I'm actually somewhat glad he's not showing up for O's acceptance speech because him yelling foul to O and accusing him of painting him as a racist during the primaries will be null and void. What bigger slap in the face to african americans than the former president, they supported in a landslide twice refusing to show up to one if not the most historical events of our country's election process.

This is the reason I do not trust Biliary. They reach out one hand to shake yours while under cutting you with the other hand. Just as O indicated during the primaries, that at times he couldn't figure out which of the clintons he was running against. Now, stays home to pout like a kid, or maybe he's leaking this lie to the press just to generate media attention. I can't wait until Nov 4. I am sooooooooooooo sick of the Clintons.

I really don't understand how he could leave her at a time like this,
He knows how much this election meant to her. You think he would stay by
her side and be the soft shoulder she needs right now He is more than
selfish.

I didn't exactly expect Bill to be a team player...it is not a character trait he has ever displayed, whether in his personal or public life, to my knowledge.

How unfortunate that he would choose to reinforce my perception of him so publically.

I don't know if I am terribly let down, or happy he stays away!
I think I am let down, since I did in fact vote for Bill twice, although I think him lying about his sexual dealings hurt the democratic party greatly.

I think over him not showing up, hurts people and leaves an opening for McCain to suggest the former president does not trust him.

I think Bill Clinton plays like he is champion for the middle class, but secretly is an elitest!

Just look ahis dealings!

Bill Clinton is wrong!

vicbennett: I wonder if Obama (while running an economically efficient, stellar campaign) has paid back Hillary's reckless debt (the millions "borrowed" to her from her) yet. Maybe if Obama pays up, Bill will show up. I agree with you that the Clintons are elitists, but I don't think it's much of a secret.

I would tend to be happy that he's staying away. His temper tantrums (exceeding the fiercest 2-year-old I've ever seen) and bad vibes/karma have no place in this wonderful, hope-filled, history-making event.

As far as leaving McCain and opening to suggest ANYTHING negative, Hillary gave McCain plenty of ammo during the primary (some of which is already coming back to bite her in the butt), but I suppose if you're a bitter, jealous, entitled-feeling politician, there's no such thing as too much negativity.

When you mention him lying and hurting the democratic party, I think you rose a very important point. For the last 16 years (at least), American presidents have been the source of a great deal of embarrassment for America, particularly Bush. Americans don't like dynasties; we like to feel our votes count (whether they do or not).

Obama is neither a Bush nor a Clinton. That alone is a huge improvement!

I hope Bill does nothing to take away from Hillary's speech last night; she has been damaged enough by him. I know I wasn't the only one that noticed she left out "I'm a wife" in the beginning of her speech. Bill can now determine her political future by his speech tonight; please don't blow it Bill!!

I just hope he doesn't use his speech tonight to elaborate on his bizarre statement about who is "Candidate X" and who is "Candidate Y," and taking the opportunity to nominate Hillary in the process.

It ain't over till it's over, and I personally will feel a lot better once election day has come and gone, with President Obama's family intact, unharmed and healthy.

There is lots of praise for Hillary's speech and call for unity to elect Obama. Evidently, it fell on deaf ears where it counted most, based on reports that Clinton will not attend Obama's acceptance speech. It seems very petty and demeaning to the stature of a former president.

The NYT resports today "...Mr. Clinton remains angrier than people realize about the Obama campaign’s portrayal of his wife as deceitful and of his administration as middling and his political tactics as, at times, racially charged. "
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/27/us/politics/27DEMSDAY.html?_r=1&hp=&pagewanted=all&oref=slogin

So is the Clintons' strategy to counteract each other? Hillary will say what needs to so she can try to get back in good graces with the Democrats she has badly alienated, and Bill will roll his eyes and say "Don't believe her."

If Bill leaves Denver before congratulating Obama the nominee in person and in public, he will be abdicating his postition of leadership in the Democratic party. He already abidcated his role as 'senior statesment" by turning partisan political hack in the primaries and by selling influence to the highest bidders internationally, without sufficient regard to our nation's national interests.

The best thing for Obama, the party and the nation after Denver would be for both Clintons to shut up and disappear.

Really? Do we really need this right now? C'mon, Bill. It's not about you.

Everything is about Bill. And nothing is enough. He was a governor, two-term president, turned it all into a mega-million fortunre, travels the nation and the world on tax-exempt funds, is wined and dined, and, by all reports, he enjoys having an open marriage,. But Bill is the eternal victim. Did anyone doubt that not amount of media time or adulation in Denver would be sufficient. Bill will leave in a huff fealing neglected and disrespected.

Can the Democratic party and the nation finnaly move on and leave this bitter, aging man behind?

Bill did far more damage to Al Gore's presidential chances than Obama did by winning the primary against HRC. Bill has never offered even a token apology to Gore. Rather Bill delighted in snide remarks about the mistakes Gore made in his campaign, the biggest one - according to Bill- was not asking Bill to campaign for him. Gore has far too much class and is too statesmanlike to indulge in the red-faced whining, carping and self-pitying which oozes from Bill non-stop.
Jimmy Carter also has a low opinion of Bill. As Carter said, the Clintons were always there when they needed you.
If HRC had become Obama's VP, Bill would have been constantly second-guessing, criticizing and whining that Obama wasn't giving HRC the kind of high profile assignments which would allow her to run for future offices. We doubtless would have heard the same whining and carping from the pseudo-feminists who are still refusing to back Obama. They would insist she have as much power as Cheney. But unlike Cheney she would be high profile, all the time. If HRC wants another run at the presidency, either she needs to divorce Bill, or he needs to immediately stop the highly profitable business deals with shady Middle East and Eastern Europe characters, to stop the overseas, Canadian and West Coast womanizing and wild parties with his rich buddies on their private jets, and to let his wife fight her own political battles

Who cares?

Can we ignore the Clintons soon? Jesus.
