Sunday night was once again football night on network television as the return of "Sunday Night Football" to NBC this week lifted the network far ahead of its competitors in the ratings.
According to Nielsen's estimates, approximately 16.2 million viewers tuned in to the prime time match-up between the Chicago Bears and Indianapolis Colts. That was shy of the 18.2 million who tuned in to the first night of "Sunday Night Football" last year between the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys, although the figure for last night's audience may increase a bit when final numbers are released tomorrow.
