UPDATE BELOW: PALIN RESPONDS

Actor Matt Damon spoke out on the Republicans' choice of hockey-mom Sarah Palin for VP. Damon compares her rise to a 'really bad Disney movie' and says it's absurd that this woman could become President.

"I think there's a really good chance Sarah Palin could become president, and I think that's a really scary thing... I think the pick was made for political purposes... Do the actuary tables and there's a one out of three chance, if not more, that McCain doesn't survive his first term and it'll be President Palin... It's like a really bad Disney movie. The hockey mom, you know, 'oh, I'm just a hockey mom'... and she's facing down President Putin... It's totally absurd... it's a really terrifying possibility... I need to know if she really think that dinosaurs were here 4,000 years ago. I want to know that, I really do. Because she's gonna have the nuclear codes.
UPDATE: PALIN CAMP RESPONDS:
Maria Comella, a spokeswoman for Palin, called the comments "name-calling."

"It's not surprising that the Barack Obama and his celebrity supporters continue to tear down Governor Palin with little more than blatant name-calling," she said. "It's clear they're threatened by a candidate who actually has a record of achieving reform and change, while Barack Obama just talks about it."

I hope Joe Biden tears this ridiculous fool apart tomorrow.
04:56 PM on 10/08/2008
I guess he didn't LOL. He did more head nodding agreeing with what she was saying. She must have been smarter than he expected.

Right On Mr. Damon!

I'm living through this NIGHTMARE with you.............
04:45 AM on 09/29/2008
I find it extremely interesting and telling that Gov. Palin's spokeswoman, Ms. Comella, did not address the direct concern regarding Palin's religious beliefs.

Why do they refuse to answer the damn question?!
05:59 PM on 09/29/2008
"cause they can't justify it. In all probability, they are laughing at her behind closed doors....

If she really believes this crap, she shouldn't have gotten past high school science.

I am tired of the intellectually incurious/ignorant running our government.

BTW: Palin is the QUEEN of calling names.....I think she likens herself to a middle aged "mean girl."

President Palin, if those 2 words don't scare the cr@p out of you please don't vote.
08:15 PM on 09/28/2008
What do dinosaurs have to do with anything?! It has to do with someone so IGNORANT as to believe that dinosaurs and people co-existed together being President! That is a scary prospect, almost as scary as having someone who believes in witches being our next President.
06:28 PM on 09/28/2008
I approve of Mr Damon's choice to speak out, using the access his fame grants him. It is idiotic to compare his credibility to Palin's, because she is, in effect, running for President, and must be held to a far higher standard. As far as I can tell, such a standard is so far above her that she cannot see it, and she has no idea of seeking to attain it. Mr. Damon only has to deliver pleasing performances, and, when he speaks in proper person, maintain good manners. He does so; he meets the standard proper to his profession. Ms Palin can do the same, though I am not sure she has done the second part I mentioned. But that is a trivial standard for the office to which she aspires.

Matt Damon may just be an actor, but he's a pretty smart guy. I'm pretty sure that he went to Harvard.

Matt Damon seems a far more credible and capable candidate than Sarah Palin.

THe woman is an NIGHTMARE her pastor conducts Witch Hunt in Kenya she thinks Alaska is going to be the refuge after the rapture. I dont give a hoot if she is Eliot Ness. She is INSANE and she has no business being in the White house.

yes, and they did a laying on hands sermon on her to help her with her upcoming gubernatorial race.

this after she claimed to have left the church...

she, and her ridiculous beliefs make my skin C-R-A-W-L.

PROVE IT. You are just a liberal that needs to take your rose colored glasses off. WAKE UP! The liberals are driving this country into the ground. The democrat party has lost it's way.

What do dinosaurs have to do with anything? She has a college degree. She doesn't believe in foisting her religious views onto anyone. She wants to kick out corrupt politicians. Personally, I think we need a lot of new politicians in Washington. The ones that are there seem to have forgotten that they serve the people. The McCain pledge is Reform, Peace, Prosperity. What is there not to like about that pledge? Chicago is full of corruption, what did Obama do about it? Nothing!!
12:02 PM on 09/21/2008
"She has a college degree." I have two degrees. You don't see me on the ticket, do you?

"She doesn't believe in foisting her religious views onto anyone." Except rape victims or people who might read books her invisible friend in the sky doesn't like. You'd be more accurate to say that she doesn't believe in foisting her religious views onto anyone who already agrees with her.

"She wants to kick out corrupt politicians." Then she should have resigned. She would have then been able to remove one corrupt politician.

"Personally, I think we need a lot of new politicians in Washington. The ones that are there seem to have forgotten that they serve the people." They're easy to identify: they have an "R" before their state name.

"The McCain pledge is Reform, Peace, Prosperity." And war is peace, freedom is slavery, and we have always been at war with Eurasia.

Amen to all this. I was so flabergasted someone DEFENDING this so called candidate that I couldn't even form sentences to express my disbelief. Thanks for verbalizing my thoughts.
"She doesn't believe in foisting her religious views onto anyone." WTF? She's foistered them onto her own daughter. Her's a quarter Judy..buy a clue.

I don't think you get THE point.

The woman can't articulate her thoughts. Her credentials in foreign policy based on logistics and then she has the utter audacity to cite that as rationale. This is beyond stupidity.

Mr. Damon is accurate. This woman, if president, will have codes to attack a country. What will be the criteria she uses? She doesn't like the books they read? It is absurd. And McCain made this choice and he is as absurd as his behavior was this past week. I suspend my campaign, I suspend debate,,oops..I change my mind, I'll go after all. McCain should resign.

Palin, in my humble opinion, is eligible for impeachment now. She shouldn't be allowed within 100 miles of DC let alone sit in a big chair in the White House and spout marching orders for our military.
01:48 AM on 09/29/2008
With Karl Rove floating around in the McCain campaign I wonder if this woman is purposedly sounding stupid so people will have the lowest possible expectations from her at her one on one with Biden when she will come out swinging.. I don't know if the people in Alaska are all dumb but I know people up there who are telling me she was almost a vicious debator during her race for governor and easily bested the other side on both style and content. Are we being set up????? I can't believe a college diploma now provides the level of information, discrimination and judgement she shows particularly after 5 years! If it is so then God help us....... or witches, whichever.
04:33 PM on 09/16/2008
you know...it must take so much energy for all of you liberals to be so angry all the time.

Here's something for all of you to think about...
Although I know it must be impossible for all of you to fathom that there are people, especially women, out there that don't share your liberal views...guess what...there are...and by the looks of the polls...lot's of them.

Please don't speak for me. I am a woman and I am NOT pro-choice. I strongly feel that the life of an unborn baby should rate more protection than a polar bear.

I happen to appreciate Sarah Palin's values. I also think that if you all had even the most basic knowledge of college level economics, you would understand that income redistribution is in fact socialism and devastating to our already suffering economy.

Educate yourselves and quit being so freakin angry about everything. Some people still have morals and values...and guess what...we have that right...just like you have the right to not have them.
11:34 AM on 09/17/2008
But you want to take that right away. I do not want to take your rights away. One of the cornerstones of conservative philosophy is for LESS government involvement. Why do the republicans want to force their view of what "morals" are on people. I don't want this. The government should stay out of personal decisions. What gives government the right to dictate what is moral?

I'm not speaking for you. I don't want to take your right away to NOT have an abortion. But you want to take the right away to have an abortion. Do you not see that you want to limit the rights of others, not the other way around?

Liberals are not morally presumptuous and don't dictate what is and isn't moral.

Anyone who disagrees with a Republican and cites reasons and gives evidence why they disagree is labeled as "angry". Or the issue is completely diverted to something completely different such as the polar bear comment. Where on this board is anyone talking about polar bears?
11:46 AM on 09/17/2008
So income redistribution is socialism - I agree. So accepting hundreds of millions in government earmarks (tax payer dollars) and putting it into pet projects is socialism, no?

How about deregulating an industry so they can manipulate their balance sheets any way they want and then cause massive declines in the market once these giants go bust. Then forcing the government (tax payers) to bail them out or suffer an even worse financial crisis. Is this not socialism? Is this not the result of Republican policy that has failed?

You should read some books besides those written by Sean Hannity. Even a good fiction book would be both entertaining and may open up your thought process a bit. Oh, and take some graduate level business classes. Some good case study's may help you sift through the information you read. Mix it up with a few science courses.

I will get you started. This piece is written by a Republican - from their point of view - so it helped me realize some things I was unaware of:

"I need to know if she really think that dinosaurs were here 4,000 years ago. I want to know that, I really do"

Me too.

Will she ever answer this question? No. It will either destroy the "Creationist" support, or show those with higher mental functioning how stupid she is.

And let's not forget that she wants to make abortion illegal even in cases of rape and incest. I wonder how forcing a couple to raise the child of a rapist fits into the Republican "family values" platform.

The bottom line is that simply repeating Palin's stance on the issue is considered smearing. So according to the GOP no one is allowed to make her records as Governor public, and no one is allowed to mention her stance on any of the issues. I guess the GOP and Palin are trying to distance themselves from...themselves.

Oh, and let's not forget that her administration only used personal email addresses for state Business so in the event anyone decided to legally request all emails be reviewed it would blur the line as to whether it is invasion of privacy.

I guess no one in Hollywood should be allowed to state their opinion. Unless it is in favor of the GOP.
06:46 PM on 09/28/2008
Or course she doesn't believe that. 4,000 years - that's absurd. She believes it was 6,000 years ago.
12:32 AM on 09/29/2008
What does "family values" mean besides the fact that it a republican buzz phrase? I would love a description of what exactly constitutes as "family values"...just curious...
05:38 PM on 09/29/2008
Judging by Palin, it might mean having children out of wedlock, and letting them run wild with drugs, drinking, and vandalism.

Judging by McCain, it might mean cheating on your disfigured wife with a beauty queen, and then divorcing her to marry the woman who's 20 years younger than you.

Whatever "family values" are, the Republicans sure aren't practicing it.
06:09 PM on 09/29/2008
Family values, palin style:

Don't talk about pre-marital sex and it won't happen...

Huh? What's that??

Another muscle head. Just do your little movies and don't spend so much time looking in the mirror. Seriously, you are criticizing people who have contributed more than you ever will to society.

I had a choice whether or not to spend money on seeing a Matt Damon movie. As a taxpayer, I had no choice but to pay for all the earmarks Alaska got while Palin was governor. As far as I'm concerned, Palin has been a negative contribution to society--and Damon has never reached into my wallet and said "Gimme!"
12:42 AM on 09/16/2008
Thank you Matt! So glad you spoke out! But I think you were too kind - Palin is no country-bumpkin hockey mom and ignorance of foreign policy and economics is not what scares the SANE people in this country --as much as her pattern of LIES, COERCION, AND COVER-UPS that she's already had as Governor and Mayor. She's playing with the Karl Rove playbook --and she hasn't even arrived in Washington yet!
10:12 PM on 09/15/2008
I really can't believe how many Republican TROLLS hang around Huffington post just to spew their stupidity and racist remarks. Get a life!

Thanks Matt for saying out loud what so many millions of INTELLIGENT people are thinking! Palin makes Bush look like a Nobel laureate. Apparently Palin couldn't remember how to pronounce
"nuclear" correctly --so the McCain team had to spell it "NEW-CLEAR" on the teleprompter during her speech. Brilliant!

Last time I checked, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Fred Thompson, Sonny Bono, and Ronald Reagan were all actual actors, celebrities and Republicans. So I guess they're not credible either, right? Does anyone else find this celebrity attack on Obama more than a little ironic and completely inane?
06:11 PM on 09/29/2008
Thank you for pointing that out, Emily...and the actor thompson, crawled back to DC, didn't he?

I find the whole calling Obama a celebrity ironic-Palin gained initial ground (and thankfully is LOSING IT)-she became the "Paris Hilton" of the RNC..famous for just being there!
