McCain's Cousin: John "Replaced by A Desperate Version Of Himself"

St. Petersburg Times:

Recently, my father gave me an envelope full of press clippings which chronicle the history of a very notable part of our family. Most of the articles come from the Florida Times-Union, a Jacksonville-based paper he read during the '60s and '70s when he taught at Lake City Community College. They detail the years in which my cousin, then-Lt. Cmdr. John S. McCain, was imprisoned in North Vietnam.

John and I are related through our grandmothers. Katherine Vaulx McCain and Huetta Vaulx Boles, both of Fayetteville, Ark., were sisters. My side of the Vaulx family represents a long line of Democrats, but it is with no small amount of pride that we've followed the life and career of now-Sen. John McCain.

So, where is the straight-talking, commonsense John McCain of 2000? I'm afraid he is long gone, replaced by a desperate version of himself who seems to contradict nearly everything he once stood for.

I'm new here, but has anyone brought up the fact that John McCain crashed his primary campaign when other candidates with less notoriety were able to stay afloat? It was said that he was too far left for the comfort of most republicans anyway. Then....all of a sudden he was back....and the candidate of choice for them. You have to wonder...what really happened? Who rescued him? Who is he beholding to?

If he couldn't even manage a campaign effeciently....how could he possibly run our country?

It is clear that he doesn't speak his own mind, I would like to know who would really be running our country if he is elected. Who is it that his supporters are really voting for? It is surely the same people who told him to select Sarah Palin. Oil Companies?­??.....Bus­h backers???

I just read them too! I couldn't believe how cruel they were and couldn't help leaving a comment faulting their pure ignorance & lack of dignity and values. It may take up to 24 hours to post. I've also listened to the horrible right wing threats the Alaskan women received after they planned a rally opposing Sarah Palin for VP. Do these people have no soul? I really question if these people are for real because they really don't seem human.

How can anybody watch this video and not be scared of what would happen to this world, their lives and families if MCain/Palin were elected?

I wish McCain could step outside of himself and see the hole he's digging for himself. There were 600 POW's. John was one of them. Early release from Hanoi involved signing a "confession". Some POW's signed the "confession" and were released while others didn't and stayed. Being a son and grandson of Navy Admirals, this wasn't an option for macane. If he would have signed, his life would have been worse than prison, up until the end. While that order of release may be true, it isn't germaine to the issue(just lucky or made up about the guy having a latino name). The crux of his time in capture was not honor but a lack of options. He himself refers to his honor by saying "read my book", written at a time when he may still have had some honor, he obviously has none now. He is a last shot Napoleon. He cares little about anything other than having his face on one of those Presidential plates that you find on the wall of elderly people. A failed student, a failed pilot, a failed husband, a failed father wants an immortal legacy.
