and went to work on the plan for mud slinging at Joe B with Steve Schmidt.... Steve suggested a long list of rumors to start, which are being matched to various 527s... also, Jerome Corsi was called.

Is this payback for Couric covering his ass with actually CHANGING HIS ANSWER in the last interview?

I'll bet he wishes he did the original "how many homes?" interview with her, so she could have edited in a better answer for him.

And I notice he still doesn't specify the number of homes--just "four" and "the rest for investment purposes".

Yes, Senator. Those count, too.

HOW. MANY?

I think Romney is smimey, arrogant, and a better politico than a real thinker.

But I think he would also be a formidable opponent, and it would make for good TV.

I would hope he would drop his old talking points like "the threat of radical, violent jihad," and don't think he'll bring Michigan, or Massachusetts, or help in the South, or among Catholics, or Evangelicals, or working class men and women. But he would make for good TV, and the VP debate would at least be interesting.

I remember Romney, the elder, when he was Governor of Michigan and I was a high-school boy. Trust me, folks, we do NOT want a Romney in office. Period. And, with a messed-up guy like McCain with him?!

RUN the other way.

(I canNOT stress this enough!)

Did Couric to the interview before or after she gave McCain a hummer?
