U.S. Sen. John Kerry, the last Democrat to accept a presidential nomination, and his wife, Teresa Heinz, sat down with PolitickerMA.com Monday to reflect upon their experience in 2004 and talk about what this year's nominee, Barack Obama, can expect.

Speaking in a private room of a restaurant in the ornate Brown Plaza Hotel in Denver, Kerry said the convention went by so quickly, he didn't have a moment to reflect on the significance of the event.

"Well, I wish there was time for a kind of introspection; that would be very sweet and enjoyable," Kerry said. "But frankly, you're so focused, and so it's so much a part of the continuum that you don't have time for that kind of introspection. You just don't."

I was not engaged in the political process four years ago. Like millions of americans I have finally tuned into politics and i'm addicted. I've heard the John Kerry rumors about why he lost, but from what I've seen this year this guy has 10x more character than John McCain.

To be sure, I think Hillary Clinton should have run in 2004. She would have won.

I voted for Kerry in 2004. He wasn't Bush. That was about exciting as it got.

But boy, has Kerry bloomed. He's really got (and I hate this term - but I didn't invent it!) "Testicular Fortitude". He's sharp and moves through his comments like a boxer. One of Obama's best advocates. I wish he'd have advocated for himself so well in 2004, but he's finally arrived. Welcome John Kerry.

John Kerry, the man who should be president. Too bad he didn't take another shot at it this time around. Let's hope Obama gets serious about responding to the republican's negative attacks. Unfortunately the only way he can counter Mccain is to go negative. Why not question Mccain's mental faculties? He clearly is confused on who Iran is providing training for. If he doesn't have a firm grip on that subject how can he seriously say his experience makes him more qualified for the presidency? The only experience one can have that actually counts is actually being president and neither candidate can claim that. Let's hope the republicans appeal to ignorance doesn't work a third time.

Wednesday night, Kerry's speech was electrifying. He finally let the fire in his belly rage out of control.

Mr. Kerry. Please keep your advice to yourself. The way you and yours botched things 4 years ago, please, give it a rest.

I thought Kerry's speech was outstanding

Kerry gave a great speech. One of the best. What if he lost in 2004? Look at what he can do now. And we don't even know for sure he lost. Didn't I read somewhere the ballot boxes/machines were tampered with to help Bush win. Wonder why no one ever brings that up.

Rove was supposed to have a secret formula used to reprogram the Diebold voting machines for obvious reasons..

I think I just heard Kerry say that (paraphrase) "George Bush stood on that aircraft carrier and he declared 'Next stop, Bagdad!"

I can't wait to see the transcript on this speech. Classic incoherent JFK.
Lurch is all over the place.

You don't put quotation marks around paraphrased text, doofus.

No, those words " Next Stop, Baghdad!" were a quote from...... John McCain.

And guess when?

Just 3 months after 9-11!

And just one month after 9-11 he was on Letterman saying we should go into Iraq.

BushCheneyRoveNeocons have dumped America into the toilet. John McCain is poised to flush.

The great man himself, "JFK", is just now wrapping up his speech. (PBS coverage).
Did he plagiarize? Clink on the link and you be the judge:

Kerry's speech was dreadful...like his campaign. He has nothing to impart except "Don't be like me."

I would be terrified if I were an obama supporter that Barack would listen to anything Kerry would have to say...

You should be terrified. Very terrified. A wise man/woman understands that there is always something to learn from those who have paved a pathway.

John Kerry would have been a great President and so much would be different right now. Unfortunately, John Kerry was an inadequate nominee. He didn't know how to fight back, was too wordy and intellectual, and couldn't believe he could lose to a Republican dumb guy.
I hope history does not repeat itself but the next two nights will be an indicator if this convention doesn't get it together and tighten down on McCain trashin.

He was a gentleman. Which is what we said we wanted--but didn't, as it turns out.

That's rich. John Kerry, the nominee, was outperformed by his keynote speaker, Barack Obama, at the 2004 convention, and now he's offering him convention speech advice! Nobody would dispute that Obama knows how to give a speech, but he also has a specific record of blowing the roof off the Democratic National Convention. Something tells me he'll do alright with or without Kerry's advice...

The comments against Kerry are just wrong. He has been a very effective rottweiler for Obama. Despite the swiftboat lies at least he is a war hero and not someone who just got caught. (And remember the PUMA lot are this seasons swiftboaters)
