Edwina Rogers, the wife of Washington lobbyist Ed Rogers, is a master of the form and has developed her own signature specialty. She wraps her thank-yous in sheets of real dollar bills, purchased from the Bureau of Engraving.

In this clip from the pilot episode of "PowerHouse"-a kind of "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" show set in Washington and in development for NBC-Mrs. Rogers is shown in her "wrapping room," a special area of her walk-in closet in her 18,000-square-foot mansion.

She unfurls a roll of dollar bills and starts slicing them up to make the appropriate wrapping sheets. No matter that she slices several dollar bills in half-it is all about lining up the George Washingtons on the front.

(Chuckle...)

Yep, "Engraving and Printing" sells dollar-bills by the uncut sheet, if you want them, and it does make some pretty-cool wrapping paper. :-)

But the idea is not exactly new. It's just fun.

(You've never seen anyone unwrap a package more carefully. Yes, each one of those dollar-bills is legal tender.)

The dollar is becoming worh about as much as the paper it is written on. But we are told that inflation is behind us. After the election new truths will emerge to shock an innocent and gullible people.

FINALLY - those in a position to know show what the US$ is REALLY worth....

funny how you can't buy gold or silver lately - the demand is so far ahead of supply that the Mint can't keep up...... wonder if that means something?..........

but.... but... the dollar is doing BETTER.... that's what the talking heads say....

EXACTLY the reason why these people and the politicians they lobby are accused of being out of touch with america.
When americans are going hungry, homeless, jobless, losing everything, bankrupt, and with medical problems, these people looking for political favors are destroying legal tender for novelty gifts.

I thought it was against the law to destroy legal tender.

Apparently not if you pay for it first.

Should I worry now, or when someone decides to one-up her using Lincolns?

How cheaply one can buy influence. It says something about the chintzy predilections of legislators on both sides of the aisle.

I heard this story on NPR last week. The filthy rich truly are different. They're not human.

Oh they are human, they are just psychopathic. Here is a good book on the subject. Check out the symptomatic keynotes of a psychopath and tell me you don't see every CEO, corporate raider, and most politicians when you read it.

My first reaction is pure revulsion. But when I look at that box, it would take about 8 dollar bills to wrap it up. That's about what you'd spend on nice paper and a bow at Hallmark. Maybe I need to start using the Newspaper Comics and give the $8 to my local shelter.

I have no words for this woman! There are people homeless and hungry and she is wrapping presents in REAL dollar bills?

Hell needs to open up a new place for her.
