Palin

Washington Independent:

Earlier today, First Lady Laura Bush urged us to remember Gov. Sarah Palin's record as mayor of her hometown from 1996-2002 when assessing her experience. I agree.

Driving around this city today, I decided it looks more or less like a string of strip malls, 45 minutes northeast of Anchorage. I couldn't help but think that being mayor of a place like this would be something akin to running a large neighborhood watch.

The main highway that runs through town is lined with new big-box stores, including a Target and a Wal-Mart. A handful of fast-food chains as well as some local restaurants also sprinkle the main drag. Breathtaking mountains, the peaks still lightly dusted with snow, create a striking backdrop. Despite the chain stores, this small city feels distant from the rest of the world. I'd have guessed Palin would have run the city with a "we're in this together" theme.

It turns out she had a somewhat different approach. If a small-town mayor ever ruled with an iron fist -- it was Palin. Eleven days after taking office in 1996, she mailed letters to each of the city's top managers requesting that they resign as a test of loyalty.

She acts like some of the school districts I've heard about-- everytime a new Principal gets hired -- a core of teachers are dumped and replaced with cronies--- that's why our schools are in trouble..

Only in oil-cash rich Alaska can a town with a population of 6,000 have a full time mayor paid $68,000 a year. I live in Corvallis, OR, population 60,000 with a volunteer part-time mayor.

I'm betting you can't find one town, with a population of less than 10,000 who has a full time mayor much less a well paid full time mayor, in any state except for Alaska. I'm also wondering if it was a full-time well paid job before Palin came along.

Loyalty test? Sounds like she's a kindred spirit to Alberto Gonzales.

Palin is a flag burning anti American sucessionist! She was a member of the Alaska Independent Party, and while she was a member they submitted a vote to secede from the Union.

How dare she consider herself for v.p.? She's no patriot. She's just another flag burning radical.

Shame on John McCain for putting personal politics ahead of his country. Maybe they both should move to Alaska and secede. Good riddance.

The fact that she requires a "loyalty test" is enough to disqualify her from public office.

I applaud anyone who showed their loyalty to where they belong, THE PEOPLE, and told her where to go.

***The fact that she requires a "loyalty test" is enough to disqualify her from public office.***

I agree, and this from a new thread disqualifies her from the same:

"Her speech in June provides as much insight into her policy leanings as anything uncovered since she was asked to be John McCain's running mate. Speaking before the Pentecostal church, Palin painted the current war in Iraq as a messianic affair in which the United States could act out the will of the Lord."

Read the whole article on the thread if you want a good scare. I've been posting for 3 days about her Pent*costal beliefs and how they pervade every part of the life, I know about this church. The women especially tend to be deeply spiritual and can sometimes be highly emotional. It's just that kind of church.

Anyway, between her oath-signing and doing God's will, McDrill has really gone and done it in selecting her, he will lose this election as more and more stuff leaks out. Any day now I expect a leaked video of a typical Sunday night church service for P*lin, complete with speaking in tongues and lots of shouting and singing. This will put many voters off. And that is just fine with me!

Listening to interviews at the Republican Convention, everyone keeps talking about the wonderful decision the Palin's daughter has made to keep her baby....there was no decision, according to Sarah Palin there is no choice.
How sad that the Republicans have made a personal, family situation public because they have politicized individual responsibility and choice.

But, I thought it was the left that was making political hay out of the daughter's pregnancy. You mean to tell me that the right is using it to make political points? Shame on them.

This is precisely why we need to maintain separation of church and state.

McCain purportedly chose this woman because she's going to change the way Washington works. Apparently, he means that she's going to pick up where GWB left off with his agenda of "change":

She uses her position to fire people, just as the current Administration got rid of a dozen US Attorneys.

She doesn't believe human activity has anything to do with global warming.

She claims she's a corruption fighter who "stood up to" Ted Stevens, but she lied: Ted Stevens was an active proponent of her election as Governor; Palin supported him financially via a 527 group; she defended earmarks -- including $27 million for her 9,000-person town of Wasilla -- and actually fought for the "Bridge to Nowhere" before she opposed it.

Hmmm, a politician with no experience who says one thing and does another, while using her power to destroy her opponents. She seems as though she'll be a perfect fit for the current VP's chair, and with McCain at 72 and four bouts of cancer, perhaps the Big Chair as well.

When you add the shudder-producing thought of this person as the one who would face down the likes of Vladimir Putin in a crisis, it sure speaks volumes about McCain's so-called judgment.

"Country First"? Uh, more like "Politics -- and Winning -- First."

Absolutely disgusting.

Okay, this nut-job is too scary to even be considered for the position. We just had two terms of an administration that didn't allow dissent.
