Mccain View

***UPDATE***
Saturday's New York Times picks up on the critique, made by the hosts of "The View," that McCain seems to have become consumed with distorting the truth. As an article in the paper notes:

In recent days, Mr. McCain has been increasingly called out by news organizations, editorial boards and independent analysts like FactCheck.org. The group, which does not judge whether one candidate is more misleading than another, has cried foul on Mr. McCain more than twice as often since the start of the political conventions as it has on Mr. Obama.[...]

Mr. McCain came into the race promoting himself as a truth teller and has long publicly deplored the kinds of negative tactics that helped sink his candidacy in the Republican primaries in 2000. But his strategy now reflects a calculation advisers made this summer -- over the strenuous objections of some longtime hands who helped him build his "Straight Talk" image -- to shift the campaign more toward disqualifying Mr. Obama in the eyes of voters.

And as MSNBC noted on Friday, the notion that McCain has cease to conduct an honest campaign worthy of his "straight talk" slogan, has taken hold in the media:

If there's a common theme today, it's the press taking McCain's campaign to task for running a series of ads distorting Obama's record and positions.

Read their roundup of articles on the topic here.

The ladies of "The View" confronted John McCain today for lying in his recent attack ads, pressed him on abortion and questioned his choice of Sarah Palin.

In arguably his toughest interview yet, co-host Joy Behar asked McCain, "There are ads running from your campaign... Now we know that those two ads are untrue, they are lies. And yet, you at the end of it say you approve these messages. Do you really approve these?"

Barbara Walters then threw in her condemnation, telling McCain: "You, yourself, said the same thing about putting lipstick on a pig..."

Watch McCain try and explain the lies:

McCain was also pushed on his stance on abortion, that Roe v. Wade should be overturned. Noting his pledge to nominate justices who "strictly interpret the constitution," Whoopi asked if that meant she'd be returned to slavery:

Whoopi also pushed McCain on the separation of church and state, saying that if he believes in it, "did it not give [him] a moment of pause" to choose Sarah Palin as his running mate. He responded in part, "God has a plan for the world and that we should do what we can to lead as good a lives as we can...":

McCain was asked how Palin will "reform" Washington and the government. Barbara Walters continually pushed on just who and what she was going to reform. His answer, which he was forced to elaborate on, was "all of Washington":

McCain also claimed that Palin has never asked for money for pet projects as Alaska governor -- when in fact she has sought nearly $200 million in earmarks this year.

For the 3rd and 4th segments, he was joined by wife Cindy McCain, for whom co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck hosted a luncheon at last week's RNC. After a hard first few segments, talk got easy with Cindy and turned to kids and humanitarian issues.

He is sounding more and more like Bush. Not just his idea, but the tone of his voice too.

WAL-MART TO CARRY CINDY MCCAIN FASHION LINE

Oh! Cindy would be such a wonderful first lady. She could teach all of us poor women fashion. Maybe Wal-Mart will start caring a Cindy McCain line of clothing. I sure hope so because I want to look just like Cindy McCain! Maybe my employer will let me wear high heels and a white suit to the factory where I work. ; )

They will not print my comments because I critisized THE VIEW and the DISRESPECTFUL way they handled McCain! More BROWN SHIRT tactics by crazy Obama nuts!

Brilliant ECONDIT. Brownshirts were National Socialists (Nazis). Nazism is an extreme form of Nationalism which is the EXTREME RIGHT side of the political scale. Communism being the FAR LEFT on the political scale. Republicans are closer, politically, to Nazis and brownshirts than the Democrats. Interesting, huh?

McCain is a joke, he is phoney and has no ideas. Reform??? He and Palin wil be as bad if not worse than Bush.

From our friends at CBS News dateline Sept 15, 2008

The Sarah Palin Phenomenon Is Doomed
MarketWatch Columnist Jon Friedman Warns The Media Live To Build You Up, Then Knock You Down

"The Sarah Palin Phenomenon is doomed.

But it's not because of her lack of foreign policy experience or her deer-in-the-headlights look during part of her interview last week with ABC's Charles Gibson.

The primary reason why the Palin bubble will burst is that the media will decide that they are bored with her. They'll need to move to shine a light on a fresh issue or individual."

Just wondering, but did I miss the part where the "media" built up Sarah Palin? Jon Friedman at CBS is utterly clueless. Big surprise coming from the network of Dan Rather.

When McCain was pushed on specific plans for reform, he still was vague and says he has succeeded in some reform. I give him credit, he has distracted 6-7 major lobbyists from congress. He has them running his campaign!

This has been dogging me for some time; when did the Republicans start referring to their opposition as the "Democrat" Party. It's constantly repeated as if they'd just swallowed a shot of bitters & lemon. McCain parrots it in this chat with the ladies.

All members of the DEMOCRATIC Party should retaliate and start referring to the GOP as the REPUBLIC Party and see how long it takes them to cry foul.

Granted, it's a minor point at this pivotal point in history, but it's either GOP syllabic laziness or another subtle way to denigrate the opposition. I'd wager on the latter...

And did anybody notice McCain's stupid facial expression in response to Joy Behar's question (caught in the picture along with this article)?

Very presidential. The guy may be 72 years old but he still has the mentality/temperament of a little boy.

The economy in this country is in trouble because of greed. Many, Many people have tried to live beyond their means and the greedy companies who should have said "NO" did not because of their greed. We have to have a 600,000 house when a 300,000 would be fine.

Everything has to eventually correct itself and that is what is happening in our economy. It is unfair to blame one person for everything that is going on. It is funny how everyone blames Bush, who deserves his share of the falt, but does not speak to the blame of the Democratically controlled Congress or the corporate greed. Both of the latter existed before Bush.

I guess it is not surprising though considering the trend in this country is to whine and refuse to take responsibilty for their own actions but to take the victim stance and want someone fix all their problems.

Dems have controlled congress since 2007, Bush & GOP have run this country for almost 8 years.

I agree with you - TAKE RESPONSIBILITY

The failures of Republican Policies and Political agendas that pit rich against poor, religions against eachother and celebrate ignorance and lack of ethics and morals.

I tell you one thing that did NOT exist before Bush: An immoral, irresponsible, and poorly executed war, begun under false pretenses, that spends billions of our tax dollars and brings death and suffering to millions of people who never wished us harm.

As commander-in-chief, Bush is DIRECTLY responsible for this horror. And besides fanning the flames of global terrorism and worsening America's standing among nations, it has a tremendous negative impact on the U.S economy - both directly and indirectly.

I don't live in a $600,000 home. I don't live beyond my means. But I DID have to live with Bush as President, and I DON'T want to live with his legacy any longer than neccessary.

The only reason Liberals are opposed to Sarah Palin is because they do not want the first female Vice President to be a Republican. It's turning them all into hate mongers.

Also, the lipstick on a pig remark was not calling Palin a pig. However, there was a subtle sarcastic tone when Obama said it. His body language and mannerism's show he was doing it to make fun of her "lipstick" joke in her speech. So yes, the comment was in reference to her but he was not calling her a pig.

Um, actually most liberals do not like Sarah Palin because she is an extremely conservative Christian who doesn't even recognize any sect of Christianity besides her own. She called herself "the first Christian mayor" when in fact there had been plenty of Christian mayors in her town...but none belonging to HER sect of Christianity, so aparently they don't count. She believes the Iraq war was ordained by God and that the Bible is literally true. She believes in banning books that do not jive with her Christian teachings. She does not believe in sex education. She is against abortion (for the record before you go off on a tangent I am actually pro-life myself, but I am explaining why MOST liberals do not like her).

I grew up in the north where people's religion was their own business. I lived down south for 5 years and was subjected to MANY people like Palin. These people who wanted Harry Potter banned because it has witchcraft. These people who protested in front of my Catholic Church every week and screamed at us that we were 'phony idolator Christians." Who protested the science department at my college because it teaches science! Who held signs when Iraq started that said "KILL EM ALL LET GOD SORT EM OUT"

I am terrified of someone who thinks that ALL MEN should have to follow the rules of THEIR religion.

So your basing your opinion of her faith by something you saw, read or heard. Honestly, how can you attack someones personal beliefs when you don't even know that person. Although I am not a religious person, I resent your stereotypical view of the religious south. If I were to base my opinion of your religious beliefs on your statment above, I would say you were anti-Christian. However, that would be summing up your entire view of Christianity from two paragraphs. Now that wouldn't be fair, would it?

Seriously that was an extremely stupid comment. Sarah Palin is the quintessential neo conservative. Of COURSE the liberal left is going to oppose her. She is diametrically opposed to pretty much every liberal stance on everything, but in your glorious wisdom you decide that nope, they don't like her because they're jealous a woman got on the Repub ticket. If that's all the liberals cared about Hilary would be the nominee.

That's like saying Republicans ONLY don't want Obama because he's black, completely ignoring that hey, Obama is a LEFTIST so it kinda makes sense that a right winger wouldn't want to vote for someone who believes the opposite of everything they believe.

Ully, is English your second language? I ask with great respect for I know how difficult it is to express strong political thoughts in another language. I appreciate you joining in the process.

With this in mind, we need to remember that McCain is running for President not his wife.

It is good to watch the shows, read the articles, do the research - to understand the subject and the debate strengthening your English language and writing skills. Keep working on them, this is what America is about and why you're here, yes?

Freedom has its responsibilities and work - it is not to be taken for granted.
