Michigan GOP Using Foreclosures To Block Black Voters

The chairman of the Republican Party in Macomb County Michigan, a key swing county in a key swing state, is planning to use a list of foreclosed homes to block people from voting in the upcoming election as part of the state GOP's effort to challenge some voters on Election Day.

"We will have a list of foreclosed homes and will make sure people aren't voting from those addresses," party chairman James Carabelli told Michigan Messenger in a telephone interview earlier this week. He said the local party wanted to make sure that proper electoral procedures were followed.

This is outrageous. And if it happens in Michigan, it will certainly happen in other states.

The ACLU has been spoken to about this situation. Everyone is involved now. MSNBC has an article on it, only they changed the name from black to poor. It's heating up right now as we speak....

Perhaps Jimmy Carter could reconstitute that group of International observers of elections to observe what goes on at the polls in the states in question. That fool who heads the justice department is so in the pocket of the repugs that his people won't enforce election frauds.

This literally made me want to cry out loud. I haven't lived in Michigan for years, and my brother's foreclosure is fortunately taking place in another state as well (his is due to... hmm... medical expenses.) But seriously. As if losing your house isn't enough, now they could lose their vote too? Now they could lose having a say in how they want to work toward fixing their mess? So much for a democracy.

I have notified ABC News, Washington Post, AP, Baltimore Sun. OHIO DEM Party, FLA DEM Party, and the NAACP. They were all on fire when they recieved the call....They are not getting away with it this year.

So, four of the six members of the "accountability board" can't even vote in WI, what is the hope for the poor, minority and non-republican enclaves?

Targeting a group that you think is likely to be voting for your opponent (I don't have stats to back that up, but my guess is that the majority of folks who are in the process of being foreclosed on would vote democratic) and taking away their vote runs counter to the democratic principles that founded this nation.

BOTH sides do NOT do this... please name ONE case where democrats are trying to TAKE AWAY anyone's vote. Please name ONE!

The republicans do this repeatedly, unfortunately the press never picks it up until after the elections.

It can only be national news if the democrats own just as many forms of media in these RED states to counter punch the lies told in these states. Rush Limb, ann coulter, etc are located in over 500 radio stations and other media product for those who can not read and write like you in all these red states.

Until the democratic party light bulb goes on, we will continue to miss the boats leaving the elections docking stations and also fix the national voting machine with paper trail in all 50+ states. Having in 2008 each states controlling a national president election has Congress looking corrupt in the 21st century.

When a person counterfeits money the full weight of the government and the Secret Service comes down on them like a sledgehammer. Penalties are justifably severe and very harsh.

In the same manner, those who compromise the free vote of America's citizens should be duly punished for damaging it's citizens votes, which are a sacred honor.

The republicans are MASTERS of voter strife. They will do anything and everything possible to prevent blacks from voting this year particularly because they know who they are voting for. We should all check our voter registrations now before it gets too late, just to make sure we are on the voting rolls.
