Swift Boat Alumns Ready 11th-Hour TV Campaign Against Obama

A new group financed by a Texas billionaire and organized by some of the same political operatives and donors behind the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth campaign against Sen. John F. Kerry in 2004 plans to begin running television ads attacking Barack Obama, a signal that independent groups may play a larger role than anticipated in the closing days of the presidential race.

The American Issues Project has amassed a multimillion-dollar fund, and the group is putting the final touches on an eleventh-hour campaign targeting the Democratic presidential nominee, sources said.

I'm a veteran but realize the military just isn't for everybody. However, I don't believe any of these people who received deferments and/or were excused for other ridiculous reasons is justifiable.

Call Obama what you want, his life is out there in his bio. There's nothing more for the man to hide. He was named after his absent Muslim father; his friends called him Barry; his stepfather signed him up at school using his surname, Soetoro, in Indonesia (Obama was 6 yrs old); he admitted to using drugs in college; he met Ayers when he was already a distinguised university professor; he believed in Rev. Wright until Wright destroyed their friendship (I know someone who's visited the church and Wright is quirky but doesn't preach hate). Anything else is a lie and made up.

The Truth in Advertising Act applies to all advertising EXCEPT for political ads. Wouldn't you think that truth in politics should be enforced above all else? Take a look at how stringent the FCC is against regular advertising:
