Abortion Protester Interrupts DNC Meeting: "Obama Supports Black Genocide" (VIDEO)

Convention Center, Denver -- By far the most visible conservative protesters at the DNC have been pro-life activists, who seem to have representatives at all the major events, meetings, and parties.

The first gathering of the DNC African-American caucus this morning was interrupted twice by anti-abortion protesters yelling, "Obama supports black genocide!" Police sprinted down into the audience to grab the men while the crowd shouted them down with Obama chants.

The charismatic former Denver mayor Wellington Webb spoke shortly after the first outburst. "There was a time when we couldn't have meetings because the police wouldn't protect us," he said to applause. "This time, someone interrupts the meeting, and the police take them out. And they weren't coming for us!"

Also from Webb: "Can you imagine a White House listening to Jay-Z and all the rest? That's too much to ask for." And on why he has to applaud President Bush: "He has destroyed once and for all the myth of white superiority."

The common thread of the event, though, were the (sometimes very emotional) testimonials about how meaningful Obama's candidacy and the convention were. Speaking about Michelle Obama's speech tonight, one speaker said, "There's finally going to be a First Lady who looks like me."

Oh, so THIS protester gets a headline at HuffPo, while Amy Goodman, Glenn Greenwald, and Jane Hamsher's attempts to interview the invitees to a bash thrown by AT&T for Blue Dog Dems to thank them for the corrupt legislation that removed civil liability for AT&T's illegal wiretaps of American citizens doesn't?

This is a repub wedge issue. The fact is that every year many more White and Latina Americans recieve abortions by Planned Parenthood. There is no Black Genocide via Planned Parenthood. The only American Made Black Genocide that no one wants to talk about is hundreds of thousands of Black Men and boys who are miseducated and incarcerated and the thousands who are killed by city cops all over this country each year.

I am glad the police were there to take them out. This is not the time nor the place. This is a serious mark in History and we have lived to be a part of it. He is only one man and he can't be everything to everybody. I am a 42yr old african american woman and I am very proud of Obama and his vision for this country and I am very proud that there are some people out there who can look beyond skin color and see the vision of this man.

Reagan was "pro-life" and so was Bush and Bush junior.
Their only real progress on pushing this agenda was to stuff ultra-conservatives on the Supreme Court.

Obama’s approach is to find the common ground between pro-life and pro-choice--we need to prevent more unwanted pregnancies from occuring in the first place.

That means education, readily available contraception alternatives, and community connections that help give women and men the type of guidance and support and examples that they need. We need to look out for one another better. Young people engage in risky sexual behaviour as a way of acting out--reach out to them instead.

So often we work so hard to give our children the THINGS we wished we had ourselves, that we forget that what they need most is love and attention. Work a maximum of a 40 hour week so you can spend as much time as possible with your kids. Take them on walks with your or take them on a drive so that you can be away from all the distractions and connect with them.
Governement cannot solve the real problem of unwanted pregnancies--it is up to us.

Roe V Wade was a terrible decision. Whether one is pro choice or pro life, any honest look at the case can lead only to the conclusion that it was a horrible decision.

It is because of Roe that we can't "come together" on this issue. It was taken from us and a policy forced on us from an unelected, unacountable court.

If we, the people, were allowed to decide this issue it could never again be the wedge issue it is today.

This "Black Genocide" argument has to be the product of a bunch of white men. I have been a reproductive rights activist for more than 30 years. I've spent a lot of time inside abortion clinics. I would love to see one of these protestors tell a poor black woman with 4 young children why she shouldn't have an abortion. I would like to see what they would say to the 14 year old girl who was pregnant by an older family friend that she should have the baby (never mind high school). These are the same people who perpetuate the myth of the "Welfare Queen" and who want to CUT assistance to poor women with families.
I don't understand why black people aren't outraged by these "Black Genocide" protestors. It is as though they are saying that black people aren't smart enough to make their own, very personal decision about whether to terminate a pregnancy and that we need to somehow "protect them" from themselves!
