Palin

The AP reports:

About two hours after Palin's speech Saturday, hundreds of people protesting the policies of Palin lined a busy Anchorage street, waving signs and chanting "Obama!"

In addition to Obama supporters, the protesters included those who don't agree with Palin's positions against abortion, her support for the Iraq war and other issues. One woman held a sign that read, "I'm Bail'in on Palin!" Another said, "Pro Woman, Anti-Palin." Another read, "What About Healthcare?"

"We're not alone. A lot of people are worried about the nomination of Sarah Palin," said rally organizer Angie Doroff, 46, as cars drove by honking their horns in support.

A Daily Kos diarist has pictures and more information on the women who organized the rally.

Despite overcast skies and a forecast for rain, there was a rally here today. Oh man, was there! In fact, it was by most accounts the largest protest rally in the history of Alaska. The Anchorage Daily News wrote that the rally drew an "estimated" 1500 people. Let me be clear: the organizers used a hand-clicker and counted at least 1,483 Alaskans, mostly women, who showed up to say that Sarah Palin does not speak for them.

And here's video (scroll down for a slideshow):

That was awesome. All five thousand people living in Anchorage showed up to protest! I'm having a hard time believing that neo-con talking point that Gov.Palin is the most liked Governor in America. Guess that makes me a sexist! And I'm a democrat go figure.

This makes me so, so, so happy to see. Yay Alaska!

Go Girls! There are a lot of qualified women that could have been on McCain's ticket, but he went for "ratings" over experience.

Make him pay the price!

Gulf War Vets for Obama!

Just because we drill oil in America -- it doesn't magically go to our pumps. It's drilled by international oil companies (with tax payer subsidizes) and then it's sold BACK to us on the WORLD MARKET -- and the same price we pay for oil drilled ANYWHERE ELSE in the world! So, we get to pay for it TWICE -- and with NO DISCOUNT for having let them tear up Alaska and poison our oceans to drill for it. Oh, yeah. We get to pay for that clean up too! So, really it's LESS expensive to buy our oil from other countries!

Oh but... didn't you know that the fish love oil pipes?? I still can not get over that comment. Imagine him as president?

Everything you mention was right on and I wish more people would realize this.

How can you tell when a Republican is lying?
Check to see if their lips are moving.
(And the lipstick just makes it easier to tell.)

WOw, that must have exhausted even a mental giant such as yourself.

STOP THE REPUB-LIE-CANS!

This was definitely expected. I still wonder what Palin's reaction was to this Saturday Night Live skit. http://specialreport.com/tina-fey-as-sarah-palin-nbc-snl-palin-video/

You people seem to forget that one, you are a minority and two, Obama's people put them up to it.
This is the man you feel should be president?
I appreciate the good laugh!

I have values. I am proud to have given birth to my children.

Read my LIPSTICK: VOTE MCCAIN & PALIN !!!!!

YOu go ahead and triumph for your 5 electoral votes in Alaska, the new Theocracy. Do you think most children were hatched? Is that what they teach in creationism? Or is it abstinence works unless you're the 17 year old daughter of the governor, and then you just get prego. Who's minding the store? Track was having some substance abuse problems and a little issue with partying. Not uncommon for a 19 year old....These issues are what make Sarah Palin very common....common as the Red state statistics of higher teen pregnancy rates, higher children born out of wedlock, higher substance abuse issues, lower levels of completed education, higher domestic violence. Why isn't track going to college, and why isn't Bristol looking forward to a brighter future/

Uuuhhhh......I think those people ARE "Obama's people." Maybe they weren't before Palin was chosen but they sure are now.

You know, I'm very please to hear that you are "proud" to have given birth to your children. Something just about any cow on the planet could probably say. But you and Palin have no right to force any woman to give birth - especially a raped woman.
01:58 PM on 09/16/2008
Exactly -- ahhhh . . . yeah . . . they're for Obama. Who else would be protesting Palin? Somehow it doesn't count unless it's completely unrelated to the presidential campaign? Ah, we were planning this protest for months before she was selected as McCain's VP choice. Huh??
02:06 PM on 09/16/2008
And before Palin forces these women who have been raped, to have the baby, she'll make them pay for their rape kits. How inhumane & disgusting.
12:44 PM on 09/16/2008
It's refreshing to know that the rest of the women of Alaska have some good sense.

There must be smart people all over the US who want to protest Palin ?? If you do then go to this link and let's get organized!!! Support Obama/Biden first if they are in your area but if by chance McCain/Palin are in your area then report it here:

http://hubpages.com/hub/Where-to-Protest-Palin

Where's Waldo? Where's Palin? Protest and challenge them whereever they may be! Add to the blog and organize a protest in your area! If you are a member of an organization that stands against McCain/Palin policies spread the link and post it to MySpace and Facebook too! If they are coming to your area try to post the link on the democratic party website in your state and any place else. Protesting is important because it helps to get the truth out there. There is more than one side and the media is forced to report the truth.
01:52 PM on 09/16/2008
Nah. Stop drawing attention to her. Needs to be focused on McCain, his dis-honor and the economy.

You have to question the polls that say she has 80% approval rating in Alaska
01:57 PM on 09/16/2008
Old polls, right now she's dropping fast & less than 40% IIRC.

Reason lives in Alaska!!! They recognize when someone is not for women's rights. The woman is an inexperienced, same old political empty skirt, an empty slate to be used by the neocons. If you've got a great life and think the country's in fine shape, by all means, vote for another 4 years of the same. But, if you think that's the case, wait until you come off the drugs before you vote.
10:33 AM on 09/16/2008
So why is it that this does not get any traction in the mainstream media? I've seen nothing about any protests against Palin - - - the msm should be all over this, especially given this is the largest in Alaskan history!

They're too busy telling us how "folksy" she is -- and how elistist Biden's french cuffs are. Oh, I mean "freedom" cuffs.
