Barbra Streisand To Sing At $28,500 Per Seat Obama Fundraiser

Singer-actress Barbra Streisand, who originally endorsed Hillary Clinton in the U.S. presidential primary race, has jumped on Barack Obama's bandwagon with both feet to sing for the newly anointed Democratic nominee at a Beverly Hills fund-raiser next week. Organizers say the hurriedly planned Sept. 16 event will probably mark Obama's final stop on the Hollywood political money trail before the November election.

According to political consultant Andy Spahn, a co-host of the fund-raiser, the evening will begin with a dinner for the Illinois senator and about 250 guests at the landmark Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills. Dinner will be followed by a reception in Obama's honor at the main ballroom of the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, featuring a performance by Streisand and others. The ballroom holds a crowd of up to 800 people.

Seats for the dinner and reception together go for a whopping $28,500 per person, but supporters who just want to hear Babs sing for Obama can get in for as little as $2,500 per ticket, Spahn said. At those prices, the two-part event could bring in nearly $9 million, making it the biggest single Democratic fund-raiser for the current election cycle. The money would be divided between Obama's campaign and the Democratic National Committee.

I have a problem with this fund raising (democrat and republican). I thought the maximum was $2,500. I do admire Barack for not taking funds from lobbyists. They need to cut the max down to $500. You nailed that nail on the head. I was a Hillary supporter. I mourned the demise of her campaign. After the concession speech, I switched for Obama right away. Both of them ran a hard campaign. Obama won plain and simple. Sometimes I think PUMA's are simply upset that Obama won period. I am an American first, Liberal second, Democrat third, Republican NEVER. McCain was never an option it is just silly. Having common sense, if in the future there is a great republican candidate of the caliber of Ron Paul and an abysmal democratic candidate, I would do the sensible thing and support the best candidate. But McCain? Man he disgusts me I am horrified why he has this kind of support, but the signs are still encouraging. Obama is still ahead. This Palin thing is like an over inflated stock at some point it might come back crashing. All these lies and half truths coming out could hit them back in the face after the honeymoon is over.

I was going to make a comment on this terrible waste of both effort and resources by Streisand for a presidential candidate in light of the recent human and financial disasters, but life goes on, doesn't it. You can be sure the happy has beens will all show up to support this cause. Some of them are older than McCain and just as confused - but Barbra will sing like she's 20 years old again, and give them all an ear lift in time. Many of these people will make phone calls to the White House on a regular basis and pretend they have all the answers to todays problems facing humanity, and some actually do have answers, and are wiser than the candidate, especially when an inexperinced leader is about to win. It will be worth the five dollar a note performance.
