I Like ItI Don’t Like It

The Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund has put out an ad on Sarah Palin's promotion of (and personal fondness for) aerial wolf hunting, describing the practice "brutal." The ad features disturbing, graphic footage of a wolf's death. "Do we really want a vice president who champions such savagery?" it concludes. Watch:

shelobo: Thanks for sharing the compelling info on the opposition of Alaskans to aerial wolf hunting. The
governor acts as she is doing this cruel deed in the name of the AK populace. Just another lie.

I thought the reason Palin supported the aerial killing of wolves and wanted polar bears to be removed from the endangered species list is that they are killing the moose Alaskans (Palin) want to hunt. Does anyone know anything about that?

I'm an NRA member and a hunter, but this tragic video brought me to tears. Buzzing a wolf with an airplane until it reaches the point of exhaustion in the dead of winter and then shooting and wounding it repeatedly is simply cruel and incredibly inhumane. Palin and her Alaska cronies should be jailed for their inhumane actions. My lord, is Palin's mind stuck in the 19th century? What's next, witch hunting? Palin as a VP candidate, not for this Republican -- not this election.

You think it looks bad to see a wolf die of lead poisoning, you should see how terrible it is for wolf cubs to die of starvation. Hunter and other so-called sportsman think this is for sport… If there were enough people to hunt them in a “sportsman-like” fashion they would not have to place a bounty on the wolves. Modern hunters are way too soft to do what is takes to hunt wolves, which is why they have such a population problem in the first place, thus the need for airplanes. Or would your prefer an indiscriminate poison? Most modern people cannot appreciate the cruelty of nature; in nature there is no mercy or compassion, only strength and weakness. You weak minded people break out your checkbook and maybe you can help some wolf cubs to die of starvation, instead of mature wolf dying like a magnificent predator doing what they love, running. Its your choice.

I live in North Dakota. I grew up on Minnesota lakes. I am a hunter and I'm an avid fisherman.

"The numbers are too high, but that's why we're here," some joke.

I hunt because I enjoy the meat. I enjoy getting outside, taking in what nature has to offer.

I don't think nature is so helpless that it can't balance its numbers without us. Who are we to say which animals should live and which animals should die? A cub dying in the woods of starvation may seem sad, but it's nature. That death means life for other wolves and animals. That's an ecosystem, not a reason to hunt. Young cubs or "magnificent predators," nature doesn't care. Strong live. Weak die. It'll rebalance itself eventually.

Sport hunting is worthless unless. You don't live off it. At best it's meant to keep numbers manageable. "Manageable," at least here in the real world, means wolf populations that don't eat the farmers chickens, that the wolves don't wander into the "civilized world."

Let me tell you buddy, nature doesn't make the distinction between our world and the wolves' world.

So, maybe instead of killing off the wolves for sport (in order to protect our chickens), we live in better accordance with nature? The reason the wolves eat our chickens is because we put our chickens in the wolves habitat. Or we destroy their habitat for other selfish reasons.

Our strange belief that the world is OURS will be our downfall.

On the contrary, it is the strange belief is that man is unnatural, the very essence of earth worship, that threatens our existence. The earth is just as much ours as it is the wolves. We could stand by and watch wolves starve, or become so desperate that they loose their fear of man and start eating people. I don’t have a problem with wolves dying of starvation or gunfire, but I would prefer the latter since it is both better for the wolf and man. But unlike so many people I put the needs of man above the needs of wolves. I too have hunted my whole life, but that is not what we are talking about. Those wolves were being shot for the same reason I shoot armadillos or coyotes on sight, to reduce the excessive population. It’s not for sport nor is it even enjoyable. I do not think of hunting as a sport, but somehow that seems to justify hunting to city folks. Sports have little utility in the real world; they are games for entertainment and exercise. Hunting is a survival skill that has allowed mankind to survive through good and bad. Civilization is temporary; a meteor, comet, solar storm, ice age, climate change, polar shift, economic panic and hundreds of other catastrophes can occur at any moment and destroy civilization. At that point wolves will again become my enemy and probably dramatically expand their territory into ours.

See the record of Sarah Palin from other Alaskans; her support of ignorant and brutal "hunting" practices, her support for killing business instead of looking business for Alaska.

I just donated another $100 to fund this advertising campaign in wdw101's name.

Just knowing that someone such as wdw101 would spend their time trolling this forum again and again makes you laugh. What a great life wdw101 must have! Enjoy my donation wdw101, it was for you...

Sadly, you could have footage of Sarah Palin clubbing baby seals, and the Republican base would tell us how those seals were a threat to families, or worse, business.
But if this ad can convince anyone of who the real Sarah Palin is, then kudos to the Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund. They are also defending America.

wdw has commented on this thread over 50 times (there were lots more, buI got tired of counting).

Seems to me this video struck a nerve. And if he comments again, I'm donating another $50 to Defenders of Wildlife. I recommend everyone do the same.

This should be a wake up call to McCain's target audience for Palin. She is not the compassionate hockey mom that they try and make her out to be.

Aerial hunting in Alaska is NOT being done because of any threat to people or livestock, rather it is to boost the moose and caribou population for Alaska's big game trophy hunting tourism industry. It is driven by lobbyist $ and funded by taxpayer money.

This ad is running in Ohio as of today and should air nationwide with enough funding. Contribute at the Defenders of Wildlife ACTION fund (specifically for the Palin TV Ad). I did. Here is the link:

http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2008/09/12/enviro-group-launches-attack-ad-against-palin/

This ad now in WSJ... and how cool is that... send it to all \MSM and local news.. this needs to go viral because it shows the mindset of our possible next VP.... I am all for hunting, my family hunts.... but this sort of hunting is barbaric..... it is against the code of honor in hunting... that it is you against the prey....

Yeesh, I am so disgusted with this practice.... This us not a disqualifier.. but it is one more straw on that camel's back that they have to defend.....
The Ethics problems are my biggets one.... How can you have a VP nominee involved in an ethics scandal when you are the party of the most ethics scandals, to include gutting our constitution, running on reform and ethics?
08:17 PM on 09/13/2008
I would vote for almost anyone above bo........I just hate bo's policies......I don't like McCain but he is better than bo........palin at least makes McCain more palatable.......at least she is a conservative

so what you liberals don't get is i am voting for McCain only to vote against bo and the policies that he threatens to inflict on us……

frustrating isn’t it…….to not understand the opposition to your bo

We understand that people don't want to vote for a black man.

What we don't understand is why you want to vote for Bush again...unless you are in the top 2% that get all the tax cuts and are making tons of money while the rest of the country tries to scrape by. That's the part that we "don't get".
11:22 PM on 09/13/2008
Unless you are rich, McCain doesn't give a rat's a$# about you and I have a feeling that you
don't care about people either so do what you want.
07:19 PM on 09/13/2008
As someone else said, this is an ad without lipstick . I just donated to the defenders of wildlife action fund who made this ad. Spread this around. It needs to get on the air in all 50 states. This is not "sport". This is brutality at its worst.
07:38 PM on 09/13/2008
This is not "sport".........i agree it is just "culling" for more wild life to live for the hunt
10:54 PM on 09/13/2008
Aerial Hunting of wolves in Alaska is NOT culling . It is a gutless hobby for trophy lust and has nothing to do with the good of anythng other than what some idiots think looks good on a wall or floor.
Palin's $150 bounty was found to be illegal but that didn't stop her from imposing it. Kind of shoot first and ask questions later....Just like the sports park in her little town...Build it first then let the people find out the land wasn't theirs to build on......
She fits right in with McCain and Bush.....Manifest Destiny and all.
You people are incredibly shallow and stupid.
I quit trying to understand the reasoning behind the actions because there is none...Just pure callous, sensation lust and no thought or moral compass...All justification BS and nothing more...There is no there there

That it shows the savagery of the act is not misplaced in an ad like this. It isn't gratuitous, and the haunting look of the wolf staring up at the helicopter just about broke my heart.

One thing that concerns me though. Please tell me that the airtimes for it are not during the hours when children are usually watching tv? I know they see so much violence on tv anyway, but the parents do have some control over which programs they're watching. Commercials pop on at will and I would hate for some parent's groups to protest the ad.

It's a good ad though. It shows this ugly practice just as it is. No lipstick.
