CBS: Why The Sarah Palin Phenomenon Is Doomed

The Sarah Palin Phenomenon is doomed.

But it's not because of her lack of foreign policy experience or her deer-in-the-headlights look during part of her interview last week with ABC's Charles Gibson.

The primary reason why the Palin bubble will burst is that the media will decide that they are bored with her. They'll need to move to shine a light on a fresh issue or individual.

This is how the world works in the age of 24/7 news cycles. Whether the subject is Britney Spears, Michael Jordan or Sarah Palin, we inevitably raise stars to mythic levels, out of all reasonable proportions. Then we knock them down. (Look out, Michael Phelps. Your time is coming, too.)

I really hope the debates finally show the American people how little comprehension Palin has on national economic and foreign policy issues. Seeing Russia and running Alaska don't count as real experience.

Hummmm, does this apply to Mr. Obama as well?
I can't think of anyone in recent history that has been built up to more "mythic levels" than he has been.
Time will tell if the alphabet network news reporters are equal opportunity balloon poppers.
Somehow I think not.

I think the media spotlight will be off of Senator Obama in about eight years. You know. At the end of his second term.

Ever wonder where Palin's priorities are? After knowing that she was carrying a special needs child she put the baby's life in danger by the two plane trips for campaign stops. Special needs babies need bonding with parent to thrive and has this little guy had more than a few days in his life with his mom? Who the hell is taking care of this child? It is like a lion having a cub and then abandoning it to another lion to raise. Wouldn't happen in real life in the jungle but I guess the public finds this a normal reaction in the US.

Very few mothers would risk traveling away from home that late in pregnancy, and virtually none would take multiple long-haul flights to return home while dangerously leaking fluid. I continue to believe we are being lied to about the parentage of this mathematically monikered child, but in either event Palin's ambitions far exceed her judgment.

Do you two realize how sexest you sound?
I thought liberal women were all about equality, or does that only apply to women on the left of the political isle?

How come everyone is missing this great story except the UK?

********************** This is a MUST READ **********************

All you Palin McCain supporters - you better read this. Seems Sarah had a little help in run for governor. A Kenyan witch doctor came to her church and laid hands on her! She is a religious whacko.. Here is the link to the story and a bit of it..!

http://timesonline.typepad.com/uselections/2008/09/palin-linked-el.html

Palin linked electoral success to prayer of Kenyan witchhunter The pastor whose prayer Sarah Palin says helped her to become governor of Alaska founded his ministry with a witchhunt against a Kenyan woman who he accused of causing car accidents through demonic spells. At a speech at the Wasilla Assembly of God on June 8 this year, Mrs Palin described how Thomas Muthee had laid his hands on her when he visited the church as a guest preacher in late 2005, prior to her successful gubernatorial bid. In video footage of the speech, she is seen saying: I was mayor and Pastor Muthee was here and he was praying over me.

Republican party is eating their own, very famous die hard right wing republican op ed writers, are turning on the McCain/Palin ticket, they can see the writing on the wall, McCain has never been a darling of his party, he is a admitted adulteress whom abandoned his 1st wife whom faithfully waited on him while he was in a vietnamese prison camp, not only abandoned and cheated on her but did so while she was ill and in hospital, guess his marital vows do not qualify as honor, in sickness an health get ignored in all the hero worship he gets for his military career, or his choosing a rich heiress over his 1st wife, does not fit the for richer or poorer, guess he chose the richer harlot, which is any woman is whom takes another womans husband, you cannot put lipstick on that pig and call it anything but a pig! To see his second wife the harlot he chose over his marital vows get before the nation and talk about morality, honor, decency is almost sickening for anyone who does read ones bible!

Phallun was very good at reading speeches written for cheney. That's all. She has become boring on her drive to be "transparent and accountable". She's a barbie doll. She can only read.

Well it's gonna be really scary..somebody's basing its foreign policy knowledge on the fact she is just a neighbour of Russia is definitely stupid...oh i forgot, some people voted for Bush...twice...
BTW why can't she accept for other women what she allowed to her daughter?
You know what, finally i think i would be glad to see her as president and ..;enjoy the mess...just like Bush did!!!!!!

In a few years, the "Drilla from Wasilla" will be an answer to a trivia question.

I was thinking something similar the other day--a la "Jeopardy":

"The most unqualified Vice-Presidential candidate ever in U.S. history"

"Who was Sarah Palin?"

McCain is not going to lose because of Palin. If he loses it will be because of the economy. And only if democrats can create a narrative around this that will resonate with the crowd that does not think much. People who like Palin don't know of Bush doctrine and can't pinpoint Yemen on the map either. McCain ought to suffer for picking such a lightweight for the VP position but he simply won't.

I disagree.
If McCain loses, it will be from voter recognition of his long string of bad judgment choices...and Palin is the latest.

She figures prominently in this election.

Those who think otherwise are overestimating the intelligence of America's single (or very few) issue voters.

I personally think McCain ought to lose because he is a republican and republicans should not even be in the game this year after their disastrous rule. But the fact is Americans are divided into two large ideological groups with a swing block in the middle. Most of the people are in the two large groups already. The fight is really for the "swinging" middle. The majority of these people are influenced more by emotion than reason. It is for this reason that I say Palin is not a large issue. Most who dislike her are already in the Obama camp, and the base that like her is already republican. The swing voters are leaning more toward the social conservatism that Palin represents. Most of them are as ignorant as she is and they are unlikely to hold that against her. She is not likely to be a factor in McCain's loss. The souring economy is likely to be the crucial issue unless there is like an October surprise like Bush getting Bin Laden. In that case the democrats would be toast because the swing vote likes that kind of news.

If that's the case, then why didn't he pick Romney if he was so vulnerable with the economy? It was his call, or was it. Or was it because he has always thought the economy was fundamentally sound!!!

The title of this article - "CBS: The Sarah Palin Phenomenon is doomed" is at best misleading. More accurately, it's a total distortion. If you watch the accompanying video to the "article", not once does the reporter, Chip Reid, say that "The Sarah Palin Phenomenon is Doomed", he doesn't even come close to implying it. CBS never made the claim - not in this video, anyway. Bad "journalism" here.

The Sarah Palin phenomenon is doomed because she is a fraud. Like many in her party, they feel they have a license to say and do anything irrespective of the ethics of the situation. She lies - repeatedly -- even after her original lies have been openly and factually exposed as such. Her candidacy is the Bridge to Nowhere and America can ill afford another Bush-like detour.

Both major candidates and both major parties have been taking contributions from the financial industry for years.

The difference between McCain and Obama -- Obama states the specific solution that these large contributors may not want to hear, i.e. get serious abouot oversight. Set up the oversight system that's been stuck in Congress for a decade, for starters.

McCain simply hurls blame at the "fat cats on Wall Street" and everyone knows this tactic is a ruse.

Another thing to point out is that McCain's campaign is RUN by lobbyists, while Obama's is not. And that's aside from the point that Obama has raised nearly 500 million dollars...and he's complaining about $126K???? That's like 0.025%! Give me a break!

Why would Obama need to talk about it when both Obama and McCain received money? You guys are sounding desperate. How about growing a pair and facing the fact that your tricks won't work this time. Stick a fork in your party, pal.

Righto urbanliterati. Politicians taking money is like mosquitoes sucking blood, it's their nature. In that respect we're on a level playing field here. I'm not any more interested in Obama's relationship with Rezko as I am with McCain's relationship with Charles Keating, of the Savings & Loan debacle of the 80's, even though it's a lot more pertinent in our times than what Obama may or may not have done. I mean after the past eight years of over the top thievery the Republicans pulling their "The Democrats do it too!" playground-level mantra is like Moe accusing Larry of being a stooge. Moe's the king stooge and the Republicans are the the king thieves because during two wars they just couldn't stop their sticky little fingers from grabbing whatever they could. Patriotism indeed! Support the troops you bet! The chutzpah of these mamzers!
