This is the thing that bothers me the most. The DNC didn't select Sen. Obama until the members of the party did. He was elected by the process that was in place before either Sen. Clinton or Sen. Obama were in the senate, let alone contemplating running for office.

You did not vote for him, but that doesn't mean he wasn't voted for. You didn't get screwed. Sen. Clinton did not get screwed. She ran a campaign that over all failed to resonate with the majority of the electorate. The whys have all been well documented, and the ones with the most impact were all internal.

But none of that matters, if voting based on biology is more important than ideology, then vote your sex. The fact that the candidate with the best record on "women's issues" on the ticket is the very man you are vowing not to vote for is an irony not lost on anyone but you.

To me it's not a party thing, i vote for who i like. I know it's two different camps and you are going to get that parties mentality and ethics but it comes down to one man/woman who becomes the leader of the country so it's best to check out the candidate in question then decide. I watched Hillary's speech and part of Joe Bidens. I believe this race for the Presidency will be very exciting.

I do not understand the Hillary supporters who are not voting. Or anybody who is not voting because they don't like the candidates. Somebody is getting the job and clearly it is an important job. How does it help to not vote because your preferred candidate didn't get the nomination?

A very good friend of mine is sniveling around because Hillary is not the nominee and is taking is very personally. It's like she was personally wronged in some way and sees it as some kind of protest to not vote. How does that help? It's going to be either Obama or McCain. So why stay home on election day and leave the decision up to others?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:39 PM on 08/28/2008

I don't know. i don't understand it, either.
I'm a woman and I certainly don't feel PERSONALLY wronged or aggrieved. I feel Obama is a candidate FOR WOMAN. Can we say that about McCain? I don't think so. At least, I certainly don't believe it.

I voted for Bill TWICE, Gore, Kerry......
They certainly were good choices for ME, as a woman and they certainly were good enough for many women, also.
Last I looked, they were men....just like Obama! :)

I completely understand. It's what a lot of Obama supporters have stated quite loudly.

You've read a few insults from a handful of anonymous bloggers !! There are millions of people from both camps who, logically, JUST WANT A DEMOCRAT IN THE WHITE HOUSE.

At this point, anyone who just "can't let it go" is displaying signs of an illogical, unbalanced mind. It's an Election : someone won & he represents the Democratic Party. Simple.

It's fun to see the neocons running around chasing their tails over this. They are terrified of a unified democratic party, particularly in this election year, and they will do anything to try to undermine it.

I particularly love all the "I'm a democrat, but..." nonsense from those who are claiming they will vote for McCain. No democrat (or ethical human being) would willingly vote for a continuation of the brutal, selfish, violent and criminal policies of the Bush administration. Those who would, those who care more about being right than doing right, would rather destroy the nation than admit that they made a bad choice.

It's so transparent and childish, and deeply, deeply entertaining. Go trolls!

As a democrat who proudly voted for Bill twice, Gore, and Kerry, among many others, your sophomoric assumptions humor me.
If you fail to see the differences between HRC and BHO then you shouldn't be involved in politics.

I'm a Clinton supporter and was a donator.

I'm simply walking away. As numerous obamaniacs have Clearly Stated Numerous times, 'We don't need you.'

So... ok. you're getting your wish.

But Hillary isn't getting HER WISH.
Go ahead and turn your back on her because she was the one who asked her supporters to back Obama.

How exactly is your refusal to accept HRC's defeat in any way representative of a mature understanding of the value of your vote?

By being childish - taking your ball and going home - you're playing into the hands of the people whose machinations are working 24/7 to divide our party and install another criminal in the White House.

If your sulk over HRC's having lost is more important than protecting civil rights, the economy, our foreign policy, etc., then you are exactly what I described above. You're not exempt because you think you're special.

It just makes you wonder why they spent all that money on a convention when the "choice" had been decided in corporate board-rooms more than two years before. This isn't an election at all ... it's a foregone conclusion.

Interestingly enough, the best source of information that we have to look through all this gauze is ... the Library of Congress. The Congressional Record. (Online at: http://thomas.loc.gov.)

As the Good Book says, "by their fruits shall ye know them," and here, meticulously cataloged, you'll find a lot of rotten fruit. The actual voting records of all of these men and women (who, as we see, are ALL sitting United States Senators). What they said in committee. Every single blood-soaked vote for war.

There are more sites, too, though not quite as authoritative. Sites that show the links between these men and women and the military industrialists whom they serve. Not just the Alaskan "bridge to nowhere" but the Mexican "border-fence to nowhere."

We see what (literally) billions of dollars in advertising will buy. The bitter truth takes a little bit more research.

I'm glad to be voting for HRC in 2012.

I'm not sure if I'm just going to stay home on election day, or vote for McCain.

Bottleneck isn't a bad thing, and it would help ensure that HRC gets the nod in 2012.

The party is fractured and it isn't reuniting. Biden's a joke and the antithesis to Obama's platform.

The change is really just the same...

For months now the media has been trying to cause division among the Democrats, first trying racial division (did you see the face of America in the crowd), then they tried to claim and cause a feud between Obama and the Clinton"s. Oh! how they hoped that there would be fist fights in the aisles of the convention (since that is the state of their Republican mentality). Instead they were astonished by the fortitude of the Democratic Party to be above the fray of Republican pundit attacks and falsehoods. Did you see How they cheered Hillary and How President William Jefferson Clinton had to ask them to please stop so he could speak. I ask you when has a Republican President ever gotten such a reception? It is now time for you phony Democrats and phony blacks to go back to your conservative Nazi propaganda blogs, and stop trying to pose as intelligent compassionate human beings.

Another conservative not paying attention. What have these conservative policies really done for you? I'll bet you are making less money, because if as you say you are a small business owner, there are fewer people who can purchase your product or service. You are paying more overhead because of high gas prices and utilities. If you are truly middle class, you are bearing the tax burden in this country because of Republican policies.
Obama's plan is to cut taxes for the middle class - those making less than $250 K, which most small business do - give the middle class a $1000 gas rebate (for immediate relief). He will make the richest 1% who have been evading taxes since 1998 pay their FAIR SHARE (23% of corporations paid NO taxes between 1998 and 2005). There is a price to be paid for living in a "free" country and if you have prospered in this country you have a responsibility to pay back to the country that offered you that success. Those who have been fortunate to get a good education can lift themselves up, but all along they have teachers and mentors and parents that have helped. Nobody does it all by themselves. Democrats don't believe in hand outs, we believe in a hand up. We don't pull the ladder of success up behind us. We believe we are here to help each other succeed as opposed to Republicans who believe and say, "I got mine, screw you."

I work, I earn money. It's mine.. if you want some money don't steal it from me through entitlement taxation to placate the lazy.

It's really that simple..

Of course if you're allergic to work you'll find all kinds of holes in that statement.

Well, let me tell you a little bit about my life.

I've worked my butt off to make sure that I had the money to pay for all of my children's college education. Then just a couple of years before they went, the Georgia legislature (led by Democrats), passed the lottery law.

Great law, poor people financed my children's education that I damn well could pay myself. But you know those politicians, they just had to get involved.

Mo' money for me, not so sad.

What did I decide to do with it: Contribute to the Salvation Army and other various charities, they are far better at helping poor people than the federal government ever dreamed of.

So, don't shed any tears for me.

I am disappointed with the acclamation business: Did the primaries mean nothing at all? Why not allow all the states the chance to show case their own primaries?

It's one thing if Hillary announced the votes from the state of New York and put Obama over the required number of votes. It was completely a different story when the overwhelming number of votes came out for Obama--not the close call expected by the Clinton supporters, and THEN she, the all powerful, suspended the roll call.

What DOES it mean, then? That she bestowed the nomination onto him?

Gee, thanks...

Don't be naive. There are all sorts of convention rules about the roll call of votes. It does not negate the primaries and caucuses and the will of the people. Obama won and the roll call was going to affirm it.

This was a carefully choreographed and negotiated deal ahead of time. There were no surprises to the DNC leadership. This was what they worked out to silence the ridiculous charges of the media and the repubs that kept trying to keep disunity as the story. It was brilliant and Dems presented a united front that will shut the pundits up I hope! It was fitting that Clinton be the one to suggest the acclamation vote and it had nothing to do with her getting killed in the roll call.

The buzz was out days ago that she would probably do this, and indeed, if you looked at the schedule published for yesterday's events it was clear that not enough time had been allocated to complete the full roll call. All of the votes will be counted and entered into the official record of the DNC proceedings. There was no point in continuing, as he was leading her in delegate votes by a 5-to-1 margin.

It was great theater, and the timing was perfect. They'd gotten far enough through the roll call that it was clear that the vast majority of Clinton's delegates were NOT rising up in protest, but had in fact gone over to Obama. So that media-stoked issue was laid to rest. And Clinton's gesture was her way of emphasizing her message from Tuesday night, that yes, it's over, Obama's the candidate and she supports him. It was all very well orchestrated.

So really the only thing we were deprived of was all of the stuff about "The great state of _____________, home of pointy peaks and prarie plains, friendly folks and fabulous food, great state of champion college badminton teams, blah blah blah." No big loss there!

I do wish they'd shorten the "great state ..." bit and leave more time for actual vote count. It is just a matter of formality this year. Still, states come in late alphabetically should have a chance to shine as well. Otherwise, can you blame them for trying to move their primaries up?
