Sarah Palin: What Exactly Does The VP Do Everyday?

Politico points out that McCain's VP pick dissed the job only a month ago:

In an interview just a month ago, she dissed the job, saying it didn't seem "productive."

In fact, she said she didn't know what the vice president does.

Larry Kudlow of CNBC's "Kudlow & Co." asked her about the possibility of becoming McCain's ticket mate.

Palin replied: "As for that VP talk all the time, I'll tell you, I still can't answer that question until somebody answers for me what is it exactly that the VP does every day? I'm used to being very productive and working real hard in an administration. We want to make sure that that VP slot would be a fruitful type of position, especially for Alaskans and for the things that we're trying to accomplish up here for the rest of the U.S., before I can even start addressing that question."

Also watch a separate interview during which Palin tells CNBC's Larry Kudlow that she's a super long shot for the vice presidency:

No one can play stupid that well unless their name is Al Pacino. And it is impossible to underestimate the intelligence of Republicans.

Very interesting question. I would be tempted to ask Palin to put up a question for Yahoo Answers.
Alternative: for both Republicans and Democrats to put together an Orientation Kit and list of references for Ms. Palin.

Sarah Palin: What Exactly Does The VP Do Everyday?

Gee I guess she was asleep in High School government class. I bet you can find any 16 year old and ask them and they could tell you what the Vice President does. Heck I know and I do not feel qualified to be VP, what is wrong with these repugs? Better yet this is the best choice because it is a gift to the Democratic party ;-)

I would highly doubt you can remember what you learned in High School goverment (social studies) class. If you are going to debate or scoff at a candidate, can you please do it with some intelligent critique? I am still on the fence with these 2 candidates, but I don't feel better hearing nonsense from people like you who think not knowing what the VP does is a deficit. If you do know, you are among the few. And if you say "replaces the President if needed and presides over the Senate", everybody knows that, including Palin.

Can somebody please hint to McCain that this is not Pop Idol but the election to manage and operate US Incorporated. She qualifies how exactly? Fingers crossed the American people see through the selection of Palin for what it is - a pathetic tactic to bag votes to nab McCain the Top Job. If the rest of us in the world have to suffer the 'fingernails down a blackboard' voice of Palin on the Box, American voters who put McCain in that job will have a lot to answer for. Has she ever even traveled outside the US?

Love checking in here to see the utter panic on the left! Keep talking up experience and your community organizer will shine through as the best teleprompter reader since Kennedy (who by the way is rolling over in his grave over what you have done to his party). Cant wait to see Joe "bloviating" Biden get it handed to him in a debate with someone with executive, actual decision making, experience. Sending a buck down to Barack Husseins Obamas bro in Africa by the way. Maybe he can buy another piece of corrugated for his hut...I know " O " wont.

Again, no intelligent debate here. She is governor of Alaska. And you're worried about her voice? I like Obama, but he qualifies how? I know how he qualifies, but you state that she isn't and I am curious how you give him qualities of leadership that she doesn't have.

I believe Obama's party is the one who started the whole mess of "who" doesn't have experience...right??? Didn't Obama disqualify her experience. So Sarah just came back at him....funny how ya JUST can't take a smart, strong woman. She started out as a "community" organizer...PTA and she knows more about the real people than Obama ever will.

What "real people" were you alluding to that Palin knows but Obama doesn't?

What's so stunning about this is her lack of understanding of the context of her response. This answer means she has no idea of the basic responsibilities of the job. This is taught in most elementary grade school classes.

In addition, this shows how far removed from the BUSH-CHENEY debacle. This clearly shows how little she knows about what's going on in America much less care. If I were an Alaskan I'd be ashamed to have a Governor admit this.

And she wants to play on the national stage.....

I'm embarrassed she couldn't answer the question with America and the world watching ...and laughing.

NO one is saying anything about McCain making money off booze! What kind of family values is that? They make money off a lot of suffering, and don't give it back! How can the hypocrites accept that!

Sounds pretty refreshing to me. She sounds like someone who is used to getting things done, unlike the zero experience at management that Senators have.

You know, you're right. She make a good running mate for Ross Perot.

Apparently, she doesn't know how to act as a Governor either. Listen to her giggling when radio host calls Alaska State Senator Lyda Green a b***h:

Notice how the article doesn't tell you what the VP does. Nor do any of the replies. There's only one person who knows what the Vice President does, and that's Dick Cheney, and he isn't telling. If anyone else, such as the author of this article, knew what the VP does, then that person would probably be eliminated. Nothing personal, just a job that has to be done.

Note that "being ready to step into the President's shoes" is being, not doing. While being ready, should you twiddle your thumbs? Destroy a few third-world countries for the fun of it? Shred every document you can get close to? Bake a cake? What?

There is this little birdie whispering in the back of my head...

"Wonder if McCain in fact believes that he was destined to lose the election no matter what, and chose Palin so that history will attribute his loss to an inappropriate VP choice, rather than to the bankruptcy of Republican policy?"

Or rather ......... after this ticket loses it would have a women who is the Rising Star in the Republican Party.

I think that she may be deserving of a political boost for the future of the Republican Party.

I'm thinking she's more of a scapegoat than a rising star.

Probably not what he was thinking.

The Vice President's job has changed and varied greatly among Vice Presidents from Adams through Cheney. I would challenge those calling her dumb to state what they think the Vice President's job consists of and which Vice Presidents that idea is based on.

The most important qualification is that the V.P. pick must be qualified to step in as President if something happens. This is why McCain's pick of Palin is not just ridiculous --IT IS SCARY.

What is so different about Palin stepping in with her qualifications and experience, than say... Obama? He steps in without anybody being disabled. At least she gains more experience while at backup. I am seeing firsthand how the unintelligent make their decisions based on biased instead of thought.

Hey. I am a soccer mom, went to college, am active in the PTA, and was a high school basketball star. I
Maybe John McCain will let me be National Security Advisor. Wouldn't that be fun!

Probably not because it sounds like you have stay at home experience rather than political office experience.

Why shoot so low. Become a community organizer, go to law school, make some shady connections, and get elected to the state senate by default. Run for US Senate and then announce your candidacy for President within two years of that and you are really having fun. Then you can stand among one of the most qualified candidates and watch the press rip her to shreds in helping you get a free pass to the nomination.

Apparently Palin isn't the brightest.

After she graduated from college, she applied for an on-air job with ESPN. But she lost interest when she was told that - surprise, surprise - if hired, she would have to move to where ESPN is located (Bristol, CT).

Note: Judging by the clip of her as a sportscaster (shown on MSNBC yesterday), her odds of becoming vice president are much better than being hired by ESPN...

I'm really hoping that the democrats will jump on this video clip of Ms. Palin saying that she doesn't know what the V.P. does and use it as a commercial!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 07:48 PM on 08/30/2008

Palin stated that she wanted to know what the VP did "every day"... not what the VP did. Nobody knows what the VP does everyday. You guys either misinterpret or are ignorant based on bias. This is why the news isn't using this clip, because they are more intelligent than most of you here... at least some of them are, anyway.
