Below are excerpts from Sarah Palin's interview tonight with ABC's Charlie Gibson. Palin's comments on national security, the Bush Doctrine and considering war with Russia are included. Click here for more excerpts.

Palin on what it would take to invade Russia:

When Gibson said if under the NATO treaty, the United States would have to go to war if Russia again invaded Georgia, Palin responded: "Perhaps so. I mean, that is the agreement when you are a NATO ally, is if another country is attacked, you're going to be expected to be called upon and help.

"And we've got to keep an eye on Russia. For Russia to have exerted such pressure in terms of invading a smaller democratic country, unprovoked, is unacceptable," she told Gibson.

Palin asked about the Bush Doctrine... She doesn't know:

GIBSON: Do you agree with the Bush doctrine? PALIN: In what respect, Charlie? GIBSON: The Bush -- well, what do you -- what do you interpret it to be? PALIN: His world view. GIBSON: No, the Bush doctrine, enunciated September 2002, before the Iraq war. PALIN: I believe that what President Bush has attempted to do is rid this world of Islamic extremism, terrorists who are hell bent on destroying our nation. There have been blunders along the way, though. There have been mistakes made. And with new leadership, and that's the beauty of American elections, of course, and democracy, is with new leadership comes opportunity to do things better. GIBSON: The Bush doctrine, as I understand it, is that we have the right of anticipatory self-defense, that we have the right to a preemptive strike against any other country that we think is going to attack us. Do you agree with that?

PALIN: Charlie, if there is legitimate and enough intelligence that tells us that a strike is imminent against American people, we have every right to defend our country. In fact, the president has the obligation, the duty to defend.

Palin on her National Security Credentials... It's about "energy independence"

GIBSON: But this is not just reforming a government. This is also running a government on the huge international stage in a very dangerous world. When I asked John McCain about your national security credentials, he cited the fact that you have commanded the Alaskan National Guard and that Alaska is close to Russia. Are those sufficient credentials?

PALIN: But it is about reform of government and it's about putting government back on the side of the people, and that has much to do with foreign policy and national security issues Let me speak specifically about a credential that I do bring to this table, Charlie, and that's with the energy independence that I've been working on for these years as the governor of this state that produces nearly 20 percent of the U.S. domestic supply of energy, that I worked on as chairman of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, overseeing the oil and gas development in our state to produce more for the United States.

GIBSON: I know. I'm just saying that national security is a whole lot more than energy.

Definitely some like characteristics, but hasn't anyone noticed who she really looks like - Dick Chaney with lipstick. Can't believe the similarities. Don't we need another one to finish us off...

An interesting article on Salon.com by Glenn Greenwald entitled "Where is the Debate over the Bush Doctrine?".

Interesting read: http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2008/09/14/bush_doctrine/
novmoonstars   04:54 PM on 9/15/2008
Greenwald is clearly biased in favor of Obama Plus he didn't point out that Clinton himself used the Preemption Doctrine in Yugoslavia- unilaterally on his own without the declaration of war. Whereas Bush went through Congress to go inro Iraq.
RIOT   09:55 PM on 10/01/2008
You just compared the Kosovo Conflict, military action by NATO to end a 13-year war between the Serbians and Yugoslavians, to the War in Iraq. Not even close enough to say apples and oranges.

There was no ongoing war in Iraq before World Police showed up, and it was pushed through congress with deceit. Don't you remember that whole WMD thing? They even had a Powell puppet to garner trust in the UN.

Please, spare the web site.

Today! (9-15-08) The economy is tanked! So much for no government oversite! Alan Greenspan has delcared this the worst day in over one hundred years. All the "big gurus" are tell it like it is....too much CEO bonuses, too much greed. Too many henhouses being gouged by the nasty foxes....big financial institutions. Too many risky loans....and on and on. Lehman Bros., innovators in global markets, is bankrupt. I actually think this a GREAT chance for Obama to demonstrate that one of the key tenets of GOP conservatism is smaller government and LESS oversight/regulation of private enterprise. Here is the FREE market, left relatively unchecked by a GOP controlled government during the housing "boom", failing MISERABLY.

Message to voters---> Their way doesn't work and now all of you will have to bail them out while the CEOs of these failed companies get giant golden parachutes.
novmoonstars   04:44 PM on 9/15/2008
O-bah-ma isn't going to do squat
CarolFugett   05:49 PM on 9/15/2008
So you say the man, who said, even today, "The economy is fundamentally good!". So said John McCain. And the Democratic Congress was stonewalled by the Bush Adm. every
time they tried to pass legislation to control these greedy Republican Neocons. I know that Obama will never allow Wall St. to do this again. More controls will be put in place. Controls and oversites that were stopped by the Bush Administration. That's a fact. Your statement is just your opinion, not fact. If you vote in someone who will continue to do business the same failed way. You are going to get the same failed results. That's a fact. If you do what you've always done, you're going to get what you have always gotten.
RIOT   10:11 PM on 10/01/2008
Yeah, and this power couple will accomplish great things.

McCain (Des Moines Register)- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nskNRlx0A7Y

McCain is great in this one because you can hear and see his discomfort. It almost makes you believe he feels bad for lying through his straight talk teeth.

What?
Palin w/ Katie pt 2 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2kjFn4s4sU
WTF?

Sarah, can you repeat "shore up the economy", "bipartisan", and "crisis mode" again? Three times isn't enough. It's reminiscent of the Rove/Bush/Rumsfeld/Wolfowitz playbook, it's almost like hearing the greatest hits from 10 years ago that you can't stand listening to anymore.

Play off of greed, fears, and people's willingness to believe you are for them and not for the "good ol' boys". She's right, she is a maverick, because she's too stupid to be an ordinary politician.
SeekerOz   02:02 PM on 9/15/2008
You know what I would love to see? Obama actually having the courage to go on someone like Hannity or Beck and face some tough questions. Hannity has said many times that there is an open invitation for Obama to so but that has yet to happen. At least Palin (with Gibbs) and McCain (with Baba Wawa) have been interviewed by Liberals.
TheLizardKing   10:39 PM on 9/15/2008
Obama went on Bill O'Reily's show.
ohiodem250   01:27 PM on 9/15/2008
The media should stop interviewing her and talking about her. They should, in fact, never mention her again. And when the Republicans ask why, they should tell them that this is what they requested - that she can just "talk to the voters." The proper deference for this woman would be to defer to someone else, like John McCain, the Republican nominee.

And by the way, where's the proper "respect and deference" for Charlie Gibson? He's definitely made his mistakes but I honestly believe Charlie tries to do what's right. And now the Right is calling him a sexist. Apparently, anyone who doesn't agree with her and want to sleep with her is a misogynist. That's funny!
SeekerOz   02:09 PM on 9/15/2008
But not half as funny as those who dare to disagree with Obama being called racist
Dadeo   12:40 PM on 9/15/2008
Wow, that interview demonstrates she is a puppet and puppets start out as blocks of wood.

The following excerpt is not getting any press, but is highly revealing about the Bush/McCain Administration's policies and Palin's understanding of them:

"GIBSON: Do we have the right to be making cross-border attacks into Pakistan from Afghanistan, with or without the approval of the Pakistani government?

PALIN: Now, as for our right to invade, we're going to work with these countries, building new relationships, working with existing allies, but forging new, also, in order to, Charlie, get to a point in this world where war is not going to be a first option. In fact, war has got to be, a military strike, a last option."

In other words, Palin acknowledged that the current policy is one in which war is the first option!

WHERE IS THE AD?????

Why didn't Gibson address the Alaska Independence Party?
JustDanish   11:29 AM on 9/15/2008
Alaska's share of domestic energy production was 3.5 percent, according to the official figures kept by the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

And if by "supply" Palin meant all the energy consumed in the U.S., and not just produced here, then Alaska's production accounted for only 2.4 percent.

In-depth research, audio clips, videos, excerpts, and links to hundreds of articles, including many from newspapers and TV stations in Alaska. It has rare footage, including her telling the ‘08 convention of the Alaska Independence Party, whose aim is to give Alaska a vote on seceding from the U.S., to “keep up the good work.” The level of research is unparalled.
