I Like ItI Don’t Like It

John McCain returned to the campaign trail on Monday, only this time without his popular vice presidential pick, Sarah Palin. The results were somewhat less than enthusiastic. As reported by MSNBC's First Read, the Republican presidential nominee addressed a crowd of roughly 3,000 people in a stadium that seats 16,000.

The pictures, however, tell many more words. The Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena where McCain spoke had large swaths of sections entirely empty, an American flag draped over the seats.

Palin has helped McCain make up much of this enthusiasm gap he had with Barack Obama - though, as as Bloomberg News reported on Sunday, the campaign has been exaggerating its crowd numbers. And it remains to be seen how many people the Alaska Governor attracted at her own stop today in Colorado. But McCain's low attendance figures on Monday may, in the end, persuade his campaign to plan more joint appearances going forward, a small but potentially important development.

UPDATE: Jonathan Martin at Politico reports that Palin drew approximately twice as many people as McCain this morning. All of which, the McCain campaign says, is no big deal -- taunting a bit by pointing to the polls.

"Scoreboard check," said McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds. "They're hurting in Florida - our attendance on a Monday morning is better off than Barack Obama's empty rhetoric and absent record - that won't deliver change."

Compare and contrast right here in the deep south - Jacksonville, Florida - McCain barely pulled in 3,000 people last week. This week, I witnessed a capacity crowd of 10,000 at Jacksonville's Metropolitan Park who came to see Barack Obama. On top of the 10,000 in the park, another 8,000 people were outside the gates who wanted to get in. Amazing and better than any poll at forecasting the future!

One picture is worth a thousand words. Several pictures are worth several thousand words. May the numbers who turn out to hear McCain and Palin keep dwindling. [spoiled for choice with your new system. What the?]

Are you that ignorant? Of course McCain is going to have smaller numbers, because his fans are hardworking Americans who don't have leisurely time to waste, unlike all the unemployed loser welfare receiving people who of course are going to go see their messiah and meal ticket.

Republicans LIED about the number of people at the previous rallies with Palin. I can't believe anything they say.... Another Republican LIE is brewing about women wanting to boycott Oprah's show because Palin can't appear until after the election ... her PR must be hurting. Republicans should know by now that their words are meaningless to us. Palin should cooperate with the legislative inquiry into her abuse of power in Alaska.

No pity please. Cant believe there was a recording on my answering
machine Sunday Night telling me to call to get a free ticket to see McCain at
a rally because of such a overwhelming response that the rally was being moved to the Arena. I had one question. Who is going to be there? I was right. Palin or no Palin,
McCain will NOT carry Jacksonville, and I don't think he will carry the
state of Florida. The truth about the McCain, has well......caught
up with him. I dont believe the polls either. No one I know in Florida is
voting for him. Period - Republican or Democrat.

pollyrobin--I hope you're right...the polls in Florida have McCain up by 5, I believe...It's impossible to understand how people can believe someone who has been proven to be lying to them...and they keep smiling and supporting him (and his VP pick).

Now that Robert Kennedy Jr. has exposed Palin as using Pegler's words in her acceptance speech, how is McCain going to distance himself from that with her by his side?!

For heaven's sake, Pegler sounded the call to kill Robert Kennedy!

How in the world can McCain have approved this?!
No,-incompetent. Yes- Pure Evil

Palin's a freak show. After you've seen her act a few times, it gets old and tired...just like McCain. Expect even lower turnouts as her tax records come out, investigations continue, her husband's e-mails are released and she's forced to talk more to the media.

I wish a reporter would ask McCain, "How does it feel to be the first presidential nominee to be overshadowed by their VP choice?"

It must be very sad for Mc to be overshadow by an incompetent, airhead. Soon she'll be on top of the ticket. Time and time again he loses to Neocons, no wonder he tries so hard to imitate them.

I think I understand why you say that. I guess you and your sources haven't recognized the Palin/McCain/Bush/Rove/Republican LIES yet. They tried to destroy Democracy from the very beginning with LIES about Obama's name, faith and patriotism. Barack means "blessed." King Hussein of Jordan was of our strongest allies. I sincerely believe that God is watching, and He leads me to trust Obama/Biden. PEACE
