Palin's Trip To Ireland? A 'Shannon Stopover'

At some point, one has to expect that we will finally come to know all there is to know about Sarah Palin. But until that day comes, here's another tidbit, courtesy John Aravosis. See, back when Palin was announced as McCain's Veep, inquiring minds wanted to know: had she ever traveled abroad? Her spokeswoman told Politico's Ben Smith that she had been to Germany, Kuwait, and Ireland.

At least one Irish blogger, Suzy Byrne, stepped forward to call blarney on that:

Two words to describe that visit to Ireland I think.

SHANNON STOPOVER! *

...

*For US readers the Shannon Stopover refers to planes landing at Shannon Airport to refuel when on their way to and from parts of Europe/Middle East. Shannon Airport sees many US Military and contractor flights arrive there each month for refueling -- passengers get off the plane for a while and then get back on again. Hardly a visit to Ireland?

Well, give it up to the international blogosphere, folks, because as it turns out, Byrne was absolutely correct. Ben Smith, today:

The Ireland trip was a refueling stop on her trip to military installations in Germany and Kuwait, spokeswoman Maria Comella said.

Do you need anything from duty-free, America?

Those darn Republicans seem to have so many memory problems. They can't remember cars, homes, where they have been, when they broke the law last, and so on. It's a good thing they have staff to get back to us.

Seriously folks...when people ask me if I've ever been to New York, I routinely answer, "No." According to the Palin School of thought, I should shout a hearty "YES!" You see, I've spent at least a week there! Yes, during the many years that I lived in Germany, I flew over and back at least 30 times. At least 9 or 10 times those flights took me through JFK Airport. I've been through customs at that airport on return trips on numerous occasions. I've had layovers at the airport that have lasted anywhere from 2 to 8 hours and on one or two occasions due to acts of God (thunderstorms, if I recall correctly) more than 24 hours, which were spent on the floor of the airport. Once I even took a taxi from JFK all the way to La Guardia. Yes, folks, from now on I will delightedly affirm that indeed I have been to New York!

Let's face it: Even her claims of having been in Kuwait and Germany are totally skewed. Going to an American Military installation in a foreign country is nothing even close to akin to actually having visited a foreign country. What the h-e-double-toothpicks kind of morons does the McCain campaign take us for??? I mean, HONESTLY! I'll bet she didn't even meet one "real" Kuwaiti or German the whole time she was in either of those countries, let alone see any sites or taste any local cuisine.
Whatever!!!!!!!!!!

This is getting sadder, and sadder.

By Palin's spokeswoman's account, I've been to twice as many countries as I previously thought -- just because we stopped for a refuel.

She probably thinks she went to Ireland because Shannon has a nice big duty free -- a legacy of the days when every Russian transatlantic flight and a large proportion of western transatlantic flights stopped there to refuel.

Hey, I've been to Tijuanna and I was my High School President. (4,300 students) I've only got 3 kids though. pick me to be a heartbeat away from the presidency. I'm sure that would scare the crap out of my ex husband though. :)

hey this is unfair

neil armstrong and friend just landed on the moon for a short look and see
and pick up a few rocks, plant a flag, and then back home. we dont now
ridicule that but acknowledge the accomplishment. so too with sarah world traveler
who probably can't name and locate more than 4 or 5 percent of the worlds nations on a map
lets praise her for having landed in IRELAND, AFTER ALL THE IRISH ARE A BIT MUCH

After watching Screen Actors' Guild member Thompson at the FNC, (Failures' National Convention), I turned to my wife and asked her, "What would happen to the Failure Party if suddenly they were compelled to tell the truth instead of the continual lies?"

Honest to G*d, she spewed her drink!

By two am Saturday morning I had read all there was to read about Ms Palin at that point. I had read enough to determine the McBush staff did NOT adequately vet her. I also decided she is a serial liar, if not a pathological liar.

This story has reached the point where it is hard to tell who lies more, McBush or Palenti, I mean Palin. (I guess I'm catching what the Failure Party's National Co-Chair has.)

This all comes back to McBush. His choice of Palin was reactionary & made 'cause he was pissed off that he couldn't choose Leiberman. Temperment & Judgement. It comes back to his advisors and staff and the poor vetting. None of them are ready for roles in a White House administration. Those are the issues, Palin is a symptom. Focus on that.

Let the lies commence! Sounds like a real"top drawer" Republican to me. She knows how to lie.

So we'd get a potential President who has never really been out of the country except on these official trips (worse than a cruise ship tourist stop). Sounds like George Bush in a dress.
