Politico:

As Democrats arrived here Sunday for a convention intended to promote party unity, mistrust and resentments continued to boil among top associates of presumptive nominee Barack Obama and his defeated rival, Hillary Rodham Clinton.

One flashpoint is the assigned speech topic for former president Bill Clinton, who is scheduled to speak Wednesday night, when the convention theme is "Securing America's Future." The night's speakers will argue that Obama would be a more effective commander in chief than his Republican rival, Sen. John McCain (Ariz.).

The former president is disappointed, associates said, because he is eager to speak about the economy and more broadly about Democratic ideas -- emphasizing the contrast between the Bush years and his own record in the 1990s.

HuffPo editors, please take this story down, it has been debunked. "Barack Obama has said that Bill Clinton can talk about whatever he wants."

Well America will know if Bill is really a true democrat are was the party for him just a means to and end. I just can't see him devoting so much of his life to this party and would try and sabotage it for his own personal gain. He is a democratic icon lets hope he lives up to this title.

bill clinton=spoiled man-child, who pouts when he's not the center of attention. once the election is over, when barack wins, i'd roll both of them under the bus.

I am not happy with the way the Clintons have behaved lately.

Having said that, Bill is right.
The American people are more concerned about the economy right now.
McCain is weakest on the economy.
Bill should be allowed to tie economic security to physical security.
He is one of the greatest speakers I have ever seen.
He should be allowed to speak on whatever he wants.

And I never voted for Clinton. Either one.

I voted for Clinton. Because he was the DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE and not because he was my first choice. I never thought he was that great of a speaker. His manner just hits the wrong note with me. Of all the democratic candidates in the debates, I thought he came off as the used car salesmen, and that Paul "I'm no Santa Claus" Tsongas was the Guy.

On the other hand, I didn't think Kennedy gave that great of a speech. It was great to see him. He looked good. His speech was so-so and did nothing for me.

I don't need a cheerleader. I loved Michelle's speech because it was personal, genuine, and added to the dialogue of who the Obamas are.

I'll watch the speeches, but my take is that nothing that Bill says is going to add anything to the candidate or the party. It's just going to get everybody talking about whether or not he is over his anger and disappointment some more. Personally, I'd rather hear Edwards. About the same type of distraction, only I think Edwards is a moe engaging speaker.

Compare Carter to Clinton and what images come to mind. You can argue that Carter's presidency was not the greatest but look at post presidencies and there is no contest. The Clintons and there gang of hacks are true poison. There behavior makes you wonder if Clinton is trying purposely to ruin his legacy. What they fail to see is that they are setting up themselves for true failure. If Obama loses does Hillary really think she will get any support from African Americans like myself the next go around. Heck, If Bloomberg decides to run for the senate she might be grave danger in loosing her seat.

Why can't he just talk about what he feels would be best? He has to be "assigned" a topic, like a second grader? He's a very effective speaker. Let him talk.

So Bill wants to talk about "ME, ME, ME." What else is new?

I can't wait until Bill takes Obama's call and has to say, "Yes, Mr. PRESIDENT."

As for Hillary, I'm trying to give her the benefit of the doubt. We'll know tomorrow if it's deserved.

I don't trust the Clintons any farther than I can throw them!!! Remember, they're NEVER going to get over it. They will DO ANYTHING to get what they want!!! God help us if someone is added to the "CL... List!!!"

Get over it ,Bill the best person won and this is not about you. Don't like it stay home and take the negative neysayers like Pat Buchanon and the like with you. All of you can be in a room together providing comfort to each other fearing a black man in the white house.

The Obama-Biden ticket will kick some royal b_ _ t.

Why is Bill Clinton so insecure of his legacy? Bush made sure that Bill got more credit than he probably deserved. Someone had to take over the democratic party at some point. It just happened to be Obama versus his own wife. His legacy will be in doldrums if he doesn't help Obama in key states.

I would not be unhappy if his flight was diverted to Minneapolis.

I am just so sick of the Clintons, as well as the denial of the Dems in keep saying how there is no problem and the party "will be" united. Time is running out. Where's the sense of party urgency?!!

Stop letting Clintonites sabotage OUR COUNTRY. Do they have any idea of what 4 more years of McSame would do to us?

God forbid Bill Clinton should be asked to speak at a convention where the first non-white person ever will be nominated, on the anniversary of MLK's "I Have a Dream" speech, and not make his speech all about how great he is and his presidency was.

The nerve of Barack Obama for expecting Bill Clinton to think of someone other than Bill Clinton on a night that is so important to Obama and so historic for our country.

Bill Clinton: Its all about me, me, me. He still wants to be the center of attention. Even when his wife was running everything was about him him, him. He cannot accept his time has passed and its time for new blood. I regret how much I used to like and respect him, its always sad when you don't respect a person anymore.
