I don't know what they're doing over there at TNT - but they're definitely doing something right. Monday's premiere of TNT's new legal drama, "Raising the Bar," snared 7.7 million viewers - the most- watched basic- cable series launch in history. It also averaged 5.7 million households, also a basic-cable record, and joins "The Closer" (Kyra Sedgwick) and "Saving Grace" (Holly Hunter) in TNT's troika of top-rated cable dramas.

Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Gloria Reuben and Jane Kaczmarek star.

This show was just awful. I watch Law and Order and so, after 12 years, I know something about law and trial procedure and the storyline was not credible. Identification based on being shown one photo would NEVER be allowed in court. And that is just the beginning of the stupidity.

We watched the premier of "Raising the Bar." It was packed to the point of disruption with commercials. The story line was incredible and the characters were cartoons. The show is DOA.

Generally speaking, the dramas on cable are much more original than the dramas that make it on the "play it safe" networks. The ratings cable is getting may be a surprise to so-called TV executives, but they're no mystery to those of us who watch TV.
