Newsweek   |  Tammy Haddad   |   September 1, 2008 12:27 PM

John Coale, a prominent Washington lawyer, husband of Fox TV host Greta Van Susteren and a supporter of Sen. Hillary Clinton, announced today that he was supporting John McCain for president. Coale, who traveled with Sen. Clinton, President Clinton and her family through out the primary season, complained of sexism, and said the Democratic Party is "being taken over by the moveon.org types" in an exclusive interview with Newsweek.com's Tammy Haddad. He said he tried to prevent Clinton's brother, Tony Rodham, from attending an August 18th meeting in Scranton, Pa. with McCain campaign surrogate Carly Fiorina. "I urged him not to go and told him it would embarrass his sister, but he has a mind of his own." Coale says Mr. Rodham asked Ms. Fiorina "about McCain's Supreme Court picks."

John Coale has been a friend of mine for over 30 years. I am stunned that he, knowing exactly how horrible and dangerous the Republicans are, would be such a big baby bad sport that he would endorse McCain.

I'm positive that everyone who has known him is aghast that he has taken this step into
the dark abyss. He has lost all reason, and if I'm any indication of how his friends will react,
he is now friendless.

I hope he has fun with his newfound allies, the same Republicans that he has mocked and hated so much since we first met. Shame on you Johnny. You have lost your soul.

OK, did I just hear that correctly? He is supporting John McCain because he said in a debate that what kept him going during his captivity was the fact that he knew America would never torture their prisoners like the North Vietnamese tortured theirs? Is he f***ing serious!? What has his country been doing for the past five-plus years with all the detainees from the war on terror? This is the biggest load of crap I have heard in a long time. This is sour grapes, plain and simple. Good riddance, John. Have a great time with your new friends. I guess you missed Hillary's speech last week.

p.s. Read Jane Mayer's book, The Dark Side, and then tell me your country would never torture its prisoners. OMFG

This guy is married to a neocon lawyer on Faux News. What do you expect when many DLC types are conservative first and Democrat last.....like Holy Joe and Zig Zag Zell.

Sorry people but this guy is a total jerk. And, as can be seen from the first few comments, he has been successful in casting blame for his stupidity on Hillary Clinton. The reality is that no real Hillary Clinton supporter would support John McCain. And no one who appreciated the depth of Hillary's experience would vote for Sarah Palin simply because she is a woman. What a ridiculous assumption that one woman is equal to any woman in experience, knowledge, and ability. Sarah doesn't hold a candle to Hillary. And John doesn't deserve to hold a candle for anyone. I think someone must have dropped him on his head. Hillary and McCain are alike??? What a snake...go crawl back under a rock John. Or was the money to do this really, really, good???

Obviously the cult of the personality (Clinton) was more important to this guy than the issues. Otherwise, he wouldn't be willing to do a total 180 and support McCain.

Sad.

The potential for even one single Hillary Clinton vote going to John McCain over accusations of sexism is serious business--and completely unacceptable. Democrats, like Obama, should not question Palin's ability as a mother, nor her inexperience. We don't have to. She has enough problems simply defending the few policy positions we know about. Here are five:

1) Her radical anti-abortion Rights position is at odds with the majority of Americans. She believes that government should be involved in deciding whether a woman should have to bring a fetus to term even in instances of rape or incest. Let's not mince words: Far from being a feminist, ultimately Palin champions the right of every rapist to choose the mother of his child.

2) Far from being a pork-barrel "reformer", she actually campaigned for governor on the platform of _acquiring_ federal funding for the "Bridge to Nowhere."

3) Palin used to be a member of the Alaskan Independence Party which wants to secede from the U.S. Some AIP leaders have refused to be buried under an American flag. This is an absolute mockery of "Country First."

4) She was a supporter of Buchanan's presidential bid. 'Nuff said.

5) If her daughter's out-of-wedlock pregnancy is to be an issue at all, it should only be invoked as a direct critique of the utter failure of abstinence-only programs--and the huge amounts of taxpayer money that has been wasted on them.

BULLOCKS......you may use a silk glove while the Rethuglicans use a steel glove against us. BULLOCKS....if Hillary plays cutesy with Palin, she will forever lose the base of this party and have to run as a Republican presidential candidate....

Actually I thought Hillary was part of the darkside while in the primary. I am so disappointed in the Hillary and Bill campaign this year. I've heard that democrats have an understanding that you never use republican tactics against your own party.
