***WATCH ROUND 2: SCARBOROUGH V. SHUSTER***

Monday night during MSNBC's convention coverage, Joe Scarborough was describing the surge John McCain has been experiencing in the polls over the last few weeks — but Keith Olbermann didn't want to hear it. Scarborough caught him mocking the suggestion, at which point the "Morning Joe" host rattled off a bunch of poll numbers defending his point and making the case that the McCain camp "has dug out of a grave" and "if this convention had been held two weeks ago, it would've been more of a coronation than a convention."

Olbermann and Chris Matthews scoffed at the suggestion that the race is close, with Matthews asking, "Are we done?"

I disagree with the article’s characterization of Chris’ remarks asking “Are we done?” following Joe’s comments. The article asserts that Chris was thereby scoffing at the race being close. Rather than a reference to the race or Joe's commentary, it seems to me he was merely referring to the apparent minor gaff in the direction of the show; having left the camera on a silent Joe for an uncomfortably long length of time (whereas it should have gone back to Chris; perhaps Joe forgot to toss it back?) led Chris to ask "Are we done?" referring to Joe's segment and nothing more.
Keith obviously is a different story; he cannot see past his own nose. The best part: the Palin bump proved Joe’s commentary to be right-on!

wow you guys are all putz's god forbid some one (Joe) doesnt go along with the Liberal agenda you say go to Fox. People complain about fox being biased is it just because its not the bias they want ? i think so because ive never seen anyone as bias as Olbermann. His worst people in the world column has featured Mccain a few times. How can you be balanced and say one of the Candidates is "The worst person in the world" Olbermann is a joke and i expected more from mathews but they got what they deserved and were given the Boot. Dont say go to Fox just because you dont like the fact that someone refuted olbermann far left bull crap

Joe is too good to be part of that crowd. That is why Keith and Chris got canned.

Morning Joe....what a godawful way to start the day.
No wonder with people like him and those other yowling heads over at Faux, so many people run around ticked off most of the time.

Are you talking about Andrea Mitchell?

Jeez, at least learn to spell, unless you're a member of the right, in which case you're fine.

It's a shame Keith O and Chris M can no longer be anchoring Election Night programming

A large enough sample makes confidence intervals (happiness) increase. All sampling has error, sampling error, non-sampling error etc. There is a margin of error resulting from sampling, and polling is sampling. So, when a sufficient number is part of the sample, the margin of error will result, as in 5%, 3%, or something else. The better the sampling, the better (lower) the margin of error (MOE). The important part of this discussion is what to do with the results from the polling - so, let's begin; A and B are candidates. The poll says A got 45, B got 42% respectively, in time period 1. So, with A getting 45%, and with a MOE of, say, 3%, the "cone of uncertainty" (remember your hurricane projections?) will be 48/42. Mr. B got 42, so he has 45/39. Alright so far? That's for period #1. On to 2, and 3, and 4. A got 47, 49 and 44; B got 44, 41 and 45, in the next three polling periods. First question - has there been a change in either candidate? Second question - if so, whom does it favor? First period shows no change, second period likewise, but the third period as well as the fourth indicate change. A appears to have gained significantly in period 3, while B rebounded significantly in period 4. It is less important in any one period to see any significance than it is by looking at the differences between periods. All right? Class dismissed.

According to Joe, his own party doesn't even like him. No wonder he like John McCain so much...birds of a feather.

Gosh it was nice when Joe S. was on vacation. I actually started watching Morning Joe again during that time. He's gone beyond the pale, too many times.

Between him ranting and Buchanan screaming over everyone, it's too stressful to watch.

MargaretO, I have to agree with you!!! I always watch "Morning Joe", mainly because I just can't stomach any of the other morning shows, but it was BLISS when he was on vacation!!!!

This morning, 9-10-08 was SAD, SAD, SAD!!!! Both Mika and Willie were gone and the show was HORRIBLE!!! MMMMMMMM, who's the star here?????

I love Keith and Chris, even though I do believe Chris could just have his show where he were the only guest, since he answers his own questions, but I still like him.

The boys were just reacting honestly and I like that about them. The commentators on FAUX news are so biased it's nauseating, and their folks think they are just grand, although I don't know how ANYONE can stand Bill O'Riley???? ( maybe even his own mother!!!!)

This is not a story. When you have this many strong personalities with big egos, trying to cover a huge event, what else can you expect? At least it's not the scripted wake over at CNN. Jeez -- now THAT's a bore. Give me fireworks any day.

Thanks for the reality check, sis! Randi Rhodes was just talking about how she avoids the "talking heads" and tries to watch the events themselves. Hard to know what's best, considering that one HOPES that certain Heads may make observations and select things to make observations on that are sympathetic with your own perspective.
