Obama Swing Voters

Barack Obama responded personally to Sarah Palin's harsh speech at the Republican National Convention in York, Pennsylvania. "You're hearing an awful lot about me, most of which is not true," he said. "What you're not hearing is a lot about you." His full remarks:

"You wouldn't know that this is such a critical election by watching the convention last night. I know we had our week and so, you know, the Republicans deserve theirs. But it's been amazing to me to watch. Over the last two nights, if you sit there and you watch it, you're hearing a lot about John McCain -- and he's got a compelling biography as a POW. You're hearing an awful lot about me, most of which is not true. What you're not hearing is a lot about you."

"I mean, you haven't heard one word about how they're going to make the health care system work so that if a union's negotiating with a company, it's not all just a discussion about higher premiums, and you can actually start talking about higher wages and benefits. You haven't heard one word about how we're going to create more apprenticeship programs like the ones that we have here or give other people a chance to train in new trades. You haven't heard a word about getting serious about green and alternative energy, the kind of work that is resulting in all the expansion and additional hiring here. You haven't heard a word about how we're going to strengthen unions so that working people get a decent stake. You haven't heard a word about how we're going to improve math and science education so that we can hire more engineers to create more products in green technology. You haven't heard a word about how we're going to deal with any aspect of the economy that is affecting you and your pocketbook day-to-day. Haven't heard a word about it. I'm not exaggerating. Literally, two nights, they have not said a word about it. They've had a lot to say about me, but they haven't had anything to say about you. And the thing that I'm insisting on in this election is that we can't keep playing the same political games we always play."

Watch:

Asked about attacks on him Wednesday night by Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, Obama declined to strike back. "I'll let Gov. Palin talk about her experience. I'll talk about mine," Obama said

But earlier in the day Obama's top strategist, David Alexrod, dismissed the Alaska governor's convention speech as dishonest about Obama's record.

Axelrod told reporters aboard Obama's campaign plane that the Republican National Convention speakers had distorted the Democratic candidate's record and ignored his resume. He also suggested that John McCain's running mate was only parroting what she'd been told.

"There wasn't one thing that she said about Obama or what he's proposing that is true," Axelrod said. "She tried to attack Sen. Obama by saying he had no significant legislative achievements. Maybe that's what she was told."

On Wednesday, Republicans sought to define Obama as untested and inexperienced, making light of his past work as a community organizer in Chicago.

"For everyday people, ... that seems like real work," said Axelrod.

Ultimately, Axelrod said, the Republicans squandered an opportunity to promote their candidate. He also questioned the emphasis on McCain's years as a prisoner of war, saying the Arizona senator's history already was well known.

"They're shedding an awfully lot of heat but no light," he said. "It almost defies the laws of physics."

As for Palin's claim to be a political outsider, Axelrod said that given her pointed criticism of Obama, "for someone who makes the point that she's not from Washington, she looked very much like she would fit in very well there."

Barack Obama responded personally to Sarah Palin's harsh speech at the Republican National Convention in York, Pennsylvania. "You're hearing an awful lot about me, most of which is not true," he said.

Neither Barack Hussein Obama, nor his running mate, gave ANY decisive indications as to their "plans" should they be elected. That is NOT what a convention is about. Then, when the GOP ticket doesn't provide firm details as to their plans, the Democrats attack. Shocking!! More whining liberals. But then again, I suppose they don't make them any other way.

That's a bald-faced lie. If you could comprehend what Obama said at his convention you would have heard for the umpteenth time what his goals are. You don't WANT to listen to what he says because your mind was already made up. Just try to formulate an excuse that doesn't have you looking like an idiot.

Obama promised $150 billion for alternative energy. Compare that to the final cost of project Apollo, between $20 and $25.4 Billion in 1969 Dollars (or approximately $135 Billion in 2005 Dollars).

That's decisive indications to me.

But I would vote for Obama for the simple reason alone that he's trying to restore some civility and manners to a campaign system that for too long has been dominated by the shrill voices of haters and political trolls, such as yourself.

If Pa*lin is smart, and I'm doubting that she is, she'll do her own research and stop letting them tell her anything. Because just reading what is written for her without any study or input she is going to be constantly in a position where she is lying and don't even know it. Or maybe she just don't care that she is lying if it'll slip her into the white house.

If Palin goes out and "parrots" what she has been told, or even if she goes out and continues to tell these lies instead of getting into the issues they should be talking about.... How does that make her a maverick? It makes her a monkey. Monkey see Monkey do.. Only in her case it is Monkey hear, Monkey repeat.

Yes Hope, they have successfully made a soap opera out of this election campaign, and parroting the bull is just another entertainment value we get for free. Let's see how far she takes it?

I heard enough from Sarah PLAINLY she has no record worth speaking about and to have left wassilla with a 20m debt that is not a record I would brag about.

SARAH PLAINLY JUST DOESN'T GET IT.

If people dont help each other we all will be no better than the cavemen, looking out for ourselves.

He's right. The GOP refuses to talk about health care or balancing the budget.

The GOP will make a military dictatorship out the USA if this one gets in the White House. The junta will have a triumph! Cheney will be executive in charge while McCain attends beauty pageants and plays golf. In two more years we will be forbidden to drive after dark, maybe. USA will wage war in Iran (whether we want to or not) and oil will hit $250 a barrel, gas at the pump will be $6 or $7. You just wait and watch (if you don't get out to vote)!

Are we really substantiating the "community organizor" point on his resume? Really kids, do you feel well represented by a man who as smooth as Clinton has only the experience of a intern ?

he was a community organizer 20 years ago. It is a compeling part of his story, not one of his stated qualifications for president. Palin has 18 months as gov. of one of our smallest states, Alaska, which has population of only 670,000 people. That ranks around 40th in terms of the population of U.S. cities. Alaska also has a lower GDP thatncities like Baltimore and Albuquerque. I'm not impressed. But you think what you want about her experience firing her political oponents and raising city taxes in Wasilla, and lobbying congress for special projects like the bridge to no where. You think what you want about her radical opinions and separatist leanings. It's ok. We don't need you.

It's all part of the soap opera they staged - and America's obsession with Cindrella stories. Only this one is a Trojan Horse and will bring a military junta in the White House if McCain wins.

It's time to unleash Joe "attackdog" Biden on this and get this stuff over with. Obama's right as usual, and the Republicans are extrememly limited on what they can say they've accomplished. PATHETIC.

Perhaps someone, for example Joe Biden, should ask her face-to-face (so she can't hide), "Gee, Governor, wasn't Jesus a community organizer?"

And since she also ridiculed Obama about "parting the waters," she should also be asked, "Wasn't Moses a community organizer?"

In fact, wasn't Dr. King a community organizer?

That this woman doesn't understand the awesome "actual responsibilities" of a community organizer -- helping the downtrodden regain dignity, empowerment and hope -- says nothing about community organizers but a great deal about her.

Anyone who has tried to get two or more people together to improve the lives of the people is a community organizer.

These folks (Sarah, Rudy, et al.) just denigrated most of us. Apparently they think being a mayor makes them better than the rest of us....dang elitists.

Tracey, admired the post was not going to bother to comment until I read your post which is right on point! I since last night feel like we are definitely living in two different America's. And I like many have had enough of the partisan bull crap! It is amazing that families from all walks of life see their loved ones, kids to go off to war and become one on the battlefield, but here at home we are fighting as on a battlefield. The repub party along with Palin are only reinforcing what a US of A will look like in the coming years, we are only breeding contempt which can lead to anarchy. People are sick of not having a voice, tired of what cards we have been dealt in the last 8 years, what for more?. Last night and the hatefest was appalling, the sea of faces eating up the vitriol and mockery of community organizers was more than I could stomach. I won't be watching tonight! Thanks for your comment!

Staying classy and above the fray is working for Obama. The Rethugs will get a bump in the polls until it occurs to voters that they were using schoolyard tactics with zero substance.

McCain's speech was like eating a Big Mac for dinner. It tastes good and you know you shouldn't eat it and it sits like a rock in your stomach for two days.

Love this guy. What a great example. He raises the bar, every time. Now I have to be a better person. He is opening doors to levels of communication and existence that are sorely lacking in anything the republicans have put forth since...Lincoln? Maybe Teddy, and on some issues Eisenhower. This is the hallmark of a true leader, and a person of outstanding character. Thank you Senator Obama.

It was a "well-delivered" speech on Palin's part but it was borderline "nanny nanny boo boo" look at me, listen to what i can say. It was almost as if she was begging to be liked, accepted and seen as qualified.
