Politico:

On behalf of the media, I would like to say we are sorry.

On behalf of the elite media, I would like to say we are very sorry.

We have asked questions this week that we should never have asked.

We have asked pathetic questions like: Who is Sarah Palin? What is her record? Where does she stand on the issues? And is she is qualified to be a heartbeat away from the presidency?

We have asked mean questions like: How well did John McCain know her before he selected her? How well did his campaign vet her? And was she his first choice?

Bad questions. Bad media. Bad.

Dear Viewers,

Correct link for artical by Time: http://www.time.com/time/politics
*** special thanks to LexisNexis: http://www.lexisnexis.com/

At the same time, the McCain campaign has struggled to reclaim the national political narrative from Obama. A review of 17,455 print stories between July 7 and Aug. 17 by the news-clip warehouse LexisNexis found that Obama received 38% more coverage than McCain. The tone of the coverage, the analysts concluded, was "remarkably similar," with about 31% of the Obama coverage categorized as "negative" compared with 33% of the McCain coverage. Magazines have also shown a preference for covering Obama, with the younger candidate scoring covers of Rolling Stone, GQ, People, Vanity Fair and Men's Vogue. So far this year, Obama has graced TIME's cover seven times, compared with three for McCain and one for his running mate, Sarah Palin. Newsweek has placed Obama-focused stories on the cover eight times in 2008, vs. four for McCain. "The press decided the campaign was going to be about Obama," Mark Salter, McCain's close adviser and co-author of his books, said last month. "There was nothing we could do about that. The race is as we found it."

Don't be fooled take it personal were talking about 55 days left till Nov. 4th and elect the next President of the United States

Boy---That was sorry.

I would like to apologize on the behalf of Roger Simon for that previous apology.

I would also like to apologize on the behalf of the protestors who actually managed to get some face time during the start of John McCain's speech. Phrases like "Veterans against McCain" could have very easily not been shown during our war hero's speech. We will make sure that the particular video crew and and producer that was involved in this incident will have their next assignment will be in Wasilla, Alaska

I would also like to apologize on the behalf of Peggy Noonan for that open mike that picked up her true thoughts about the runner-up for Miss Mooseburger 1992. That obviously was uncalled for and I'm sure we can placate the GOD of the GOP by serving up Keith Olbermann's head on a platter, alongside Amy Goodman's and Rachel Maddow's.

Sorry.

I did not realize that there was a list of qualifications to become president other than being 35,or older, and being a natural born citizen of the republic.

Sarah Palin is as qualified as most any American who meets the qualifications of citizenship and age.

She may not be desirable, but she is qualified.

That said, go after "her positions" on the issues. Her flip-flops. Her dissembling That should be enough to sink the McCain/Palin ticket. Of course, that is if any one is listening anymore.

The Politico "apology" was great!

Of course, the argument or question of whether she is FIT to be Vice President or President is wide open.

Personally, I don't think Senator McCain nor Governor Palin are fit to hold the positions they now hold, let alone the VP spot and the Presidency.

Technically I am "qualified" to run a triathalon in that I have arms, legs, and can breathe but that hardly means that I "should"

John Stewart showed a clip of Sarah herself earlier this year saying that it just really doesn't help the cause of women to whine about media scrutiny... she says they should just work harder to prove themselves....

What the MSM should apologize for is not vetting Obama at all.

In 5 days, they asked Palin more questions about her daughter's pregnancy than they asked Obama about his friendship with William Ayres in 19 months of campaigning.

All major networks sent numerous investigative reporters to Alaska last week to see what they could dig up. They sent NO investigative reporters to Chicago in 19 months, despite numerous smoking guns surrounding Obama.

There's a HUGE difference between a family member and an acquaintance. If there were something more to expose, they would have done it by now, since Obama HAS been under intense scrutiny, especially by the Republican attack machine orchestrated by Rove. Sadly, the Republicans keep trying to make connections when they are not there. And if the issues about Palin's improprieties while governor and mayor were not directly related to her professional competence (not weak associations) and if the facts were not so concrete, then there wouldn't be any story there, either.

More than Ayers questions? You and Palin are using the same drugs. When Obama was, what, 8 years old or younger, Ayers was a radical. Now he's.... Oh....My.... GOD... a professor!!!!! Why would Barack have conversations with a professor????? The media has asked the question. They can ask again and they will get the same answer. The story has no traction or life. It's done. There is no THERE there. Get over it. Nobody cares. On the other hand we have Palin who has been caught in numerous lies after just six days of being introduced. Gee I wonder why the press is so interested? Go figure.
06:13 PM on 09/04/2008
Politico should raise some money and make their own add concerning these questions ,and send Fox Republican news a free copy ,as they run the republicans ads for free .Shame on Sean Hannity and Bill O'Rielly for letting this fish through the net of their attacks imagine the rateings Fox Republican news would get smearing one of their own ....

Those questions are fine. Just ask them of Obama too. Otherwise, Politico is truly sorry; and sexist too.

How about starting with; why is Obama qualified to be president?
06:04 PM on 09/04/2008
I THINK THEY HAVE BEEN ASKING OBAMA EVERYDAY FOR TWO YEARS
06:13 PM on 09/04/2008
U obviously haven't been paying attention over the long campaign trail. Obama has been vetted and his favorability has risen. Palin's national vetting has only just started. So far it has been intersting reading but lacking in anything substantial yet. It has however, uncovered a lot of distortions of her claims verus the facts. Psuedo victim-hood claims won't be tolerated nor sexist remarks. The information will come out, even if it has to be dragged out which won't bode well for McCain and Co if they keep up the evasive tactics they are attempting now.

She has to be vetted to the same standard as Obama was. If she can't handle the heat in the kitchen (as Hillary would say) she should get out.

Mind u to be fair, Fred Thompson did give us this pearl of wisdom, "she has political and life experience"

I would ask how McCain who graduated 5 last in his class of near 800. Was able to become a fighter pilot?

Dare I suggest it was an affirmative daddy admiral nod.

Now, I would call that elitist. Who missed out on this specialised course of training, had worked hard and got overlooked cos someone's daddy pulled a few strings?
05:47 PM on 09/04/2008
The Republicans make a very valid point. The MSM is not to be trusted. We learned this lesson post 9/11 when the MSM kowtowed to the Bush admin and refused to ask the tough questions at the risk of being denounced as traitors, anti-patriots, and Muslim-loving extremists.

So no, I have zero respect for the MSM. They've become just another coporation with their own agenda, an agenda that is beholden to shareholders, with no allegiance whatsoever to the befuddled Americans who are being sold info-tainment in place of news.

Funny though, the RWingers only complain about the MSM when they're called out for their own criminal behavior. That's when they call the MSM "unpatriotic" (with the fine exception of Faux Snooze). Much like Palin's own pastor admonishing his flock to vote for Bush or burn in hell, the Rightwing admonishes the media to worship Neocons as if they are God's one true army.
