Obama Raises $10 Million After Palin Speech

UPDATE: Barack Obama's campaign met its expected $10 million dollar mark:

Barack Obama's presidential campaign said it raised $10 million Thursday following the Republican National Convention speech by rival John McCain's running mate, Sarah Palin.

Obama spokesman Bill Burton said Palin's address, heavily laced with digs at Obama, prompted an outpouring of donations from more than 130,000 donors.

The political impact of Sarah Palin continues to be hazy -- she's clearly revved up the Republican base, and helped McCain's campaign bring in more than $8 million since she was announced as his running mate.

But the Palin pick seems to be having a virtually identical effect on the Democratic base. Activists have frenetically picked apart Palin's record over the last week, and an Obama aide told the Huffington Post that the campaign has raised $8 million since her speech last night "from over 130,000 donors - on pace to hit $10 million by the time John McCain hits the stage tonight."

"Sarah Palin's attacks have rallied our supporters in ways we never expected," the aide said. "And we fully expect John McCain's attacks tonight to help us make our grassroots organization even stronger."

UPDATE: The Republican National Committee says it has raised $1 million since Palin's speech.

Why is Sarah Palin stonewalling the troopergate scandal? Because she's GUILTY. We do not need the representation of any guilty person in office. She's a damn disgrace!!!

Just as I did after the Romney, Huckabee, Guiliani and Palin speeches, I donated another $100 today after McCain's speech last night and I'll keep donating and will volunteer some time until GE. Americans who care about our country, how we're viewed and respected, our economy, our Constitution and our rights and freedoms to choose, simply cannot allow this woman to be one old man's heartbeat from the Presidency. Please, no more Rethuglicans in the White House ever! They are poisoning and slowly dividing our country!

As a retired US Army soldier, I was ready to fight and die to defend our country, its goals and interests. But the antics these Rethuglicans are pulling makes a sheer mockery of the service our military personnal provide and veterans have provided. Lately, I've asked myself is this the country we've become and the same country I was willing to fight and die for?

We can't continue doing this to ourselves! We can't allow this Rethuglican abomination to continue. Please donate what you can and/or volunteer some of your time to Obama's efforts. Let's stop this nightmare and let's all become community organizers!

Gov. Palin is about issues. Sen. Obama and his people are the ones who brought up the inexperience "card", so they are only getting what they want when Gov. Palin references Sen. Obama's many years of executive INexperience.
"Executive Experience" comparisons between Gov. Palin and the two Dem. nominees are not fair to Sen. Obama and Sen. Biden... but they asked for it!

The Republicans tend to thrive where there is a lot of uneducated, ignorant people. No wonder the Republicans don't put education very high on their list of priorities. If people were much more educated they likely would not be Republicans and the Republican machine would not have nearly as much control over their ignorant minds. I'm proud of the Democratic base and all Obama grassroots supporters for responding with such power and strength to Caribou Barbie and McSame.

Please stop saying stuff like this. The Rovians are counting on such attitudes coming out so that this election can be fought over the culture wars, rather than issues.

Lots of people in this country right now can't afford advanced educations, and our public school system is suffering, in part because of Republican policies.

We should acknowledge that poor and undereducated people have a place in the Democratic party and always have. In many ways, the recent history of the Democratic party has failed to reach out to poor, rural voters. I'm a big proponent of the 50 state strategy. We shouldn't just be thinking short term, but long term as well. I've been neighbors with the people I think your post describes, and made many close friends. But many of these folks no longer understand that Democratic policies will help them; the Reagan and Rove strategies have succeeded brilliantly in that. And Democrats like Gore and Kerry didn't do a good job of changing their minds. Sure, some folks in these areas will never see eye-to-eye with our party on many issues, but it's important not to condescend to and denigrate whole swaths of citizens.

10 million dollar haul in 24 hours is amazing.

Has the campaign released its August fundraising numbers yet?

Not surprising about Obama's fundraising. The really wealthy people are in the Democratic party --Soros, Buffett, Edwards, Feinstein, Hollywood, etc.

But it is true that conservatives contribute much more than liberals to charities.

Really? Then my $50 didn't count. Darn. I am going to stop giving to all those charities too. I WILL NOT be confused with those terrible neocons.

$10 million divided among 130,000 donors works out to about $77 per contributor. Hardly Soros or Buffett money. That's people cracking the wallet, putting their money where their mouth is to get Obama elected.

You must be joking. If you look at comparisons of delegates from both conventions, you will find that they have nearly identical wealth spreads.

And didn't Fred Thompson speak at your convention? And wasn't Arnold Schwarzenegger slated to?

And exactly how impoverished do you think Guiliani and Romney are? How about Bush or Cheney? I guess it's confusing because Republicans like Romney like to lie about other people's largesse rather than admitting to his own.

I suppose the MSM doesn't cover lies like this because they are so biased against you guys.

Really: all you seem to have anymore is character attacks and lies. Why is everyone in your party so afraid to talk about policy and specifics?

Hollywood? Did someone mention HOLLYWOOD?

GOP and Hollywood:

1) Ronald Reagan
2) Arnold Schwarzenegger
3) Clint Eastwood
4) Fred Thompson
5) Sonny Bono
6) Fred Grandy ("Gopher" on the Love Boat)

That's just off the top of my head...

Does it never occur to women like Sarah Palin that if not for "liberals", she wouldn't be allowed to even vote? And McCain STILL votes against equal pay for women.

Things have been tight financially for my wife and I for the past several months but I managed to scrape together $50 left over from our very tiny summer vacation budget and donated it yesterday. We absolutely need a person like Sen. Obama in the White House next year and a fear for the well being and future of this nation if McCain/Palin win (which still seems far too likely for my taste at this point).

I"m voting Republican because I believe the Bill of Rights only applies to people I like, and that the police never arrest an innocent man.

I"m voting Republican because I believe multinational corporations have my best interests at heart and therefore should run the government - and the world.

I"m voting Republican because I believe there is only one possible interpretation of the Constitution and it"s whatever Antonin Scalia says it is.

I"m voting Republican because I believe that Arabs and Muslims are less than human and think about nothing all day but killing me. I"m voting Republican because eventually we will kill all the bad guys and live happily ever after.

My son, an unemployed recent college graduate, contributed 10 bucks to the total. He has an interview next week for a position he really wants, and hopefully he'll land it. We're keeping our fingers crossed.
