CNN:

When you see people at the office using such Internet sites as Facebook and MySpace, you might suspect those workers are slacking off.

But that's not the case at the CIA, the FBI and the National Security Agency, where bosses are encouraging their staff members to use a new social-networking site designed for the super-secret world of spying.

First query on new system:

RacerX: Does anyone know if two dozen Arabs in flight school is suspicious?
Scooby -Doo: At what temperature will steel beams melt?
RoveXXX: Who cares they're all stupid
Texas Ranger: Racer X- Small Planes or Commercial jetliners?
Racer X: The big boys
Texas Ranger: Thats OK. Maybe King Abdullah plans to visit me for more hand holding!

Thats a good idea. I suppose the new system is INVINCABLE, UNHACKABLE, IMPREGNABLE. Maybe we can store our nuclear weapon technology on it, that would make it easier for the State
Department to sell. Pentagon can put out a catalog of Overstocked military equipment.

And let's hope that whichever private company they farm this out to in a no-bid contract isn't just well-connected but truly competent when it comes to data security and not just another bunch of corporate cronies who will lie about the system's vunerabitlies and submit in-house reviews declaring it hacker-proof. Plus, it would be nifty if the top dogs at the agencies involved didn't just take the contractor's word for it that the system works and is as secure as claimed.

It is a good thing if it is used in a way that does not tarnish or undermine “touted” American values. I realize that spy work is secret work and there are things that spies must do in the name of American security that I might find disagreeable but have to be done.

I am always mindful of abuse of power through technology more so than fearful of use of technology to protect America. I applaud the government for using 21st century methods to protect America and I implore them not to bring 20th century corruption and evil (COINTELPRO and the like) into the process. This may fall on deaf ears.
