With the Republican National Convention set to kick off Sept. 1 in Minneapolis-St. Paul, The Daily Show With Jon Stewart has already kicked off efforts to welcome GOP delegates to the Twin Cities.

Having arrived just yesterday in Minneapolis (for the Minnesota State Fair, of course, not the convention), I can report that the Comedy Central show has erected a can't-miss-it billboard off of I-494 that greets motorists leaving the MSP airport. Beneath a photo of the Daily Show crew is the salutation: "Welcome, rich white oligarchs."

And yet, Stewart's billboard didn't have either one of his shows two black cast members. Just the one Indian guy. . . . . so was that part of the joke?

Four of the five richest people in Congress are Dems.

All of the party brass for the Dems are very rich people, just like with the Repubs. Dems also take money form the same lobbyists Repubs do, Obama included.

This whole wealth hating thing isn't winning Obama any votes, and I'll remind you that Obama made $4 million last year himself.

If Obama made just another million, McCain would consider him rich. Yes, there are rich Democrats, but the difference is that most of them have a sense of noblesse oblige. Most rich Republicans appear to be guided only by greed and self-interest.

Oligarchy is not just rich, white and elitest..MOE, they are also a ruling class that rules for corrupt purposes of self enrichment... now tell you don't see Cheney and fatboy Rove when you hear that.

As to Obama, he's the childen of a single mom who made his way through school and worked hard for everything he has. Same with Biden, who is by most standards the senator of the most modest means in the entire US Senate.

Again, tell me you can't picture fat little Piggy Rove with his big puffed face when you say Oligarch...it's almost as if you can hear the OINK! OINK! now.....

1. hey its their money they can put it where they want

2. no one owns wealth, it is constantly changing hands

3. there were no tax cuts for the wealthy, they were tax rate reductions affecting everybody.

God bless Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert! True American iconoclasts. They are media revolutionaries, and far better than anyone in the MSM.

So, when do we get to see Jon doing actual on-site investigating and reporting?

How about letting Jon or Stephen interview the candidates, or even moderate a panel?

as well as the cast, executives, producers and writers of the 'The Daily Show'....

GOP delegation is charged doing what is best for Americans and America; see the difference?

Steward/Cobert private citizens; GOP ask for our votes, trust and in exchange they pledge to think of us first.

Yeah, they think of us first when their trash needs to be taken out from their houses (how many is it again, I don't know, let me ask my staff?), or when their lawn needs to be cut, or they need us to go catch bullets for them in Iraq (sure, support the troops, but God help them if they're injured, given the deplorable conditions at Walter Reed - much like the opinion that the Repub prolife viewpoint begins at conception and ends at childbirth, apparently support for the Armed Services begins at deployment and ends at casualty). Do they think of us when they continue to make it easier to outsource jobs to other countries so the CEO's can improve their bottom lines at the expense of lost American jobs?

Yeah, I can just feel the love...

I watched the first hour of the RNC...Lord!! Give them Sustacal or whatever! They are OLD, entrenched in the past and waving flags on what WAS. This country has grown, and diversified, and evolved past that pathetic point of being caught up in the Vietnam/Korea/Iraq fiasco! GROW UP!!! Can we focus on being a global leader rather than a country that is so backward we think that abstinence is the answer to teenage hormones? SEX is a part of life! I don't want to see anymore old warriors telling me that it's the only way to deal with conflict...

I can't watch that drivel any more. My one consolation is that since they are so OLD, it's just a matter of time. I can't fix the white, and the oligarch part, but methinks it goes with the mind set. This too shall pass. I just don't know if I have the patience!!!

But it could also read: Plutocracy or Theocracy or Stratocracy or Timocracy or Theodemocracy or my favorite, Kleptocracy.

That's REFRIGERATOR white oligarchs.

Rich white oligarchs is redundant.

Someone I used to room with in college was driving me through the streets of his home town Minneapolis once, telling me that there's no racism here because there are hardly any blacks.

Except this was a native american part of town we were driving through, and the street poverty was like--overwhelmingly obvious. So I asked, "well what do you call THIS then?"

"Oh them? They're just indians."

How does poverty show racism?
